I saw this! We were out on the west side of the lake to watch the meteor shower that night (unrelated to this meteor, I've been told) and we were about to pack up since we weren't seeing much. I was looking down at the ground and then all of a sudden it was like it was noon. I looked up and I could see the whole valley and all the mountains lit up like day time. It was confusing for a second until we noticed where the light was coming from and saw the meteor streak over us and out to the desert.

I saw something like this on August 14, 2011 that was like a neon green then white when it got over head as it gone threw the clouds, I live in Virginia. I don't know if it was a metor, astroid coming close to earth or if it's a possible UFO streaking across the night sky. I know UFO's seam far fetched but I find it hard to beleave that we're alone in the universe so to me what this could have been is a UFO move quickly and not a metor, it's possible, we don't yet know what out there in space.

@anthemsguy2008 Whilst I very much doubt we are alone the universe is SOOOOO vast that the nearest exo planet capabile of sustaining life is thousands of lightyears away. We have nothing that travels at the speed of light. nothing close so how ould they travel here? There aren't ufo's ffs.

@MrNarcko dude, learn your terms, it's not an asteroid, just like lava isn't magma, as soon as an object enters the earth's atmosphere it changes names... to meteor and meteorite. I believe a meteorite is what we call it when it survives the fall and reaches the ground, when it doesn't it's called a meteor (shooting star) but the definition of a shooting star is more those little tiny sweeps you sometimes see at night when they just scamp the atmosphere.

@rotas75 No, the technical term would be a meteor, or to be even more precise a bolide due to its apparent magnitude. If they called it an asteroid in the news they got their technical terms mixed up.

I remember I was in my room doing homework when all of the sudden my whole room lit up like it was day time, I thought a cop was spot lighting my room at first but then it just disappeared. I live about 70 miles away from where they say it hit and I felt it shake the house when it did land, windows rattled and everything..its pretty crazy something the size of a bowling ball can do that.
