Too bad most monolingual Engl. speaking Canadians multilingualism as a threat or competition - in Europe, we see it as an advantage and an additional ability to communicate, and we highly value that. All European immigrants I know in Canada put their children in French schools so they can get fully bilingual, thinking of it as an advantage. I think we've learnt our lessons when it comes to culture :-)

Well, JMartyson, I live in Western Canada :-) and am seeing here quite a different story from what you're trying to portrait. Somewhat funny! ;-) I can easily communicate in 5 languages and i am proud of that (most Europeans do, it's really not a big deal for us). Btw., I was shocked to feel/see/hear so much hatred here in Engl. speaking Canada towards the French and the French lnaguage.
