I just find it interesting that Alan is out in the audience mixing the show and not on stage. Of course it makes perfect sense, but just a novel thing to see at a live show. I know Alan loves to mix live shows, I had the opportunity to sit down at dinner with him here in NY, and discuss this. Being a live engineer myself it was intriguing to seen him doing this at his own show Of course, it was the real APP so it makes sense. Wonderful!
Thanks so much for posting this challengePT!! I never stopped loving this band. And thanks urbania70 for all the info. I'm so glad I'm not the only one....
- The song was originally performed by The Alan Parsons Project, written by Eric Woolfson. Guest lead vocal Gary Brooker.
- This is from a series of 3 concerts (Proms Antwerp 1990) which was the only live appearance of (nearly) all original APP band, both nominally and de facto. A rare gem for real fans.
- Eric was there, behind the scenes because he regarded himself mainly as writer. He was anyway involved as manager, like in studio.
I didn't realize Gary sang the studio version. I always thought it was John Miles. After listening to this I can hear that I was incorrect. This is such a great song! Sucha great performance, but I wish the quality were better.
the audio is not that good but any vocal of this classic and brookers impeccable vocal contribution by far out weigh any minor imperfections and urbania 70 consider the raven and tell tale heart thyre live on you too though very shadowy with the orginal project players, just a point and thank you for your continued support for woolsons parsons wonderful music
Gary Brooker is one of the greatest vocalists on earth. Thank you so much for posting this incredible live performance. This song is kinda autobiographical for Gary and he delivers it with such emotion and skill. I`m speechless...
@vigil12348 it could be percieved as auto biographical as indeed gary sang it with such emotion, but alan parsons says it was definitely about project song writer eric woolfson though eric thought other wise, it became a game between eric and alan i think
I'm so glad you had to be critical of my spelling ....I got a chance to return ere and listen to this song again and a whiter shade of pale as well ... I never knew who it was .. or put the voice with the face ...thanks for the criticism I 'm glad YTou corrected me ... I love the ..MUSIC ...Peace bobby
I don't really care about the picture is a bless to see the guys [ay again with Alan Parsons, I went to see then in 1994 in Toronto but wasn't the same band, this the real band, wow!wish I was there, take care everyone ♥♥♥♥
and people say 80's music is all cheesy synthesized crap?? This song and Time by A.P. are so poignant and beautiful. I'm sorry, but if you want to hear crappy music, try listening to 90's Seattle Grunge crap or most RAP. 80's forever!!!
From the project (and best) days: Gary Brooks (vocals), Lenny Zakatek (vocals), Ian Bairnson (guitar), Stuart Elliot (drums) and least but not least the great Andrew Powell. Only missed Eric woolfson and David Paton.
From the newcomers; Richard Cottle (keyboards). I think this must be a live concert from "The very best live" album time, around 1997.
Eric was behind scenes. This was not only the first APP concert but the only one: the following shows, due to Eric's absence, were by "Alan Parsons Live Project" which is not "Alan Parsons Project".

Autobiographical for Gary?? This song has been composed by ERIC WOOLFSON! Which by the way passed away a couple of days ago.

Same formation of studio (that's why this concert was so special). Eric was present behind scenes.

I consider it one of my luckiest days when I first heard GB's voice. PH wasn't just another band to me. Good to see Brooker is healthy.

OMFG!!! Alan DID tour BEFORE the project split?
Was Eric still around? And wheter with or without him, all hats off to the best performers Alan ever gathered ;D 5/5
SpiralPegasus 4 years ago
It was during splitting, Pegasus. Eric was at the concert behind scenes.
