@Nickcat5 - You need to read a little more carefully. I was answering the question of whether or not this was Clays pro debut. Where did i say something about a knockdown?
@1899sharkey My apologies,I had too many pages open. I'll delete my comments on this page. again,My apologies. Thank-you for bringing it too my attention.
Lamar Clark had a streak of 44 KO's against MUCH lesser opposition,in some cases guys who'd never won a fight. Still something to be said for it,I guess
This appears to be the Lamar Clark fight. Ring looks more like Freedom Hall in Louisville than the Miami Beach Convention center, which is where the Herb Siler fight was held. Also, photos of the Clark knockout show the referee dressed about the same as in the video.
The confusing thing is the graphic on the film which shows the KO in round 4; Clay knocked Clark out in the 2nd.
@macvatu Sonny Banks was the guy who knocked down a young Cassius Clay. Sonny Banks was a rising prospect as was Clay as he was known then. Banks was known as a powerful puncher and had a sharp strong left hook as his best weapon. That same hook floored Clay as he began to stick his chin out too far when he was attacking Banks. Clay came back and won by KO in 4 rounds.
Clark threw some wild telegraphed punches. If I remember right he had scored a lot of knockouts prior to this fight. But with his legs spread apart as far as they were in this footage, I don't see how he didn't get knocked out sooner. Clay did a great job of exposing his big weaknesses.
I checked the record of Lamar Clark. He only lost five fights, amateur and professional combined. That is a record of 68 wins and five defeats. Two of Clark's loses as a professional were to Olympic gold medal winners(Clay and Rademacher). In reality his record was not too shabby and he was smart enough to get out of the fight game early.
WHAT A RARE FIGHT!..it's a pity that the sound is zero..but footages are so rare..first time on internet..very good..difficult is to find cassius vs powell or vs besmanoff ..i have the one with logan") ..good job !

@MyBenjamin66 You're correct in your assessment. Clark wasn't a very good boxer,Just a guy who relied on the big punch.

yeah, my recollection of Clark is that he didn't have that much hair on the top of his head.

The guy who knocked down Clay was a boxer named Sonny Banks who was later killed in the ring.

Make no mistake! Lamar Clark has the highest consecutive knockouts known in history at 44. Of course, only against limited opposition though.
