  • why would they call it torture? the metaphor isn't right, it's more like testing the effects of a repeated action over time

  • WOW! Opening and closing! what tourture...

  • @plainrock124 hinge failure.. under heavy weight

  • @plainrock124 I'm quite sure than your current laptop won't survive two complete days of continuous opening and closing.

  • @Kullman911 yes it can, what's the difference between two days and two years

  • Be prepared! That's one of the future FBI interrogation methods!

  • I'm reminded of an old dell laptop I had.. hinges so loose it wouldn't stand up.

  • Laptop fat camp <3

  • I want a laptop opener and colser, ill never get smusdges on my screen evar again

  • Here at Lenovo Labs, we subject our laptops to vigorous routines of crunches to develop strong hinges.

  • I love my IBM T43

  • thinkpads want sixpack

  • Laptop-Sit-Ups

  • I love my thinkpad T60 2008-VEP!!! upgraded it to 3gb ram.. its its still good for the years to come..

  • its funny how asus makes a commercial that they do those kind of test... lenovo dont have to prove anything, theyre the best.

  • nope, the design is quite different. if u got a problem with the chinese products, don't use them then, simple.

  • @Mrasianpopmusic Then you must have a lot of problems to find some componentes, cause right now most (If not all) laptops and tablets are made in China.

  • What a terrible way to test laptops, i'd like to meet someone that opens their laptop that carefully each time. It would be better if the arm put more stress on one side and shook it a little each time, that's probably be more realistic.

  • I have a ThinkPad L412, great unit.

  • I thought Lenovo's are made in China? I could swear my R61e was made in China.

  • @Musicartsandcoffee Because they break so fast?

  • @Musicartsandcoffee

    Designed doesn't mean manufactured.

  • @Musicartsandcoffee Thinkpads produced from 2005-2010 are still partly IBM design. Lenovo (Chinese) bought the ThinkPad division in 2005.

  • @Musicartsandcoffee just like everything else is made in china

  • Good quick look at the computer's durability. I have an extremely detailed unboxing, review and comparison of the w510 for the more serious buyers. Thinkpad laptops all take on the general same shape/form, so look here to really understand all of the Thinkpad line of notebooks. From heating system to multi touch features, it is on my channel, here:

    watch?v=RAXyqKoWWiU

Just letting you guys know there is finally a super-detailed review of the Lenovo workstation series w510 laptops.

  • Japanese are awesome as always

  • you could do this more efficiently with your hands. Seriously, the amount of time they spent designing and then building these laptops openers could have bee n used testing 1000 laptops.

  • @ctrlaltdlt01 look at the bigger picture... now they test it without a human being... in the long run, they're saving money...

  • @ocping They're testing for the longevity of the hardware. Many companies do this.

    Dumb-ass much?

  • stupid

  • haha, looks like the laptops are dancing :D

  • so they made some machines dedicated to opening and closing some lenovo laptops... which has no relation whatsoever to a torture test.

    fail much?

  • @ocping The laptop is warranted for 3 years. Assuming you use it everyday, on an average of 3 times, you would have opened and closed it about 3000times. It's silly to employ a worker to test it manually... Besides, it's used in QC where they test the laptops at intervals. Dumb-ass much?

  • esas computadoras no sirven :D

  • release the hostages!

  • now these here over to the left are still running strong even after 20 years...

  • I seriously vomited, we need to get Think Pad rights to stop this from happening.

  • And open, and close, and open, and close.....AND REPEAT......work those hinges!

  • Because opening a laptop is so exhausting that we need machines to do it for us.

  • @94thts I think they want to be sure it could resist to millions of openings.

Now do it yourself with your laptop and tell us how many times it resists.

  • @94thts

Doing it 3000 times would be tiring, don't you think? Or maybe even 10,000 times? I know I wouldn't want that job. lol

  • This is not much torture...Drop it 5 feet, drill holes into it, and spill hot coffee on it

  • @sean21440 Thats real torture

  • i fail to see why they needed a machine to open a lap top....

  • give it to a ten year old kid and it will be tortured

  • YOU ARE SICK MAN

  • Laptop BDSM :)

  • seems like torture 2 me :)

  • ITS CALLED FATIGUE.

  • @dahgutone you are an idiot arent you :)

  • it's a daily exercise for the laptops lol

  • This isn't a torture test. FAIL

  • dumbass

they continue to do this 24/7

it's a stress test to test the durability of the hinges.

    use your brain

    you FAIL

  • My W500 hinges are stainless steel. I forgot this notebook on a summerday on the table in the backyard. went for shopping, friends next morning a woke up searching for it. Battery was drained but even after 6 months no rust...

  • Forgot to mention that the whole evening was raining.

  • stainless steel DOES NOT RUST...... lol

Steel does not stainless man ..... people like you need to know things lol

  • @xMandalorex people like you need to learn to shutup! hehehe....

(wonder if you also react on this stupidiness)

  • @ruderuud

    nah kid,

if learn to shutup then people will know the wrong info lol -_-

i think it is you who needs to GET OUT

    times up ruderuud ~

  • Stainless steel does not corrode, it is steel with added chromium and a few other compounds i think, to form a higher lustre than steel metal, that does not corrode.

  • thinkpad hinges are the best in the business

  • @appacana

not so good as they used to be

I own a lenovo thinkpad made in july 2007, I bought it in july 2008 and after 1 year it began to show bad signs, it has a small movement in the hinges when opened

  • result?

if the laptop opener burn lenovo win!

  • I DON´T UNDERSTAND

  • laptop opener?? I want one!!!!

  • @macbookfan33 ill take ten

  • Poor things.

  • This is a stress test for the hinges.. and the test lasts for 4 days as noted by the voice in the video..

  • dude, that's the same comment under two different videos. wtf.

  • quality has actually gone up, there have been some awesome innovations like drain holes in the keyboard, magnesium alloy roll cage to protect the circuit boards as well as magnesium alloy roll cage to reinforce the LCD, improved fan design, thinkpads now pass 8 US military specs, all the while being cooler and quieter than HP or DELL (and other manufacturers that don't matter), having the lowest failure rate of any notebook and still #1 in corporate notebook satisfaction.

  • i listed new features as well as the fact that it has the *lowest failure rate* in the industry, and these failure rates are going down with each new thinkpad. not only has quality and longevity gone up since the buyout in may 2005, but the company enjoyed 13 consecutive profitable quarters. the IBM PC business was NOT profitable. the military specs ARE new... the T60 series had 3, the new T, X and R now have 8. point is not if the features are new or not, the competition doesn't have them

  • since when does durability, low failure rate, and innovative, useful features not translate into high quality? what do you mean by quality then? you're right, panasonic toughbook also meets many military specs. they also cost twice as much, weigh twice as much, and have older technology. lenovo is not trying to meet military specs, they simply tested their current line of thinkpads which happen to pass 8 military specs. that is a testament to quality if you ask me.

  • msi rocks

  • I am not sure about the quality of the new levono thinkpad. I have been using T30 for six years now and apart from my hard disk died from too much hardship(torrent) last year it has been working perfectly, even after a few drops. Now its got a new heart(hard disk) and it will probably continue running for another 5-6 years. Can a sony vaio do that? I am not so sure. But I am going to get a T61 anyway coz its lighter and faster. By the way all thinkpad uses STEEL hinges not cheap plastics.

  • stainless steel :-)

    they last forever

i have a t61 this thing is rock solid, only 5lbs but built like a brick. you can carry it from the corner of the screen and it doesn't flex

  • i dunno y, but my lenovo W500 is like getting loose, on the first day its rigid like hell, love it, but after 4 mnth it became loose, now when i carry from the tips of the screen, it gradually fold open unlike in the past.

  • This is not torture noobs or is it? is it bad for pc to take it so much open and locked many times?

  • I have been a thinkpad fan for 8 years.

I have been a chinese for all my life.

    But I have to say

    I HATE LENOVO

for bringing down the quality of the beloved Thinkpads.

now more than ever since my T43 died yesterday which is exactly 5 hours after the 3 year warranty expired.

(Did they plant a timed bomb there?)

  • That's strange, the quality of Lenovo is know as the best of all pc & laptop makers.

  • So True!!=)

  • TRUE

    the new T61 is rubbish

the same goes for the R series

    I own a R61i

  • They want to see which plastic hinge brokes first. It's only a proof on materials.

  • none of the hinges are plastic, they're all stainless steel

  • stainless steel... yeah it may be, but my lenovo W500 hinges are rusting!

  • on the newer ones with steel hinges theyre made out of titanium which means they wont corrode ;)

  • yah if i was a thinkpad i would really be tortured from opening and closing for 3 hours straight -_-

  • Ehh, that makes no sence! Laptop torture! I spent most of my money on my laptop and push the screen right back all the time.

  • what is the point of this???

  • jobcreation a all Chinese

  • That's Japanese. I think there are lab of Japan.

  • You are right.

    I'm Chinese.

    They are speaking Japanese.

  • That's Japanese. I think there are lab of Japan.

  • This is from Yamato Lab, Japan.

  • Thats quality assurance.

And they don't exploit a single chinese person! But come to think of that, it would be cheaper to have like 5 chinese people open and close these laptops

  • Laptops doing situps???

  • wel actually. the laptops are being opend while being hold at one side, so thats really a big difference between opening it from the centre (if you paid atention in class) theres much more force on the screen itself now so this is actually really is hell for your screen, a laptop of any other brand would simply snap

  • That's cruel. It should be reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Laptops.

  • TORTURE!!!!

  • in reality, ppl take good care of their laptops, and this is the worst form of real torture that can happen that is unavoidable. you can avoid dropping your laptop, but cannot avoid opening it up.

  • A laptop's worst nightmare, getting opened..... then closed.....

  • and then opened again... and then closed again... and then closed ... and then opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened... and closed... and opened...

  • do they have a torture tests that simulates my cat rubbing has face on the screen?

  • wonder what the count is before the hinges give away

  • torture???????? where is it???? :S

  • Looks like hell for laptops

  • Nothing like exercise to keep your Thinkpad slim.

  • :))))))

  • Thanks nice vid
