QUESTION : There were 6 lunar missions, but in all that time, how come no one saw, nor did they take pictures of, stars during the moon's NIGHT. The explanation of the Sun washing out the brightness of the stars is no excuse for this. Especially since this was before the Hubble telescope, this would be one of the few things that would justify moon missions or any base on the moon-----as a good place for a telecope----especially the Far Side of the moon.
For the same reason that there is the Hubble telescope-----without the atmosphere, the view would be exceptionally clear. Plus, there would not be the "wash out" of artificial lighting that there is often on Earth. The far side of the moon is thought to a great place for a radiotelescope. But NASA went so far out of its way for that "lunar" rover. And yet they have NO video or photo of that rover descending from the LM. Where is the space on the small LM for such a thing ?
The Sun is low off the horizon, since all the lunar landings were done at local morning. How do you set your camera? The lunar landscape is brightly lit by the Sun, of course, and your friend is wearing a white spacesuit also brilliantly lit by the Sun. To take a picture of a bright object with a bright background, you need to set the exposure time to be fast, and close down the aperture setting too.
So the picture you take is set for bright objects. Stars are faint objects! In the fast exposure, they simply do not have time to register on the film. It has nothing to do with the sky being black or the lack of air, it's just a matter of exposure time. If you were to go outside here on Earth on the darkest night imaginable and take a picture with the exact same camera settings the astronauts used, you won't see any stars!
The point is why, in 6 missions, was no effort even made to photograph the stars ? Further, the sight of the stars would be spectular. How could one NOT notice such a thing ? But, as Buzz Aldrin said, " I do not remember seeing any stars." This is hard to believe. And wouldn't they also be looking at the Earth ? You would think there would be investigation of nighttime on the moon. But no. Yet there was the HUGE expenditure on the lunar rover, which tells us very little.
No, that is actually a very modest adjustment for inflation. NASA's budget was 40 billion. There was high inflation in the 70s, fueled by the overspending on the Vietnam and Cold wars that this supposed moon landing helped facilitate.

They didn't go back because it is prohibitively expensive. There was little public support for more trips and there wasn't really any point in going back on manned missions. Sending robots is much cheaper. Please show me some real evidence of a hoax. I have yet to see any.

And the answer is just as simple. They only had one camera for that mission. While there are a few publicity shots, like the iconic shot of Buzz Aldrin they only had a 2 and a half hour EVA, and they would try to spend most of that time doing science, collecting rocks and core samples and setting up experiments. One of which is still used, the first Lunar Laser Reflector.

Look at "Russian Moon Rocket" on YouTube, as well as "L-K Lander". If it weren't for the N-1 booster's engine problems, they probably could have landed themselves. After we landed, they concentrated on long-duration LEO missions with Salyut and
then Mir. But look at those videos and you'll see how close they came. Also, name countries that would have built moon rockets in the sixties....or for that matter today. The moon race only had two contestants that would pay the entry fee.
The Soviet Union was trying, but unfortunately for them, the N1 rocket program (the Soviet equivalent of the Saturn V)was a complete bust. Four launches, four failures, before it even got to the second stage. They tried, but failed. And the Chinese have only just begun to do what the USA and the former Soviet Union did in the early sixties. Not quite ready for manned mission to the moon yet. Still, if they go for it, kudos to them. I have given this some thought, I wondered the same thing once.
First of all calling Neal"the missions cheif pioneer" was a bit of a touchy subject- Armstrong nor anybody else wanted to deminish Buzz in the eyes of the world so it was understood that Aldrin would be the subject of most of the photos. Neal had the camera, and Buzz had experiments and other tasks. The moon missions had just began; there were still things to learn about presenting this stuff to the public. I worked in TV for 20 years. I've lit countless sets. No way can someone standing in sunlight fill in & illuminate the way it was done on the moon. It takes a large reflective area to fill in the side of the LEM. Besides the space suite is not a flat continuous surface, it is irregular & very non directional. That's like you wearing a white t-shirt & slacks on a sunny day & photographing someone in a shaded area & all you have to do is reflect on them. NOT!

set up a telescope up on the moon is utterly pointless.
-Go to the far side you will have no direct communication with Earth unless you have a satellite on your side.
-On the far side you will have no working solar panels.
-the Earth is going to block your views most of the time.
-If you can set a telescope orbiting the Earth why would you set one up all the way on the moon and get no advantage at all?

how i know 4 astronauts who had relation to Moon Program died in traffic accident - this is favourite method to eliminate boring person, as arsenic was in feudal times :)
when chinese said they wanna land in 2020 where americans were landed, NASA said - fuck you, chinks - what are they afraid?
really, USA is collection of hoaxes and myths someday truth will be opened and ur country will be ashamed...

Why would the US be afraid? After apollo 11, 10 other US astronauts have landed on the moon. Those 10 people could've set up the evidence for apollo 11 for other coutries in case they are gonna land there in the future.

Well magnetic fields of that size don't affect people so i don't see your point the earth and moon have a much too low Tesla count to even mildly irritate people.

@JandHfilms You are so imbecile , i feel sorry for you... no evidence of the hoax...? i don't need more evidence than to know that they never went back afterwards, PERIOD.......besides, Russia offered NASA millions of dollars to send one of their astronauts to the moon and NASA never accepted the offer. Bill Clington wanted to celebrate the 25th aniversary of the hoax with anohter trip to the moon, and NASA refuesed..... can you explain why...? i guess you still believe in Santa Claus.

They didn't go back because it is prohibitively expensive. There was little public support for more trips and there wasn't really any point in going back on manned missions. Sending robots is much cheaper. Please show me some real evidence of a hoax. I have yet to see any.

I know that billions of dollars were spent on apollo while people were starving,but a lot more money than what apollo cost has been given to third world charities over the last forty years,and yet people are still starving.Starvation and poverty is a terrible thing but you cant stop the progression of space travel,if they did then one day may be all of mankind will starve to death.

And the answer is just as simple. They only had one camera for that mission. While there are a few publicity shots, like the iconic shot of Buzz Aldrin they only had a 2 and a half hour EVA, and they would try to spend most of that time doing science, collecting rocks and core samples and setting up experiments. One of which is still used, the first Lunar Laser Reflector.

Look at "Russian Moon Rocket" on YouTube, as well as "L-K Lander". If it weren't for the N-1 booster's engine problems, they probably could have landed themselves. After we landed, they concentrated on long-duration LEO missions with Salyut and
then Mir. But look at those videos and you'll see how close they came. Also, name countries that would have built moon rockets in the sixties....or for that matter today. The moon race only had two contestants that would pay the entry fee.

The Soviet Union was trying, but unfortunately for them, the N1 rocket program (the Soviet equivalent of the Saturn V)was a complete bust. Four launches, four failures, before it even got to the second stage. They tried, but failed. And the Chinese have only just begun to do what the USA and the former Soviet Union did in the early sixties. Not quite ready for manned mission to the moon yet. Still, if they go for it, kudos to them. I have given this some thought, I wondered the same thing once.

First of all calling Neal"the missions cheif pioneer" was a bit of a touchy subject- Armstrong nor anybody else wanted to deminish Buzz in the eyes of the world so it was understood that Aldrin would be the subject of most of the photos. Neal had the camera, and Buzz had experiments and other tasks. The moon missions had just began; there were still things to learn about presenting this stuff to the public. One point made here that I appreciate is the cost of it all! OMG! Feed the poor!

Then why did Apollo XIII fail? What was the point of that? Oh, and spare me the physics lesson- there is such thing as reflected light even in a vacuum -I think the figure of Armstrong himself standing in the sun in a white space suite illuminated Aldrin on the LM's latter. There is you second light source.

I worked in TV for 20 years. I've lit countless sets. No way can someone standing in sunlight fill in & illuminate the way it was done on the moon. It takes a large reflective area to fill in the side of the LEM. Besides the space suite is not a flat continuous surface, it is irregular & very non directional. That's like you wearing a white t-shirt & slacks on a sunny day & photographing someone in a shaded area & all you have to do is reflect on them. NOT!

Dude- I'm an artist- your not talking to a novice about reflective light- and yes you can open up shadows significantly with white clothes. I stand by my point. I really can't believe how many hoaxers there are. I can't really make out yet whether they're all paranoid or just jaded by the government cover-ups in recent years-(Watergate,Contras,9/11-Iraq info.)Anyone who works in TV should realize this stuff is real.

"Dude" I'm not an artist & I'm not telling you what you should know as an artist. If you don't do video, then your expertise stops there. I did video productions professionally for 20 years, what we are seeing in the "moon landings" is staged in a studio. I lit enough sets to know a bad lighting job when I see it. If you want to believe the Apollo missions went to the moon, keep believing. I don't care & it won't change the world one bit!

One or two people believing one way or the other doesn't make a difference, but a large group of people who deny the moon landings are real will rob a generation of understanding reality the incredible potential of humanity. Though, I'm not really sure what effect this has or how it will play out. It's a disservice to the young engineeres who will build their knowlage on the findings of Apollo science. There's still way too much superstition in this world at this late point for our own good.

If you can find the video, "Dark Side of the Moon". Kissinger, Rumsfeld, Eagleberger all admit Nixon ordered the fake moon landing. Kissinger said he pleaded with Nixon not to do it because it could have repercussions for generations.

Doesn't matter what you or I think. Nixon ordered the fake moon landings, Kissinger, Eagleberger, Rumsfeld & others admitted it on video. None of us have a big picture of what the power brokers who run this planet are doing. We can only speculate & govern ourselves accordingly. Keep an open mind despite the fact that there are many self proclaimed know-it-all's that think they have all the answers for the rest of us....they don't. They barely have their lives working for themselves.

Alcyone... You may have been a grip for 20 years, but you are missing one very significant thing here. Sunlight falling on the lunar terrain all around the shadow area scatters and provides the fill light in all these instances. Look at the photographic tests I've done.
