Everyone can receive medical attention in emergency rooms (reguardless of pay) and many doctors do surgical procedures bona fide. The issue lies in cost of care. Cost has gone up for a multitude of reasons i.e. outrageous malpractice insurance, free care for illegal immigrants overloading the system, and lack of insurance competition. There is a difference between healthcare and healthcare insurance

In the long run implementing a health-care system in the USA that is the same as the NHS is far more beneficial for a number of reasons. @piemakesmelol No if you go into the ER of a hospital with a collapsed lung, you will not be thrown out because of lack of insurance. The hospital takes on the debt and in turn charges those with insurance more money to pay for someone else's lung. Health care insurance was meant to be for EMERGENCY situations where costs are too high to pay by yourself (cancer, spine injury etc...) It was not meant to pay for annual checkups or flu outbreaks (which is what it is being used for now).
@piemakesmelol Also, tax increases would only precipitate another recession to our already stalling economy (see my argument for tax cuts to MegaELECTRICEYE above for reference!). And, an NHS-like system would be incredibly difficult to institute to the U.S. (300 million+ people) as opposed to the UK (60 million+ people).

@piemakesmelol Thanks. It really is not about Obama, it is about a government mandate to buy a service especially as touchy as healthcare. It is unconstitutional for the government to require such a mandate. Americans have a much greater sense of "independence" compared to the UK (that's not a joke lol). A large portion of the US believes you must fend for yourself and not have the government intervening all of the time. It really is a different prism than most Europeans view the world.

The fact that America has a higher death rate than the UK is bothersome, and some people aren't being treated for illness which they could survive from only because they aren't rich enough. What I think needs to happen is for the rich to start paying up, it's only fair that people in a situation to help do so.

We are all human and giving to charities is a great way to help other people. But demanding payment for other people's services should not be the government's job. Doctor's visits are comparatively cheap compared to long-term cancer treatment which no person can afford by themselves. That's what insurance is, it is a preventative measure against a catastrophe not meant for regular doctor's visits which most can afford.

Credit has seized up and the housing market is still trying to get rid of the foreclosed houses. The market has been doing ok but only because of what you just said, corporations contracted and cut jobs until the "toxic assets" were cleansed. This allowed them to profit while they wait for the recession to pass.

Once markets settle and the foreclosures slow down, the economy should rev back up. Our roads are fairly crummy compared to international standards, so government hasn't really helped us there. Our education system is AWESOME... However, many of the ultra-rich (ex billionaires Warren Buffet and George Soros) are demanding higher taxes because it will not affect them in the slightest. In starting that business, you have to buy/lease a store, market a product, hire workers, and eventually create a profit. All of these things I just mentioned creates jobs (the owner of the store you are leasing, the marketing advisor you are using, the employees you hire). If instead, taxes are raised and you are uneasy about your finances, you probably won't risk that new business.
So do you see how raising taxes creates anxiety for job creators and they hold their wealth because they are not willing to risk losing money that is instead going to taxes? That is the crux of the Republican argument that money in the hands of investors begets more wealth for everyone because people don't sit on their money forever that's a terrible investment choice. The middle class are just as important because they may buy some shares of stocks and this encourages investment as well!

The toxic assets are still being flushed out of the economy after being tied up in complex government insured packages sold to companies. The Great Depression was caused by government intervention and price control which destabilized the markets and made a bad recession turn into a 16 year long depression. Everyone can receive medical attention in emergency rooms (reguardless of pay) and many doctors do surgical procedures bona fide. The issue lies in cost of care. Cost has gone up for a multitude of reasons i.e. outrageous malpractice insurance, free care for illegal immigrants overloading the system, and lack of insurance competition. There is a difference between healthcare and healthcare insurance

@piemakesmelol No if you go into the ER of a hospital with a collapsed lung, you will not be thrown out because of lack of insurance. The hospital takes on the debt and in turn charges those with insurance more money to pay for someone else's lung. Health care insurance was meant to be for EMERGENCY situations where costs are too high to pay by yourself (cancer, spine injury etc...) It was not meant to pay for annual checkups or flu outbreaks (which is what it is being used for now).

It is unconstitutional for the government to require such a mandate. Americans have a much greater sense of "independence" compared to the UK (that's not a joke lol). A large portion of the US believes you must fend for yourself and not have the government intervening all of the time. It really is a different prism than most Europeans view the world.

However, under Obamacare, you would have to pay a fine if you were without healthcare insurance. That really is over the line in my book. The problem is that people use healthcare insurance for mundane things like taking your kid in for a checkup or cold-symptoms. Healthcare insurance should be for major medical emergencies not regular doctor visits.

Doctor's visits are comparatively cheap compared to long-term cancer treatment which no person can afford by themselves. That's what insurance is, it is a preventative measure against a catastrophe not meant for regular doctor's visits which most can afford.

Credit has seized up and the housing market is still trying to get rid of the foreclosed houses. The market has been doing ok but only because of what you just said, corporations contracted and cut jobs until the "toxic assets" were cleansed. This allowed them to profit while they wait for the recession to pass.

Once markets settle and the foreclosures slow down, the economy should rev back up. Also, remember S&P is only 1 of 3 credit ratings agencies and the same one which gave it's highest rating to the mortgage backed securities. They were either 1. Incompetent or 2. Paid off. We should not trust them too highly.

@MegaELECTRICEYE No I don't think the middle class should be paying the burden of taxes. Why not a flat income tax for everyone, is that not fair? The bottom 50% of Americans don't even pay income tax. It's the percentile stuff where the richer you are, the more you pay which makes no sense. You penalize people for becoming wealthy and grasping the American dream. Tax cuts make it so that those who have wealth can reinvest their capital in entrepreneurial endeavors (creating a business).

@CRTtoVIP I'm all for the Flat Tax myself but not to sure that would all workout either. Just the way our tax systems codes extra are. And no the super wealthy or big corporations should not be penalized with taxes for doing well the same for the middle class for not doing so good. Well history & reality are showing tax cuts are not creating JOBS. The wealthy are investing their capital overseas not here. Because it would cut into profits to create business here.

Paying a pension does not create a job and it should be limited as much as possible. The government should not be in the job creating business unless it is encouraging businesses to create jobs.

@CRTtoVIP True Pensions don't create Jobs, its something you earn rather its from a big corporation or Government. Well some believe Social Security and medicare should be limited. Even though many earned it by paying into the system. WE the taxpayers pay for highways, that is GOV, and many contract jobs are created by that. Same for the military Jobs are created by that example Boeing building aircraft. Also we taxpayers GOV pay for Police and First responders. THOSE ARE JOBS

@MegaELECTRICEYE Yes but they should be invested as 401k's not retirement pay that people earn by working at a company. People need to save money not rely on companies or the government to ensure their retirement. Social Security is a failing system that statistically rewards the rich over the poor. Think about it: statistically the rich live longer than the poor, and you don't start receiving SS until you're 65? That rewards the rich who can pay for good healthcare etc, not the struggling poor!

True people should save, and how do they save with the cost of living going up and income going down? Government have been robbing social security for a long time. It is something you pay into when you work. It has nothing to do with rewarding the rich of course.

How many poor living in the ghetto are going to see 70 when living a hard life with poor healthcare, minimum wage employment, and the dangers of America's streets? Social Security is circling the drain and the higher the age of receiving it goes, the more it disadvantages the poor. Think about it

@CRTtoVIP Your example is not working since 401K's are going to the toilet. And with inflation going up and wages not keeping up with inflation. How are the poor suppose to live or save? Just kill them off like the GOP would like? Since they rather look out for corporate Profits and their Tax cuts rather than creating JOBS. Maybe if more Jobs was created and GOV kept their hands off of SS it could be saved.

@MegaELECTRICEYE Let's say that you are wealthy and making enough money that you can afford to start a business. In starting that business, you have to buy/lease a store, market a product, hire workers, and eventually create a profit. All of these things I just mentioned creates jobs (the owner of the store you are leasing, the marketing advisor you are using, the employees you hire). If instead, taxes are raised and you are uneasy about your finances, you probably won't risk that new business.

So do you see how raising taxes creates anxiety for job creators and they hold their wealth because they are not willing to risk losing money that is instead going to taxes? That is the crux of the Republican argument that money in the hands of investors begets more wealth for everyone because people don't sit on their money forever that's a terrible investment choice. The middle class are just as important because they may buy some shares of stocks and this encourages investment as well!

@CRTtoVIP The Corporate Tax breaks are in Place now and so are the profits being made. There is no Motivation in place to create Jobs. In fact it is to the corporate worlds advantage to cut more US Jobs.Creating JOBS degreases Profits. History and Reality of today does not agree with republicans argument, and neither is investing with the stock market both epic failures. Republicans played this game before the great depression.

@MegaELECTRICEYE That is because we are still in the midst of the "Great Recssion" which I would argue is an economically worse situation than what happened in 1929. The toxic assets are still being flushed out of the economy after being tied up in complex government insured packages sold to companies. Instead of letting those companies fail as per the usual business cycle and with them they worthless home-mortgages, Obama and Bush propped them up and passed on their failures to the US economy.

The Great Depression was caused by government intervention and price control which destabilized the markets and made a bad recession turn into a 16 year long depression. Every heard of the great depression of 1920? Didn't think so, look it up and you'll find out that the stock selloff in the first quarter of the 1920 depression was actually WORSE than 1929. The government did not intervene and the market corrected itself as it should normally do.That was prevented by FDR and it caused depression
