  • Wow, this is terrible.

  • Meh...I hated that last high note crazyness.

  • @emoxiolydian For a guy Who has a Jazz Degree, you should also let the guy know that ,b7 (That Being Dominant) Is Used in BOTH blues and Jazz, And they Do Have a Vague Reference to Blues Rhythm in the Beginning.. Hes Just Some Guy talking, You shouldve left it be.....Not saying your Wrong, but you left a few things out to prove your point, or more rather your title...

  • Magus is actually a cowboy... ah ah... Awesome !

  • didnt know magus played the sax

  • LOL I don't think I've seen this magnitude of massive ownage in a youtube comments. LHCLEGION basically got his ass handed to him for thinking this is blues rofl, what a retard.

    ADLIB RESPONSE FROM DRUMS MOTHERFUCKER

  • i love the little laugh they threw in at 0:47. and the saxophone? jawdropping.

  • Spaghetti western? Are you high? This is blues through and through.

  • @LHCLEGION clearly jazz

  • @emixolydian Congratulations, you don't know what blues or jazz are.

  • @LHCLEGION I have a degree in Jazz performance. I think I have a vague idea.

  • @emixolydian You have a degree in Jazz performance.

    ...

Hahahaha you have a degree in jazz performance? Either you're making that up, and that's sad, or you're not making that up, and that's sad too.

  • @LHCLEGION Ya, it's pretty sad I guess.

Sadly, it's not as sad and some flippant fuckstick talking shit on a video when he clearly knows absolutely nothing about music. You realize Blues in this day and age refers almost exclusively to a form, right? "Blues" as a genre would be a callback to African American music in the early 1900's, and any and everything on The Brink of Time doesn't fall under that umbrella. Virtually everything on this album is done in a Jazz vain.

  • @LHCLEGION This rendition of "Magus' Theme" is clearly orchestrated with the intent of sounding like Jazz Fusion. The section after the intro theme introduces a trading of fours between the organ & drums; reiterating the theme while spacing it out with an ad-lib response from the drums. It then does the same between the Saxophone & Guitar but in a highly improvisational way, using the previous bread and butter of the song as a vamp for the music to jam on.

  • @LHCLEGION The Sax & Guitar juxtapose blues lines on top of a more colorful and unconventional harmony, as Magus' Theme is just a phrygian vamp - not a blues .

The song then moves into a straight sax solo. Jazz is rooted in improvisation and spontaneous creation through musicians; this shines in this section. It then moves into a chaotic ad-lib section where the Saxophonist clearly channels a Free Jazz vibe while the walking bass beneath offers a new harmonic rhythm.

    It's Jazz, not Blues.

  • @emixolydian You wrote all that to correct some dude on Youtube. I hope you're proud of yourself.

  • @LHCLEGION I can understand how a guy that operates in one liners would be impressed, but typing at 150 WPM, it took me little time to stomp out your terrible argument and exploit your shaky (at best) knowledge of music. Go ahead, put your tail between your legs and go on with your day!

  • @emixolydian lol thank you for making the internet entertaining

  • @emixolydian

Holy shit. I just found this 1 year old comment. I've never seen people's ass kicked so thoroughly in so few characters. Wonderful. My hat goes off to you, sir.

  • if a "spaghetti Western" did have a particular sound it wouldn't be like this

  • It's kinda like cowboy bebop.

  • Its the perfect way to take the tune. 5*s, love every second, its just sick! :D
