Winter soldier I contains soldiers testimony.They describe an alive civilian was a VCS (suspected VC), a dead civilian is a confirmed VC. The helicopter pilots were told not to count captives before they are loaded on, count them when they are taken off. Because the marines liked to have contets to see how far they could throw the vietnamese off the helicopter in flight.
all of the veterans who gave testimony in winter soldier I said they were trained to regard the viertnamese as inhuman. Several vets described childern who gave them the finger, or said something derogatory to a passing group of US soldiers, and were summarily executed. They described shooting children for fun. Buring down an entire village in Quang tri to set an example, they burnt down the village and killed everybody in it. This was commonplace.
another guy describes a couple gunshots heard from a carbine, miles away, as enemy fire, and because of it, they had to wipe out the nearest village. The village sat between 2 rivers that converged. A company of marines sat up behind each river, and shot down onto the village . In the end they killed everybody in the village, 291 people.
another guy describes coming across a women with bandages on her (her village was hit with napalm). Because she had bandages, she was shot. A Major who was in US AID for many years and came back to the marines came over to show the marines how to handle the bodies. He slit the women open and spread her organs around on the ground. Then he peeled of all of her skin. This was to "send a message".
another guy said people in his company enjoyed staking prisoners to the ground, then slowly start cutting off body parts, cutting open their bellies and start removing organs while the people were still alive. They had contests to see who could kill the most people. There were contests between companies, contests between units, to see who could kill the most.
Kerry can be spotted for a few seconds in the film "winter soldier" interviewing veterans. What is clear to me is what he said in his testimony to the Fullbright committee was greatly toned down. What he said didnt come close to the horrific stories the vets were telling and said were commonplace. One helicoper pilot was asked how many prisoners he saw thrown from helicopters. He said oh, between 20-50. Pilots were ordered to only count prisoners when they were offloaded.
in the film "winter soldier" many of the veterans actually had photographs to show. Photographs of people being tortured, photographs of the vets posing with big smiles beside the people they just killed, etc. Just like the few we know of from Iraq. I would bet everything that those few photos we saw are the tip of the iceberg.

They had no contact with the enemy, so after a while, the gunship pilots got bored, so they flw in and dumped their ordinance on any hootch in the area they saw. a new pilot was told that anybody running is a vc. Anybody standing is a well disciplined VC. If people start walking away when helicopters are in the area, it means there are vc in the village and it should be attacked.
another guy said that villages were burned as standard protocol. Half the villages they came across when they were out on patrol were already burned. They were told to burn whatever you want. The burning was either ordered or strongly enouraged.

The viets were guerilla style fighters and that made it demoralizing for america to fight an army when they didn't know who was good and who was bad. I also heard that the vietnam war was a politically motivated war, and that people died for nothing. Thats why when I heard about it I was against the idea of it. But as for the troops, I hear ya - they should still get the respect they deserve no matter how bad the war was. People who spat on the troops were miguided and didn't look at the big picture. If I was one of the troops it would be hard not to react to those civvys who acted like that.

I am a veteran of 5yrs Marines and 3yrs Army and the people I know who were on Winter Soldier 2 are telling the truth, and when things like these happen, or even small things, a command will always cover their ass and cover it up, and its not hard to do that in the military, If these guys in the Young Americans Foundation think they know so much why the hell aren't they busting there ass in the military, then they'll more than likely shut there mouth because they'll see how fucked up it is
It's called a 'conditional release', I did 4 years active, 1 year reserves, got a "conditional release" then went active Army for four years and refused to redeploy because staying in Iraq until our control of resourses is stable is wrong, so I only did 3 years. And further more if you are in you'd know that a person can also get an extension for 6mths, 1yr, 2yrs etc...that is if you are really in the military. Look... this stuff isnt about right or left its about doing the right thing.

Fact is, released military records, CID investigations and testimony, now show that Kerry was speaking the truth about the atrocities. There were numerous atrocities committed by American troops. With a little effort, the truth can be found, which reporters have now done. Or, one can simply continue to deny the truth and feel good.
When atrocities do occur, and it is an aweful act, the military should and usually does, bring consequences to those individuals. But the extreme anti-American left brands all soldiers as baby-killers. They don't acknowledge the fact that those people are tried and brought to justice. I think it is horrible when it happens, but as a vet, I know that the UCMJ does catch up to these people, except for those like Kerry, who himself is a self-admitted war criminal. He is either lying or protected.

There were some bad things that happened in Vietnam, by I highly doubt that Kerry himself saw what he claims. If he did, he is a traitor and a war criminal. Many Americans went through some horrors I could not imagine, but I would never disgrace them by projecting the words of a few onto them.

actually if you read article six of the constitution it says that all treaties this country signs become supreme law of the land which makes the UN charter supreme law. Under Chapter 7 of the charter it states that the security council has votes on whether or not military action should be allowed unless immediate self defense is required. The security council did not approve the invasion of iraq

As a combat Veteran who did 13 years time in service and 3 tours in the middle east, please allow me to comment on your post.
One of the FIRST things I learned in basic training were the rules of war as they pertain to the Geneva and Hague Conventions (of which the US is a signatory).
It is a VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW for ANY nation to attack another UNLESS provoked. Iraq posed no threat whatsoever to the national security of the US.
Geneva does not apply to non-uniformed combatants. Rules haven't been updated to consider NGOs that fight wars.
I could torture the fuck out of a captured blackwater mercenary and be well within my rights of obtaining pertinent information about potential imminent terrorist attacks :-)

Congress NEVER gave dumbya permission to go to war, nor did Congress declare war against Iraq. It CLEARLY states in our Constitution that ONLY Congress can declare and execute war. The President has the authority to send troops but MUST notify Congress within 48 hours, he CANNOT declare war by himself.

Operation Phoenix DID do those things, not necessarily all, but many soldiers testified that stuff was fairly routine, and there were TWO whistleblowers in the Army before Mi Lai who were squelched by the up and coming Colin Powell.
However, my opinion is that Kerry was a CIA plant in VVAW to keep it under control, lest they grow to organize veterans' coup, instead he gave them a diplomatic "out", relieving the pressure inside the org. I just look at Kerry's overall background.

The business of only counting prisoners offboarded from helicopters I have heard from several people. Contests to see who could throw prisoners the farthest, or to see who could push them up into the rotor, I have heard before. The destruction of villages I have heard many times. Did you watch winter soldier I? It is full of testimony from vietnam vets. John Kerry was a vietnam vet. Winter soldier I contains soldiers testimony.They describe an alive civilian was a VCS (suspected VC), a dead civilian is a confirmed VC. The helicopter pilots were told not to count captives before they are loaded on, count them when they are taken off. Because the marines liked to have contets to see how far they could throw the vietnamese off the helicopter in flight.

Several vets described childern who gave them the finger, or said something derogatory to a passing group of US soldiers, and were summarily executed. They described shooting children for fun. Buring down an entire village in Quang tri to set an example, they burnt down the village and killed everybody in it. This was commonplace.

another guy describes a couple gunshots heard from a carbine, miles away, as enemy fire, and because of it, they had to wipe out the nearest village. The village sat between 2 rivers that converged. A company of marines sat up behind each river, and shot down onto the village . In the end they killed everybody in the village, 291 people.

What he said didnt come close to the horrific stories the vets were telling and said were commonplace. One helicoper pilot was asked how many prisoners he saw thrown from helicopters. He said oh, between 20-50. Pilots were ordered to only count prisoners when they were offloaded.

Photographs of people being tortured, photographs of the vets posing with big smiles beside the people they just killed, etc. Just like the few we know of from Iraq. another guy described how his unit was escorted with helicopter gunships. They had no contact with the enemy, so after a while, the gunship pilots got bored, so they flw in and dumped their ordinance on any hootch in the area they saw. They killed a bunch of people just because they got bored. One of the soldiers teported this back to headquarters, and the response was "OK, just add the dead people to the confirmed vc killed list."

I also heard that the vietnam war was a politically motivated war, and that people died for nothing. Thats why when I heard about it I was against the idea of it. But as for the troops, I hear ya - they should still get the respect they deserve no matter how bad the war was. People who spat on the troops were miguided and didn't look at the big picture. If I was one of the troops it would be hard not to react to those civvys who acted like that.

It's called a 'conditional release', I did 4 years active, 1 year reserves, got a "conditional release" then went active Army for four years and refused to redeploy because staying in Iraq until our control of resourses is stable is wrong, so I only did 3 years. And further more if you are in you'd know that a person can also get an extension for 6mths, 1yr, 2yrs etc...that is if you are really in the military. Look... this stuff isnt about right or left its about doing the right thing.

When atrocities do occur, and it is an aweful act, the military should and usually does, bring consequences to those individuals. But the extreme anti-American left brands all soldiers as baby-killers. They don't acknowledge the fact that those people are tried and brought to justice. I think it is horrible when it happens, but as a vet, I know that the UCMJ does catch up to these people, except for those like Kerry, who himself is a self-admitted war criminal. He is either lying or protected.

actually if you read article six of the constitution it says that all treaties this country signs become supreme law of the land which makes the UN charter supreme law. Under Chapter 7 of the charter it states that the security council has votes on whether or not military action should be allowed unless immediate self defense is required. The security council did not approve the invasion of iraq

As a combat Veteran who did 13 years time in service and 3 tours in the middle east, please allow me to comment on your post.
One of the FIRST things I learned in basic training were the rules of war as they pertain to the Geneva and Hague Conventions (of which the US is a signatory).
It is a VIOLATION OF INTERNATIONAL LAW for ANY nation to attack another UNLESS provoked. Iraq posed no threat whatsoever to the national security of the US.
THAT is why the quagmire in Iraq is ILLEGAL.

The President has the authority to send troops but MUST notify Congress within 48 hours, he CANNOT declare war by himself.

What is truly sad is that all of these acts of violence and inhumanity are recorded on video tape, and are availible to anyone who wishes to see them via the internet.
