  • Thanks for sharing. Great!

  • what a pleasure youtube is to be able to find these songs - Love Leslie's version!

  • beautiful stereo mix

  • Superbe version (great arrangements) !!! Merci from France !

  • LOVE IT :)

  • Happy 65th Birthday, Lesley! Your unique voice and music is always a source of delight for me. Your fan always!

  • Beauty and what a singer. A lethal combination. I cant imagine what it must have been being a teenage boy and watching her on television. WOW! Great song. For me. The years from 1959-1963 has to be the best time for the greatest music ever. Thank you for this great song.

  • @Os151985 I totally agree with you...:o)

  • @Os151985 Yep us old buggers can be very thankful for being born in the fifties I very much dought that there will ever be times like this ever again, this song is simply beutiful.

  • @critchley3819

You're right there will never be a time like the 1960's in the U.S. Love the music but the class ceilings and segregation can go else where. Sorry but everyone in that decade was walking around in rose color glasses

  • @ReasonedResponse I had not either untiI I bought her box set by Bear Records and I discovered it. I was completely blown away by her vocals and beautiful production and I felt more people should hear it and that is why I posted it here. It is a gem in her body of work. I suspect the record gets no airplay because it was never released as a single and today's oldies radio stations only play the mega hits of yester years and for that matter half of them have been forgotten.

  • Great song! There is no music nowadays that compares to this.

  • What a voice and great styling ... sweet but mature, coy but sure ... Leslie is an absolute treasure !

  • @ahstc1973 Great assessment of Lesley! I agree! Thanks!

  • Superb singing. TY boopkid for posting.

  • I'd forgotten just how well she could handle a ballad-considering her young age, I think she was written off and very under-rated. Thanks so much for posting this gem.

  • @petclark1 So true...Thank YOU!

  • PRECIOSA INTERPRETACION Y ORQUESTACION.........INPRESCINDIBLE LA ORQUESTACION....PERFECTA

  • @bellini7verdi Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo en esto. Gracias!

  • ME QUEDO CON ELLA Y CON BROOK BENTON....MARAVILLOSOS LOS DOS..........INCREIBLES VERSIONES DE VERDADERO TOMATE.........MUCHO TOMATE.............COMO DECIMOS EN ESPAÑA.........MUCHO TOMATE.....ES....MUCHA SANGRE.......Y CACHONDEO....Y GRACIA....Y PELEA....Y BUEN DONAIRE.......Y BUEN SABER HACER.....Y AGARRATE QUE BIENEN CURVAS...............

  • I'm a Lesley fan, but I think she was in over her head as far as the meaning of the song. She was very, very young.

  • @defundthewar I am really glad that she recorded it then, it captured her lovely voice set to a wonderful orchestration and who cares about whether the meaning meant anything to her, she sounds sublime and that's what counts.

  • @boopkid If this, or any recording brings you or anyone pleasure, then that's fine. But there is something extra, something important and meaningful, when you can tell a singer can identify, can really understand the lyrics of a song. Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Doris Day, Mel, Ella... these are some examples of what I mean. Of course, there are others. They will never go out of style, they will always be listened to. But Lesley certainly did understand "You Don't Own Me," and it showed.

  • @defundthewar

Just enjoy the song man, you're looking too deep into a nice song.

  • @OjaiRoy Don't tell me what to do and don't tell me what to say. You don't own me.

  • Yeah, great phrasing and nice lush arrangement. The jazzy delivery saves it from the almost overly sweet voice. Would love to hear her sing after her voice gets a littlel rust on it. Is she still around?

  • @wowjef She is definitely around, and her voice is lower but more powerful. You should listen to her lastest CD, it shows off a more mature and introspective style.

  • @boopkid

OK, what is the name of tghe CD?

  • @wowjef "Ever Since" released in 2005 by Engine.

  • Arrangers seldom get the credit they deserve. It is they who make the song sound the way it does in it's finished version. Most vocalists would be hopelessly inadequate at such technical artistry. Ogerman was one of the best. Even the very best musicians will freely admit that without a great arranger the music is just a collection of confused sounds. Even the so called "superstars" will normally refuse to work without their favorite arranger. Just a little credit where it's due!

  • she's was a nobody from nowhere and her version of fools rush in is way better than Ricky who had parents who were already in the business --

  • I LIKE THIS VERSION OF LESLIE'S.

  • from the lord god bless thee

  • timbodude2009 nailed it- this is a stunning version. I've been surprised and pleased by many songs on YouTube, but never startled out of my chair. Such a different presentation than anyone else I've heard. Thanks much for posting, and for the background info- I'm going to track down more Clause Ogerman arrangements.

  • @MP9721NC The same thing happened to when I first heard it years ago. It was stunning and so completely unknown, but her box set brought it back and I just had to share it with the world. It is inspired vocal performance by the then so young and lovely Lesley Gore.

  • Thanks for posting this. Lesley is great. She and I are the same age. My wife saw her perform in Eugene, Or. in an oldies show a few years ago and we really enjoyed her show.

  • love love love this!

  • Stunning........

  • @timbodude2009 Thanks!

  • I love Lesley Gore-My Favorite singer!!!

If Hollywood ever does a biography movie about her I think that Gillian Anderson

of the X-Files "Scully" should get the part..- I think that Lesley and Scully resemble

    each other.

  • @75surfgirl I thought so too the first time I saw Gillian Anderson on the X-Files, they have an amazing resemblance.

  • what hairdo!

  • Like so many other listeners of vintage pop, I never knew Gore put her vocals to this classic. Always knew it was one of Ricky Nelson's tradmark song....and his version is right up, but she's taken over the top. Her vocals to that unique orchestration is provocative. She can take any song and make it her own. I'm wondering if Clause Ogerman arranged it, given he's worked with her before (If I recall correctly on "You don't own me")? Thank you so much for posting this soulful beauty.

  • @dlynnatkinson I believe Ogerman did the arrangements, in her box set's booklet they have notes of when the songs were recorded and he is listed as such.

  • @boopkid ... thanks for the response. Given Ogerman arranged her version of this classic that makes sense he included the xylophone and strings. I have two albums by Clause Ogerman and have to say he's a master orchestra, composer and arranger. Love his style. I see you have a "jukebox" full of classics posted on youtube, so I'm sure we'll meet again in the 60s section of life.

  • Nice job on this classic. I need to

get my albums out more often. I

    forgot about this one. Thanks.

  • @BarneyUSMC Thank you!

  • ok...souper

  • Love the xylophone.......and song! Hard to imagine its somewhere around 47 yrs. old. So un-ending and up for our time!

  • @destinysdarlin1 I too thought the xylophone was used beautifully here, it add a sparkle to the arrangement. Thanks for your comment.

  • I simply love this -- how well did it do on the charts?

  • @herasmarket This was on Lesley's second album, and was never released as a single, but it's a great cover of this timeless gem.

  • Boopkid - Another gem! Thanks yet again! It's remarkable how a song can be given a totally different feel when orchestrated in a new way. I love Lesley's version and until now I had only heard Ricky Nelson's rendition. Lesley also does a truly beautiful version of My Foolish Heart -- which is remarkable given that she recorded that classic when she was about 17.

  • @rskissack Thank you! She does do a great cover of "My Foolish Heart". A lovely and talented singer.

  • she's the prettiest ginger ive ever seen !

  • Beautiful I can't help buy hum along with it

  • nice pleasant version

  • Aerial ...feel like being upthere sitting on a cloud... watching down on all this crazy world...below....

  • what a great voice.

  • Love Gore

  • hey where can i download or buy this song>?

  • @THATCHICKRICKOF08 I had to buy the box set to get it. A rare cut from her second album.

  • happy birthday lesley no facelifts for the princess of pop. do not folly suzanne somers born in '46 also. but chrissy is funny accidentally throwing the chicken out the window episode

  • Happy birthday, Lesley!

  • She has a voice like no other .

    thanx 4 posting it.

  • the late frankie lymon did a really great version of this tune, right after he left the teenagers. i wish somebody would post

  • boopkid, you're right, i meant that maybe she deserved more success than she had.

  • This is so great - Lesley had ALL the chops to be a complete jazz megastar, and she would've been right up there with the Peggy Lee and June Christy types if she had been born a decade earlier. If one of our new singers tried this song, they would just be shouting as many notes as they could improvise all over the scale, and just bury the beautiful melody. Lesley has intelligence to handle the lyrics and a deep aesthetic sense for melody, as well as respect for the song. Very under-rated.

  • @Sweeteesweet1 I couldn't agree with you more, thanks for your well written comment.

  • You said it!! I saw Lesley Gore here in Dallas last weekend where she appeared on a concert with The Womens Chorus of Dallas. Now I'm LOVING every minute rediscovering all over again on Youtube etc. She still can SING!! If she comes to your city, don't miss her.

  • @Sweeteesweet1are you speaking of a nora jones style?she does every song with the feel and sensitivity in her own way.

  • Gracias por subir este video. Eres muy amable.

  • Ogermann's arrangement is brilliant.

One of Lesley's best. So underrated. Thanks for the vid.

  • @catwallop It is a perfect marriage of voice and arrangement, a true jewel in Lesley's body of work. Thanks!

  • Would of loved to hear a duet by Leslie

and Ricky with this song ...

Musica stylings of a young Leslie are just

    unbelievable ... and how about Q ?

Q ranks right up there as one of the best arranger/producers of all time ...

  • What a gorgeous voice.

  • wonderful great voice althogh underrated

  • @joraldan I dont think Lesley Gore was as underrated as people say or else I wouldnt have heard her songs being played in a small town in West Africa in d 80s

My mom had many records of Lesley Gores which she kept from the 60s ,and I grew up listening to her kind of songs e.g. Dusty Springfield era.. Songs like these only become more popular the older they get..like mature wine lol I only wish I had been born back then when music WAS MUSIC..not like some of the crap one hears nowadays.

  • Lesley Gore is just so great. She does this standard with class and style. It's as fresh today as the day it was recorded. The instrumentation and backing vocals are the only hint this was recorded in 1963. I love you Lesley.

  • Absolutely beautiful! All versions of this song are actually! But I do love this version, and Lesley! Thx for the post!!!

  • Definitely love Lesley's version over Ricky's. I guess it all depends on what mood you're in. Very nice song!!

  • Boopkid you did bring this back into the spotlight. I am a new fan of this song. First time ive heard it and its amazing.

  • Boopkid, I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. She was my first Love, and still has a very large part of my Heart.

    Thanks

  • I don't mean to sound redundant(or repetitive) but thank you so much for posting :)

  • Love her version of this song & the musical arrangement. Thanks for posting this!! She sings it beautifully!!

  • Me too, I think both her voice and the arrangement really standout. Thanks for the comment.

  • You're welcome for the comment!!

  • What a great tune !! Thank you for the upload !

  • Loved her then,

    love her now...

    Thanks for sharing. :)

  • My feelings too. Thanks for posting!

  • I was 15 in 63. Only tonight was I able to find a copy LP SR68049 Lesley Gore Sings of Mixed-up Hearts.

Thanks boopkid. I appreciate you taking the time to post this great music.

  • Thanks for posting, glad you found the original LP.

  • One of Lesley's best. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting this, I had no idea Lesley was so versatile. This number would do any torch singer proud, and her maturity at that age is truly remarkable. Where can I order that boxed CD set????

  • Loved her in 63 and still in love with her now.

  • I feel the same way.

  • She does a great job on this song - she sang with a maturity far beyond her years.

I always liked this album, as well as her other Mercury albums - I heard through the fan grapevine that her LOVE ME BY NAME LP may soon be released on CD as well as SOMEPLACE ELSE NOW. All her recordings should be on CD - Lesley rocks.

  • She truly does! Thanks for the update and comment.

  • Sweet!

  • Fantastic! Has this been released on CD or MP3 anywhere?

  • Yes, it is in the Bear box set, an import from Germany. The album sized box set contains all her material recorded for Mercury in 5 cd's and a wonderful booklet inside.

  • it sounds great!!!!!!

  • She has some of the same features as Tea' Leoni.

  • I always enjoyed Gore. Very quiet, very private person. In this sense she was very much like Carol King. I see Ricky Nelson did a version of this. Great. And by the way, so did Brook Benton. Thank you, Leslie!

  • And not to mention ..she's got those amazing eyes !!!!! Wow !!! Very pretty !!!

  • Lesley is so cute !!! in the photo in 0:59 She's got nice purky lips .!!!! And nice song ..thanks for posting.....

  • Fools rush in, where angels fear to tread And so i come to you my love My heart above my head Though i see the danger there If there's a chance for me Fools rush in, where wise men never go But wise men never fall in love So how are they to know When we met, i felt my life begin So open up your heart and let This fool rush in
  • Wow, what a find... thanks for posting it.

  • Holy Vocal Chords, boopkid! Never knew Lesley covered this classic. What a great pairing of a top drawer producer & arranger and a young talent with a unique voice and song stylings. Thanks for posting and kudos on all your song/artist bio's. Very informative.

  • You comment underlines the whole purpose of why I posted this song- It is a little known gem waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. Thanks for your kind post. :o)

  • Thank you for posting some a wonderful song. I love Lesley Gore. Where can I get the cover photo that was on the album?

  • What a beautiful voice!!

  • I couldn't agree with you more!

  • This is very nice. I always liked Lesley's voice. Claus Ogermann is a masterful arranger, too - he did several Connie Francis tracks, including her Burt Bacharach tribute album. Thanks so much for sharing this with me. Best, Ken

  • Not bad!

    Never heard her version before!
