  • And THAT is recovery center? LOL they should sit by her and WATCH he eat not frickin leave her with her food omg

  • what type of idiot tells someone suffering from an eating disorder that they've gained 6 pounds?

  • @summergurlz2 i know, they never would have let her see her weight like that

  • "Not eating is not the disease, it's the symptom."

    Exactly.

  • Of course she's gonna stuff that shit somewhere else when the lady leaves.

  • Also, I LOVE the Asian nurse, even though Nancy was incredibly rude to her, she still cared and was concerned for her :)

  • I have no idea why the fuck the people making this movie believe that it's all about control. I had plenty control in my life, I was anorexic because I had low self esteem and because I've hated my body all my life.

  • I like this movie. Most movies about eating disorders, they'll just start eating and recovering as soon as they're put into treatment, but in this one, she continues to desperately find places to hide her food, and she's sneaky. It's more realistic.

  • Food in the wall.....I've actually done that. It started to go bad and my mother found it by the smell. Her only concern was that she had to pay for the wall to be fixed :'(

  • they do "blind-weight" now. they never showed me my weight when i was in treatment

  • I re-watch this movie because I identify with the mental obsession. This is a very good example of it.

  • Ive had bulimia since i was 22 Im 27 now for me its a coping mechanism I got weighted this week I am 189 my height is 5'1 I use to be 114 pounds when I was 23 but due to meds that decreased my eating and I didnt eat I was a size 4 but I thought I was fat but bulimia for me is easier than starving myself on my own but bulimia is there when Im sad or depressed its a frewn that doesnt judge me ED's dont see race/age/gender its a BATTLE every day 4 me but I feel I dont have a problem...

  • The nurse should be fired. She's completely insensitive. The doctor told her, "Make sure she eats," and then she leaves the room. She doesn't watch Nancy to make sure. She just says, "Start eating, please," like it's that easy, and expects her to do it. She also seemed insensitive about the bathroom issue, telling Nancy to just turn on the light outside her door--like anyone's going to notice that! It was the way she said it, too. Then, she cheerily announces to Nancy that she's... (cont.)

  • @HououMinamino ...gained weight, and looks at Nancy like she's crazy when she's not happy about it! Overall, the nurse is naive, insensitive and clueless, and doesn't understand anything about the patients or eating disorders. I know this sounds harsh, but that's how I feel.

  • @HououMinamino I know! that's exactly what i was thinking! And all the other girls in there, look so surprised when she freaks out because she doesn't want to eat! shouldn't they know, of all people, exactly how she feels??

  • This isn't like a normal ED clinic. In real life they do start you off on very very small calories. They also do observe you 24/7 and you are always watched in the bathroom. Yes, of course you can ask how much you weigh. It's a thing that you need to get used to. I am a recovered anorexic and it is one really fucked up disease and it has 98% of the time NOTHING to do w/food. It's a coping mechanism.

  • sure..TELL the annorexc how much weight she's gained

  • Okay, that makes a lot of sense. Start forcing a person who eats nothing at all to eat a full size meal. Why not start with a few bites at each meal? Why not start with very small portion sizes and then gradually increase them? Maybe I'm missing something here?

  • @flowersings Well, a lot of the time the patient is so undernourished they're very close to death and they need the nourishment and calories now. I guess that's why, but I do agree it must be a crazy shock that'd just make you want to rebel.

  • Yeah. Cause they won't notice the hole in the wall.

  • goddamn you're really gonna put the food IN THE WALL? shit

  • I think some of those people are being way too nice to her.

  • lol like putting your entire meal out on the window sill isn't going to be totally obvious ? HA

  • I actually know how Nancy feels. I used to cut and im trying to loose weight even though i only weight 107(im fifteen though and im only 4'9) and its like. I see people everyday who look amazing and are beautiful and thin, why cant i be like that. :/

  • @GabrielleLeeAnnStout I really wish I'd eaten more at your age. I used to have problems with what I ate - if I'd eaten more in my teens I wouldn't be as small as I am and I would be able to get away with eating more. As it is, I have a window of about 100-200 calories and if I cross it either way, my weight fluctuates. It's unbelievably annoying. My friends who grew can look amazing at the same dress size that makes me feel chubby. Eating in your teens does more than keep you healthy...

  • youve gained 6 lb arrrggghh and thats professional ,and then where is she going ? what do they expect

  • So many documentaries about the seriousness, danger, and psychological causes of bulemia and anorexia (as there should be), but I am still wondering why no one seems to realize obesity can also stem from an eating disorder and is very much a psychological problem as well. Also, very much about control. And, while it may take years to take a physical toll, just as deadly as bulemia and anorexia. And just as difficult to overcome on a long-term basis.

  • @HippyWitchGal eating a ton = having 0 control. Anyone can just eat a ton of food its not that hard. People eat their emotions which is just sad. Being thin is a skill not many people can do. Thin = control.

  • @brittanywhatever1 You're a dumb bitch. Fuck you.

  • @brittanywhatever1 Not eating because you cannot stand the thought of food and what it does to you is JUST as out of control as binging. Dumb. Fucking. Bitch. Go to hell.

  • @HippyWitchGal Overeating is out of control. Anorexia is all about being in control. How do you figure that being overweight is about control?

  • Is it wrong that I fancy Nancy's dad...?

    dilf

  • @GreenOrangeBlack I've been checking out pretty much every guy in this movie TBH

  • What part of "make sure she eats the food" didn't the nurse get. this place is stupid. too bad she couldn't go to someone like peggie claude-pierre who actually knew what she was doing.

  • like she would really be unsupervised during meals..

wow they wouldn't let me out of they're sight even not at meals!

  • no kidding not eating is the symptom .. and the way we feel and think is like the disease ..

  • @atlasshrugged2u it's really not a question of whether you can or not, I mean, it's not a question of having the will to do it... it's like if the path of least resistance becomes not eating. The alternative is unacceptable, in your mind. Basically, anybody "can" be anorexic if they're sick enough.

  • why the fuck are there safety pins in her room

  • Not that I am a doctor or anything but does it really help to force someone who is Anorexic to eat. Don' t they first have the fix the problem mentally.

  • @mustange550 many doctors dont seem to think like that. most o the time all they focus on is getting them to gain weight and once they hit their target weight they leave and are free to starve themselves all over again till they get hospitalized again....

  • @needashrink101 Hmm... Sad but true.. Maybe this is one of the ways that Doctors work together to make money. Without sick people they don't make money.

  • @mustange550 have you seen the documentary "thin" ? that shows it alot. the therapy seems rubbish to me and some of them had to leave because insurance wouldnt pay anymore because they were at healthy weight. all of them ended up relapsing or not getting better in te first place. its sick that people have to pay money to have a life saved!

  • @needashrink101 I saw "Thin". Polly has actually died from her anorexia after teh movie came out. very sad..

  • @littleboxxes not a good reaon eithr for kicking her out

  • why wud they give her that much food to start with anyway??

  • the shrink kinda reminds me of josh groban. like a bro thats not attractive :)

  • i love it when she pushes the tray out from the nurses hand XD

  • why does the dad always look like he's holding back laughter?

  • look she's hooked up to a bag of piss! LMAO

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my god. No way she has access to all this sharp objects while in recovery.

  • They totally don't give you napkins in recovery. Especially not cloth napkins. lol So stupid.

  • the pscicologist is zac efrons best friend on 17 again!!!

  • @tipiflower No he's not...the guy that plays his best friend in 17 again is one of the work collegues/friends of Matthew McConaughey in How to Lose a Guy in 10 days...not sure what his name is though.

  • People don't seem to understand how serious this is, and I am amazed by the lack of "putting-yourself-in-other-shoes" I keep reading in the comments. And by the way, regardless of how little brains you have is not ok to wish you have anorexia, is just too disrespectful and incredibly dumb.

  • Why can't this happen to me?...

I do just the oppositte and eat like a horse. I'm not fat but when I get stressed or things are happening that I can't control, I eat.

    I'd rather NOT eat.

  • @atlasshrugged2u trust me, you'd rather eat then not eat.

  • @he3rtbrok3n I guess but idk, I'd like to see it happen for me on the oppositte end?...

  • @atlasshrugged2u i guess your right, curiosity

  • @he3rtbrok3n Yeah just curiosity; but I found I just can't do it.

I guess I don't want it that bad or something because I hate feeling

bad and "not eating" will do that to ya LOL!!

  • @atlasshrugged2u lol! same here! i love food to much to let it go. :3

  • @he3rtbrok3n Me too, LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @atlasshrugged2u woo hoo!!! psh youd have to be mentally sick to not love food...oh wait were watching a movie about an anorexic girl... :3

  • @he3rtbrok3n EXACTLY!! and the bullemic thing, I don't even want to entertain that thought; I HATE throwing up...I don't know how they do it?

  • Why are all the girls in the support group so fat?

  • I am horrified of Ed's. If I don't eat I get sick and when I start to vomit it's impossible to stop, I don't know why. But it's so agonizing that I do everything to prevent getting sick

  • Her mother is just far too overprotective. She was definitely one of the triggers of Nancy's eating disorder.

  • This girl is crazy! It's sad to see how many girls want to be skinny to the bone. I wish people would just eat healthy and exersise but not to an extent where it makes them sick or faint.

  • the first thing you shouldn't do is tell anorexics they gained weight because they will freak out. she should have told her to to turn around then weigh her so she wouldnt see her weight which in return she doesnt starve her self further.

  • the actress is so beautiful. I love her hair and eyes.. they're just... wg0refijokdjfi43e. hehe :)

  • 03:35 sums it up perfectly.

  • she's pretty

  • thats gross sticking that food in that hole in the wall. You know thats gonna stink! lol

  • @MalissaRose lol, did anyone in the hallway or something NOT hear her banging on the wall like that?

  • @JemixShanie lol yea seriously!!!

  • FAT.

  • why would you say , " you gained 6 pounds!"

  • "Start eating, please." lol, as it if it's gonna be that simple.

  • @rkrockproductions

I can't believe you just said something like that.

  • The asian nurse lady is kinda stalkerish ;p

  • Hmm.. she never thought to try to hide her food in her mouth?

  • wow what a bitch, Sorry her RICH life is making her move on, grow up & have her own life.

  • Wow what a bitch, I's snap her neck in 5 seconds, sorry her rick life is making her grow up & be on her own.

  • god damn this bitch is crazy

  • to this girl is in too deep. she punched a hole in the wall to throw away the food. she is desperate not to eat.

  • wow tracey gold is reallllyyyyy skinnnnyyy in this movie. i think she had a real illness like this in real life.

  • @angellightmist1016 she did. she was filming this movie right after she was recovering from anorexia. she's beautiful, though. (not about being extremely boney, though.. her eyes and face and everything is just gorgeous)

  • it was so brave of her to make this movie during her recovery. God bless her

  • lame random crap.. haha gotta use that one

  • Doctor: "Why there's a smelly hole in the closet?"

  • that male doctors glasses are HUGE!!

  • @tatulover2120

    Lol, good ol' '90's glasses.

  • I love this movie.

  • Whoever weighed her should be fired from the clinic. You would think that they would know that ED patients should not be told their weight, or see it.

  • Hahaha I just love the way she doesn't even bother hiding her food descretely

  • wow, nancy isn't very subtle with hiding the food

  • @holz93 i was thinking the same exact thing.

  • I was put into a psychiatric hospital when I was 17 due to binging and purging, it wasn't the right place for me because they dont know how to properly treat eating disorders, they just gave out meds and in the long run, it just made me worse cuz I did it again when I came out, then was readmitted 12 days later. I was lucky for the fact that I stopped all by myself, I hope others suffering from the same prob can find the strength to do the same

  • They watch you when you eat, they watch you use the bathroom (and measure it) they check every 10 min when you are supposed to be sleeping, and they watch you bathe. They give you ridiculous food. I threw mine at the nurses who were watching more than once - it is dehumanizing; or was. I was in hospital in the 80's. I have been "well" for 25 years, but whenever anything in my life goes off (even before I am really aware of it) I begin to see myself as HUGE.

  • what, do they expect her to be HAPPY when they tell her that she gained 6 lbs? Stupid people. You NEVER show a person with an eating disorder how much she/he weighs.

  • @alyson32590

I agree, when i was recovering, the nurses always had me turn my back. I was also an addict with pain pills so i lost down to 95 pounds. I thank God i am well now, to be healthy and see my baby girls grow up

  • @alyson32590 - They let me see my weight when they weigh me, but I am in treatment for bulimia. I know that they never let anorexics see their weights while they are in treatment.

  • how stupid have they made the recovery hospital, oh please. a safety pin in her draw, soundproof walls, not being monitored properly. pshhh

  • Lol he wants to make sure that she eats it all, yet why isn't someone watching her in the room she just leaves her alone...duh

  • @faithoffaith well, the movie has to be interesting... I also think that this hospital is unlike any other... only for the sake of the movie. :)

  • That snack was so much. That huge ass muffin was like 600 cals and then the chocolate milk is anywhere from 100-200 cals. That's not a snack, that's a meal. I mean I get that they need to gain weight, but still...

  • That snack was so much. That huge ass muffin was like 600 cals and then the chocolate milk is anywhere from 100-200 cals. That's not a snack, that's a meal.

  • @greentara313 your worried about how many calories that Muffin and milk had? really? this is a person who probably weighs like 80/75 pounds and is nothing but skin and bones and that's what your commenting too? how many calories the Muffin is? okay so it has a lot of cals in it. she's starving, doesn't she need to eat to gain weight and be healthy again? you have to eat to be healthy no matter how many calories something has. That's whats wrong with this world.

  • @HoshiChun - My point was that in an eating disorder facility, they are supposed to be teaching you how to eat in a way that won't force you to binge and purge. So, I was observing that it was a lot of calories even though she needs to gain weight. I know that eating disorder patients need to eat about 3000 cals per day. That doesn't change the fact that I thought it was weird that they were giving her such a high calorie snack. So, get over it.

  • man this girl is desperate!

  • stupid nurse

  • That food in the clinic looks like shit! No wonder she's not eating it, lol.

  • @chocolaterocker86 unfortunately the food in a lot of clinics is like that. It's actually kind of funny because they give people that don't want to eat, food that tastes terrible.

  • Why wouldn't they weigh her backwards?

  • @GEhotpants101 i know like in that one movie with the 2 girls

  • @benamy02 Or any REAL treatment place. They show it in all the movies, because showing an anorexic how much they've gained is a terrible way to keep them gaining.

  • i think even if its a bit unrealistic i think they show it to show the lengths anorexic would go to hide their food

  • Woooow they would never have napkins at the tables an they would absolutely NEVER let you see your weight or hear how much you've gained or lost why do you think the patients are in there in the first place?

  • this "treatment" is so unrealistic. I'm in treatment for anorexia and bulimia and I get watched while eating and don't have giant napkins that I could hide food in and don't do other activites while eating. And they would NEVER let someone recovering see their weight... duh

  • she kinda looks like madonna... and that is kinda alot of food to give her...huge thing of chocolate milk and a big muffin.maybe 400-500 calories?

  • she kinda looks like madonna

  • i thought it was so dramatic when she got up and left and said "Fat" and then she tried to go back to the door, but something inside of her stopped her from opening that door. that force that made her back away, her name is ana.

  • why didn't they weigh her backwards. They did that to me in treatment it helped a bit not knowing my weight.

  • 3:20 Anorexia is not necessarily thought of as a family problem anymore. That is an old theory.

  • a real nurse wouldnt make a patient eat a tray of food that was outside of the hospital like that

  • @tatulover2120 a nurse would stand by and make sure that she does eat the food

  • In the movie that real life anorexic Tracey Gold (Nancy) was obessessed with, there was a scene where the girl in that movie pulled out her IV catheter as she was planning to run away. It start beeping, which notified the hospital staff that the patient tampered with it.

  • oh. my. god. seriously? she put the snack outside the window like that? yeah......nice one......

  • Patients with an eating disorder over 18 can sign themselves out because they are at the age of consent while minors are forced to stay unless they have parental permission. Often in a movie with a hospitalized teen, the patient will try to coax the parents into sympathy and guilt by complaining about how bad they feel and how much they hate being in the hospital.

  • @TheSlydawg11 I'm anorexic and when I smoke weed and eat, I feel like dying when I come down. I thought weed would help me, but it simply makes the problem worse. I've actually given it up because it makes me eat. I can't handle it.

  • how can a huge muffin and half a liter of yogurt be a SNACK !?

  • What the hell?..... The nurse weigh her and then tells the number right in her face with a stupid huge smile on her lips?!?!!? I so feel like swearing cause that is too ridiculous as if Nancy is suppose to react happily towards gaining weight... this will only destroy her even more......

  • how embarassing for nancy.. a clinic rofl

  • They should've taken away all the sharp objects.

  • anyone too stupid to eat, should be allowed to die....the world is too competitive and harsh to permit toleration of this nonsense.....we do not need them in the genetic pool

  • @jethro035181 what a insenstive comment that is, it is a mental disorder, they can not help it, and it takes over their reasoning, They cant help it, they want to it, they just cant. They can not think rationally it isnt because they are stupid

  • @elibeth121 ...sensitivity is not involved here...all people with mental disorders are rational 95% of the time and most of them have perfect recall...they problem is that none of them wish to act to correct their situation..there never any remorse..anorexia is one of the current "california" diseases that were unknown 30 years ago..anorexia does not exist in the third world nor among the working classes of north america..too much tolerance has lead to the exist of anorexia and ADHD etc

  • @jethro035181

Anorexia does exist in third worl countries. But its not recognized as a disease. Its not a white-teen disease

  • @lovemelongtimeAA ...any documentation please...i can't find this disease in any literature prior to 1970 and it certainly doesn't exist in victorian literature

  • @jethro035181 So too much tolerance has led to the exist of anorexia and ADHD? My kid has Asperger's Syndrome. She had a psychologist who thought just the way yo do. She said my daughter needed tough hand. We followed every instruction. My daughter almost suffered a nervous breakdown. The psychologist then tried to put her on meds. The psychiatrist said she did not need medication but to lower the stress levels. We stopped seeing that psychologist. Our kid receives therapy is fine now/no meds.

  • @IlkaZapata I am glad your daughter is better, but the majority of children these days are missing a firm hand. It is now alright to try and not succeed and to remain infantile into your late 20s. These ridiculous diseases explain really silly behaviour and are tolerated. Bringing kids up with the back of your hand was much more successful for thousands of years, than today's methods. What will become of these people in later life than more anorexia and autism or other nonsense behaviour

  • @jethro035181 Your comments are laughable. Do some research and you will see that there have been numerous accounts of people starving themselves before 1970. It wasn't until 1970 that this disease had a name and society began to research eating disorders. Until you have suffered from something as devastating as an eating disorder, you will never understand how unjustified your words are. Clearly you have no idea since a great number of individuals who suffer from an ED are overachievers.

  • @courtneysara I have done a good deal of research in other areas of mental illness and arrived at my unfashionable conclusions. Your research has been done by pimp-therapists who are much more interested in operating their noninsured clinics than in scientific fact. ED reminds me of the early days of drug rehab where anything was permitted for a dollar. There is a entire subterranean culture surrounding ED that involves free will participatition by the patients and tolerance by the therapists

  • @courtneysara ...where are these prior to 1970 accounts? who are these overachievers?

  • @jethro035181 Your research must be flawed. There are many known account of eating disorders in history. Anorexia has been described in medical journals since 1868. And who are these overachievers? I'm one of them. I struggled with an eating disorder while placing 2nd twice at the Canadian National Figure Skating Championships and while maintaining straight A's and 4.0 semesters at university while working towards a combined degree in International Business and Sociology.

  • @courtneysara And quite honestly, I am unsure why I even care to argue with someone who claims they are serving time.

  • @courtneysara ..........you are arguing with me because you crave validation and acceptance like everyone else here

  • @jethro035181 Then I suppose you do as well... What I really want is to help others who suffer from eating disorders whether you believe they are real or not. If I tell you where my sources come from, you will find some way to justify that they are not real. Accomplishing what I have in figure skating involves dedicating your entire life to sport. Hobby or not. And my commerce degree involves advanced calculus, accounting and financial skills among others. Good luck with your life.

  • @courtneysara ...you still haven't told me your sources..where are you getting your facts?.....figure skating involves some effort and skill but most of the world views this as a hobby, something like ping-pong...Also I don't want to rain on your self esteem, but a degree in sociology, nowadays, means you are slightly better than literate, everyone has one. I don't know of any historical figure who achieved anything, who did not eat...overachievers?

  • @jethro035181 And just for fun: Oprah Winfrey, Sylvia Plath, Elton John, Princess Diana, Joan of Arc, Gilda Radner, Orson Welles, Catherine of Siena.. All have suffered from eating disorders or disordered eating. Additionally, in 1873, French author Charles Lasgue was one of the first to begin writing about eating disorders in his book "L'anorexie Hysterique".

  • @courtneysara I wonder why some overachievers develop anorexia and some don't. I was a gifted student in the Honors Program, took AP classes, and got straight As. I was also in the Honors Program in college. Perhaps I never developed an ED because when I was a baby, I stopped eating for some reason, stomach upset I think, and a feeding tube was shoved down my throat. My subconscious remembers this, and the thought of having one again terrifies me. I can't watch the tube scene in this movie.

  • @jethro035181 I was raised in an "old school" family. All the problems were solved with the belt. Believe me, that does not solve anything. Just delays. Just for your information, Aspergers Syndrome belongs to the autism spectrum. My daughter has is a kind of autism. When she was very little I also thought all she needed was a tough hand. I did hit her. A lot. And that did not work. All I got was that my kid was terrified by me, but she could not help to continue doing what she did.

  • @IlkaZapata I have something called Sensory Integrative Dysfunction. It's related slightly to autism. I am hypersensitive in all five senses, have trouble with spatial relationships, and trouble with social cues. I also have anxiety disorder. SID is often misdiagnosed. I am so grateful for the psychologist who figured it out. I can understand about not being to help certain things, like having a panic attack around strobe lights or pitch black. It is so sad how many people do NOT understand.

  • @jethro035181 Today I cry and feel ashame when I remember what I did to my daughter. I hope you never, ever, have an autistic child, or with any other type of mental illness/condition.

  • OMG!! Nancy's killing herself!!

  • it is incredibly hilarious how in all movies about anorexia/bulimia nervosa the main character is the only person struggling with recovery and the other 'anas' are eating like nothing is wrong in the dining hall.

  • @LiefsteCamilla I think probably because in the movies the main character has just gotten there whereas the other girls have been there longer, so they probably already know that they can't get away with not eating the food.

  • @LiefsteCamilla

    Lol! That is true!

  • @LiefsteCamilla Well this movie isn't call "for the love of all eating disorder patients"... This movie is about Nancy, they needed it to seem as though she is the worst, or sickest, patient there.

  • @LiefsteCamilla and how come the other ones struggling are eating fruit and nancy has to eat a muffin lol

  • These girls are sharing their stories--one from possibly an abusive household, and Nancy calls it "lame random crap?" That's terrible.

  • The Asian-looking nurse acts pretty cold, in my opinion. Is it just me or do others feel the same?

  • Tracey Gold is such a good actress...many people have ED i think to feel in control and to cope with pressure..the mom in this meant well,,,but was living through her daughter and always making her feel not good enough...Tracey overcame her own ED...and I think is a happy healthy mom now!!!!!!!!

  • when i was a child i had an ed nothing like anorexia or bulimia. i wouldn't eat. to see if my dad would give me any affection but he still didn't. i think i was about 8. it lasted for about 5 months.

  • "how did i miss it?"

BECAUSE ALL YOU CARE ABOUT IS YOURSELF YOU STUPID BITCH.

    i hate this woman.

  • I wish they would make better movies for eating disorder awareness. This one is okay, but if i was eating 400 calories a day it would be a huge trigger for me to eat even less, which is why i didn't watch it then.

  • ED can be an acronym for Erectile Disfunction too

  • The food looks pretty decent at ED places. Its sad she is wasting all that good food. On top of that she is getting herself so sick and she knows it.

  • umm how does she survive if she doesnt eat

  • the clinic arent doing their job....what a sucky clinic

  • i dont understand why she started in the first place.

  • @tigerbaby6 i think it could be something to do with the scene at the beginning of the movie where nancy and her friends are all talking about the future. nancy says that she would like everything to stay just how they are, and doesn't know where she sees herself in the future. i think the anorexia started as a way of trying to stay in that child-like state physically and mentally, and not growing up.

  • What the hell? At an ED clinic, they WILL NOT let patients see their weight (duh) and they
