ricky gervais just makes jokes which some may find offensive, insensitive or at least daring, I love that. He laughs at some of his jokes because he knows many people are wondering if he's thought through how offensive his jokes may be seen, and the fact that he doesn't care much and will risk it anyway. It's the nervous laughter of a committed sociopath who likes to laugh.

I havn't seen much of his stand-up as I didn't like what I saw, but The Office and his other writings are quality.

I honestly never liked Gervais until the golden globes, then I started loving him. He made fun of people who have the easiest jobs in the world, he didn't hurt anyone. He was roasting them, something that should be seen as a badge of honor. But I thought it was funny that he told his fans, b/c it pissed off the people who were spreading the rumor. They thought the details were none of our business.
