That is exactly what they are afraid of. A lot of parents relive their youth vicariously through their children. If they harbor beliefs they their parents taught them then they want their children to have the same beliefs. If their children learn to think for themselves then these parents will feel like a piece of themselves is dying. They may do something like cry when they talk about it but their tears will seem whacky to the rest of us.
I think that biased political influence in any form should be left out of school other than un-biased knowledge about all aspects of politics. Leave it to our religion, morals and broad education to make our own biased opinion without the nudging elbow of public education.
I believe that it is our president's responsibility to get through to the youth, but try getting through the experienced parents and through society before going strait to the youth with biased selective info and knowledge.

First of all comparing Hitler to Obama is completely accurate, they are both totalitarians. Hitler was not defined solely by his racism. What was almost bad was his desire to control every aspect of his citizen's lives, which is a goal Obama shares. You people are painting that as some sort of Kim Jong totalitarian move to control the youth and there is no reason to believe the Obama admin had anything to do with it. notaperson2012...you and a lot of people commenting are missing the point. Have you heard the lyrics to the Obama song? "He said that all must lend a hand to make this country strong again." Oh, I'm sorry..this country wasn't strong before? "Hello Mr. President, you are number 1!" Hmmmm, sounds like worship to me! Politics isn't history. History is history. BTW, I'm a school teacher...and this was indoctrination. Period.

Anyway Obama had nothing to do with that song. That was some teacher who was proud of the fact that she lived in a country that had overcome the shamefulness of its past and elected a black president. Appartently she was too excited about it. I think she did have a political agenda though. I think she wanted to rid the childrens minds of fear and xenophobia surrounding the name "Hussein". Indoctrination?

by your own admission you have exposed your feelings on which way you lean. it is MY job to teach MY child on the importance of education and to respect democracy. liberal teacher? what a surprise. my daughter went to school but ,at my request ,was dismissed from the presentation. politics have no place in the classroom whether it is bush or obama.and by the way, i think obama is the idiot. you are the reason so many kids are home-schooled.

Correct....I lean....I don't force. I want my own children and my students to think for themselves. If you were a parent at my school, I would respect your request. I would not agree with it. Not all teachers are liberals. If politics has no place in the classroom should there be no history class, no policital science class? Absolutely absurd. You don't know me or my teaching so keep quiet. I guess I am also a bad person because I teach in a high poverty school district full of minorities.

You show your true colors by talking so poorly about people who give their lives to other peoiple's children. I love all my students despite race, income, religion, and stupid parents!!!! I think Obama's message was powerful and I share the same message. Go to school, do well, become useful member of society as an adult.

That is exactly what they are afraid of. A lot of parents relive their youth vicariously through their children. If they harbor beliefs they their parents taught them then they want their children to have the same beliefs. If their children learn to think for themselves then these parents will feel like a piece of themselves is dying. They may do something like cry when they talk about it but their tears will seem whacky to the rest of us.

I think that biased political influence in any form should be left out of school other than un-biased knowledge about all aspects of politics. Leave it to our religion, morals and broad education to make our own biased opinion without the nudging elbow of public education.
I believe that it is our president's responsibility to get through to the youth, but try getting through the experienced parents and through society before going strait to the youth with biased selective info and knowledge.

I got called a "typical republican who couldn't think for himself" by, I'm assuming, a Democrat the other day for posting my belief in the "reporting" of the media by MSNCB and FOX. Isn't it ironic that because my views don't align to the left I am viewed as a danger to society, but my kids are forced to recite religous hymns in school to Obama. The hymn WOULDN'T be allowed if it contained the ORIGINAL name of JESUS. What is going on in America, next I'll be racist for speaking out about Obama.

Obama doesn't care about your son. The public educational system in the USA is worse than most of the developed world. Barack is politically supported by the big teachers unions. He has already chosen them over the children with regards to schools in Washington DC.
