its like a remix of the original. the keep some stock footage but fix it so it has modern animation. Also, the story is slightly different, they even threw in a new Eva pilot. It is really good, better than End of Evangelion

it's a retelling. The story keeps to same basic ideas, but some things are changed or moved around to make a more cohesive and comprehensible story. While 1.0 is almost identical to the first 6 episodes, by the end things start to diverge a little. This happens more in 2.0, new characters are added, fat and filler storylines are trimmed, things that happened to character A might happen to character B. It's all supposed to add up to a new and final word on the series.

This replaces the part in the anime where she fights at sea (its her first apearence) it wasnt realy a notworthy angel, it got steamrolled in about 5 secconds flat (exageration, it made a full scene)

The end is uplifting. Shinji goes to the brink of suicide and almost puts an end to human history, but he choose LIFE! The ending isn't a cop-out; it doesn't offer easy solutions or claim life is easy. But at least he chooses life. Life is painful and difficult, but it is worth living. That's is the core meaning presented at the end.

Welp. I think the DVD release needs to come out first. 26th, May 2010 it says on the wiki. So probably expect about 8months to a year after that depending on if someone wants to do a direct release or dub it first.

The fact that Mari exists already ruins all assumptions. You can't assume Asuka's mother hung herself, you can't assume that Ritsuko's mother choked Rei 1 or if Rei 1 even existed. Be serious here, if the plot was still the same why is Mari there? Why is everyone ignoring this simple fact? Mari exists, while in Eva there was no Mari. Remember this simple fact. Otherwise you're going to hate Rebuild once it's all over.

Well they are, just in four movies. The first film is pretty much the first six episodes but there are some removed scenes (due to the time constraint) and updated angels (Ramiel is epic). The second film is based on episodes 7-14 and is extremely different to the series.

I was grumbling to myself all through the credits how they said Kaworu was going to "come down from the moon", but he didn't, how the plot was all fucked up because Instrumentality was starting much too early, what the hell they were going to put in the next movie, how, if I had made the thing, I'd have Kaworu show up just in the nick of time to stop it...

...and then BLAM, there's Kaowru! I was happy! ^^

In the show, notice how Shinji NEVER comes out of the delusion of happiness. Everyone is cheering for him, accepting him - what HE always wanted - the world HE always dreamed of.

In the movie, it shows what Shinji is actually doing, not just his daydream. In EoE he blows up the world to create his vision, without knowing it.

In EoE he rejected it and returned to an earth where only he and Asuka are the ones that did so.

@bloc22 I think the changes were for the better. They have a bigger budget this time, and now they can do what they wanted without worrying about the financial limitations. I like all the new changes they did in the movie just because it added more depth to the story. Mari is an example. I personally believe that she was there to represent the darker parts of humanity. I mean, what she did during the one of the fight scenes in eva unit 02 was really powerful in a literal and symbolical sense.

rebuild of evangelion is a remake of the original show in the form of a four-movie series. some stuff has been changed - the first movie was pretty similar, with some differences, but 2.0 seems to have some much more radical changes
