  • There's only one acoustic guitar cover of this on YouTube and I've been studying it all night to learn this wonderful song. (The cover is really good, by the way!) This song just kind of fell into my head having not heard it in years, and now I can't get it out - and don't want to. Thanks for posting it.

  • A classic that has haunted me for about 40 years. Yes it would be nice to return the uncomplicated, simple days of childhood love but.....

  • I first heard this when I was only 4 years old. It just had a sound and arrangment that captured my center so much, that I would play it over and over. What did I ever know about relationships at that age! I am so grateful for Glen Campbell and Jimmy Web. Thank you Gentlemen for all you have given me.

  • Just...wonderful.

  • Lyrics are a bit clunky...but the music is brilliant.

  • There have been a few collaborations of writers and singers...But the duo of Glen Campbell and Jimmy Webb has to go down in history as one of the best.

  • Very sad to here you have been diagnosed with alzheimers Glen. Keep on singing and we will keep on loving every note and every word of your songs! Luv BB x

  • guess what i'm 15 and i saw him on his goodbye tour... and i love him so much <3

  • I love this song and video. But I just have to laugh every time I see that big guy in the white short-sleeve shirt dancing (0:48).

  • One of my favorites Glen Campbell songs...love this old stuff.

  • Everyone talks about music videos being new - this was GREAT

  • God damn Glen, this is about the most honest heartbreaking song, it stops me in my tracks, it hits home, poor me, huh?

  • ...and poignant also because I think I recently heard that Glen has been diagnosed with alzheimers and is making a farewell tour I think

  • With the passing of time Jimmy Webb's music looks & sounds ever greater

  • One of the greatest American pop songs, records and artists of all time. Pop music had an emotional richness then.... simply not seen today.

  • Glen Campbell has a singularly unique singing characteristic. One that will never be duplicated by anyone. this song, brought me to my knees when I first heard it many years ago. I lost the one true love of my life. Time has moved on, and those memories which were faded and gray, are back now in color. I wonder whatever became of her? Where she is? I like to tell her she's still in my heart. Thank you for posting this beautiful song. Peace.

  • @ussvoyager2001 Thank you so much for sharing!

  • @ussvoyager2001 As Steven King once wrote " the true beauty of first love is our ignorance that it can ever end"

  • @ussvoyager2001 "Glen Campbell has a singularly unique singing characteristic. One that will never be duplicated by anyone. " Exactly. His voice is like a glider-aeroplane flying. Soaring, clean, no gravity... He could have been a great classic bariton singer, he had so much talent... in his young years he is timeless. I am from Bavaria, Germany, bought the LP "Glen Campbell Anne Murray about 1980, and from that year I admire him of that voice at that time.

    Kind regards to Glen, Reinhard

  • I listened to the song again..It still sinks deep into the core of who I am and who I knew.I did meet my lost friend...All married now and kids. I couldnt help but just ask did she remember this song..Tears flowed without even saying a word, Both sat there and I couldnt believe she had a piece of paper I had written some special words to her all those years ago..Some people would say i should have never told her that...But she wanted it said and she also felt the same .

  • A poignant song, form the the "Age of Plenty"....

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! I remember this song fondly as a kid in the 60's. Though I had no idea what the song meant, I adored the melody. But I felt that way about most of Jimmy Webb's songs! :) Had totally forgotten it until I heard it recently on a local nostalgia radio station. Nice that it's here at youtube! THANKS for posting this; you've MADE my day & my weekend! :-)

  • should`nt really like this.more into trance

  • I was born in 1959, so I grew up with Glen Campbell:). I especially remember his powerful performances of Jimmy Webb's songs -- "MacArthur Park," "By The Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston" and of course "Where's The Playground, Susie?" Hasn't Glen also recorded "All I Know," which is my all-time favorite Webb piece?):

  • One of my favorites and never played on the radio today. Thanks for posting!

  • seems like this song has memories likewise to lots of folks, just like Timberwulf2, i too used to sing this song with a girl, that i never stayed with, almost 35 years ago, the song still haunts me. I wish i had listened to my heart and not the oldies who were there to guide me, pffft. great song just the same!!

  • Really pretty tune. I love it.

  • class act

  • @simonb1115 send us for my womans love greatest song ever

  • Saw Jimmy Webb on Letterman tonight. Made me think of this song for the first time in a zilliion years. Syrupy tune but great hook.

  • great old song!

  • Just about my fav Glen Campbell track, great song, always thought he was better with his pop hits in the 60's and early 70's before he went country.

  • @bigbirdandsnuffyfan ....Yeah. He had great material then from Webband John Hartford. Surfing around YouTube, I found Glen's cover of Paul McCartney's Mull of Kintrye. There's a surprise on the bridge; you'll like it.

    Regards, Groverfan.

  • This was another favorite from Glen. I think I still have the 45 somewhere. Excellent video too.

  • Awesome song ... good old glen campbell ... loved his music

  • Fantastic footage, great song..

  • Thank God for the fond memories songs like this bring back to me! I was a politics and news nut even as a young child, so many of my 60s's memories are not great--Vietnam on the news everynight, riots in the streets, Bobby Kennedy--don't get me started on that one! Song like this one take me back to being in the kitchen or car and hearing something that put a smile on my face. Music can be magic!

  • Glen Campbell is great to see in concert.

A real geniusand very pleasant too.

  • this is the first record i ever bought. 1969. next we i bought Green River by CCR. By the end of the year i had FREAK OUT by the Mothers. I was on my way somewhere fast, never to return. Thanx Glen, hope you found SUZIE....er- the 'playground!'

  • I hate country, (especially today's,) but Glen Campbell, especially in the late 60's, is just magic. I have the Wichita Lineman album and there is scarcely a bad track on that, I can see why it sold 2 million copies. This song, Lineman, Galveston, Phoenix, just so dreamy. There isn't music like this made anymore.

  • I remember how everything looked, and felt as if I have gone back in time watching this.

  • 0:03 to 0:15 is a 1969 Cadillac DeVille Convertible

  • REALY MISS YOU DEANO

  • Still, as an ex-hippie who loves psychedelic music (but also now the classical, like Gustav Mahler) I do not understand why this songs of the great, great Glen Campbell (Whichita Lineman) moves me nearly to tears, well nearly....:-)??

Absolutely fabulous top, this man, his music! So pure from his heart.

  • Glen is wonderful. He makes me emotional every time I hear him, even though I wasn't around when he first brough this stuff out

  • great song masterpiece ..

  • @bufb written by Jimmy Webb

  • oh no, why you got to remind me? i'm heartbroken all over again. glen you're so soulful

  • Damn Glen we were young at one time hey?

  • Hi Glen, my name is Chris Hanson from Dateline NBC, why don't you take a seat.

  • He put a lot of heart in this song.

  • this takes some talent to sing

I saw Glen recently in Brisbane, Australia and i dont think he felt he had the vocal ability to do it

  • Beautiful.

  • My name is Susan, often Susie, and I often am taunted with "where's the playground Susie...you want to play around, Thanks to Zappa, I'm sometimes called Susie Creamcheese. Evidently, there are still enough babyboomers alive and kicking who still refer to the above. Oh, wait...I'm a late baby boomer. So, where's the playground Susie?

  • susie you get off lightly

I'm roger the dodger, roger ramjet, roger rabbit, jolly roger, and if they need someone lame in a movie they call him roger

  • roger that

  • Comment removed

  • His best, along with Gentle on My Mind

  • Reminds me of the beautiful Mark Robertson who was such a beautiful person and died in the early 70's on his way to work. All his mates gathered at my Mums place in Epping and we are were grieving. I played this record and my mother was so distraught, that she smashed it.

  • He sings with such emotion.

    Very poignant.

  • This song always reminds me of a girl I knew..We didnt listen to our hearts...Havent seen her in years...Miss her still

  • @Timberwulf2 - Sad - I'm sorry. You'll catch up, but there is no saying if it is right or wrong. Well, God knows. Anyway, take care and thanks for sharing.

  • @Timberwulf2

    Aww, you poor thing....

  • "But what merry go round can you ride without me to take your hand...how will you stand?"

    Such poignant, heart stopping lyrics.

JImmy Webb's wiritng and Glen Campbell's voice - a match made in heaven.

  • wow! A real song with real lyrics!!...and truly pretty and connecting to my heart. This must be heaven!

  • wow...am still having goosebumps whenever i hear this song...great one..

  • My favourite song!!

  • A beautiful pop classic from the very handsome Glen Campbell. I always loved Glen from the 1960's, he is a genius, along with Jimmy Webb. Thanks for posting.

  • This is my song, my mom sang it to me, my nick name "Suzie" I was the one that "understood" what is then and even now, I forget once in a while who I am and what my job is here on Earth,

Thank You so very much for posting, it brings a happy, yet sad tear to my eye

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting....

May we all find the "playground" once again

  • great comment rondelspirit !

  • this song makes me cry its so sad and beautiful

  • Check out Glen's 2002 concert. He still sounds great. He recently recorded "Meet Glen Campbell" which has several excellent recordings.

  • WAY COOL iamintheburg that you mention WOWO. It was my favorite station in the 1970s. Never will be a station like that again. Recall this song-so good to hear it again.

  • A gem from the Jimmy Webb song book, I agree, deserved more airplay

  • His early stuff was so wondeful

  • One of my favourites from Glen. A brilliant song that doesn't seem to get the same recognition or airtime as some of his other hits.

  • OMG......I'm 8 years old and it's midnight and Boyd and I are sneaking his transistor under the covers, playing WOWO out of Ft. Wayne, IN. That was the edge of the world for us, in the dark in Wytheville, VA. And this was one of the sounds that would lead you to the edge of the world - a long time ago, wow.

  • I haven't heard this song in thirty years.... Reminds me of my childhood, thank you so much...

  • Jimmy Webb was a hit machine. I would compare him to Bob Dylan any day

  • Thank you for these GREAT performances. Glen was a talent that was genuine and real. I appreciate the memories.

  • I think no other singer has ever done as good a job of making you feel the story of the song as Glen Campbell. What an incredible performer!

  • Absolutely no doubt about that.

  • Great song . I was wondering about buying a Glen album. Which one should I start with?

  • lonely , sad , desolate ,

  • what a wonderful song. one of my favorites from an extremely talented musician and of course from Jimmy Webb who wrote the saddest/most beautiful songs.

  • One of the best & least celebrated of the classic Jimmy Webb ballads. And what an incredible performance! A truly great singer.

  • Wow this is wonderful thank you !

  • I was a small kid in the 70s but thanks to my parents record collection heard this great singer.

Love him to bits, just awesome.

    His voice is immense.

  • It's been years since I have heard this, what a fantastic melody this track has, many thanks for sharing.

  • Thank You for sharing ! 5*****

  • No grass on the playground.

  • Agree w/Beardie10: Effortless magic. Campbell made ewverything he did look so easy.

  • This is one of the best ever, RWB

  • Never saw this clip--just wonderful. Miss Tinsley, thanks for posting one of my favorite GC songs.

  • glen campbell such a big influence on life growing up, what an artist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • big influence for me too !

  • Glen Campbell was at his peak. He had his TV show and was recording and releasing his best material.

This is one of his more underrated songs. The B-side of the original record, 'Arkansas', was not too shabby either.

With classics like this, 'By the Time I Get to Phoenix', 'Gentle on My Mind', 'Dreams of the Everyday Housewife', and 'Try a Little Kindness'; it's no wonder Campbell was such a star.

Glen, you're still one of my music heroes.

  • Effortless Magic

  • He looks eerily like Brett Favre

  • Love this song by Glen Campbell - Jim Webb wrote so many that Glen #1 hits during the late 60's. Thanks for posting this song - it's one of my favorites by Glen Campbell!

  • Only the sixties allowed quality like this to surface, there was so much like this around then!

  • The great year of 1969!

  • love it so much xx

  • Thanks for this excellent clip. I haven't seen this in 40 years. My favorite Glen Campbell song. The good old days.

  • THANK YOU for letting me have back a piece of my youth, if only for a few moments. When I heard this, it was like I was 13 all over again. Why did it have to change?

  • Its a piece of my youth too.Oh my it took me back. Nothing will ever be the same . I hate the music of today .

  • I love this song! This, and "Whichita Lineman," are probably my favorite Glen Campbell songs. Thanks for posting this!

  • This song still brings goose bumps. Great lyrics sung by a great voice.

  • He's so good it's scary and this is one of favarorites

  • I love Glen too. An incredible voice; i have often wondered whether he is a tenor or simply a baritone with an extraordinary high range.I am a baritone and can sing easily along with him except for the few very high notes.Could a tenor make those low notes in Rhinestone Cowboy(as Glen does with ease)that even I struggle to make?

  • yes, God bless, you really can see what music is all about. Today's music can't compare with glenn's voice. I realize I grew up in a different time/arena and such but come on, who would not like glenns talent!!!!

  • lots of memories this brings back respect glenn

  • One of my favourite Glen Campbell tracks. I have been a hugh fan since I was 14 and my dad bought me Glen Campbells greatest hits. I am 45 now and I love him still. Thanks for sharing.

  • Hi Susan, I'll be 50 this year and I bought that "record" by myself at a time when there was some wierd stuff happening. Nice that your name is Susan too!

    Dave from Australia

  • This was one of the music videos done for his TV show (Goodtime Hour). There's also Galveston and Honey Come Back done like this.

Where's The Playground Suzie is one of the finest Jimmy Webb songs Glen ever cut IMO and would be a huge hit for someone today. A truly timeless, beautiful song with lyrics that are filled with depth and wonder.

A++++ Glen RULES! Thanks for posting Suzie!

  • Wow--I love this song. Is this from a tv show or just a really early music video of some sort. I love Glen's singing--he is the best.

  • I am a bg fan of him too. That is a neat vid clip thanks
