  • Great old guy. However, I do believe the French gave Audie Murphy the "Croix de Guerre" (Cross of War) instead of the "coup de grace" ( [killing] blow of mercy). Heh.

And "bangthatdrumb" he actually killed over 40 men with a bullet in one hip (and that was only in his MOH battle). He did far far more than just that, though.

  • Chuck Norris is a tiny little ant compared to Audie Murphy

  • audie killed 500 men with one hand tied behind his back

  • @bangthatdrumb and then fucked all there wif\ves

  • Murphy felt the greatest moment of WWII was when the Nazi's surrendered. A soldier who saves his whole group and said by all who knew him as humble is not psychotic. A psychotic killer would not be happy the war was over. Never heard of those movies. That's how great they were in all their reality as if Audie was producer/director.

  • I have been to many old DRUNKS homes , When i was in my 20s---30s i was a plumber and that was back in the 1980s up to 1990s, Most of these old farts were back 50 miles from the fighting in supply and ammo dumps , But they can sure tell a bullshit story after a few drinks. lol

  • @VIKINGxDNA most of the guys who were in the actual horror of war dont talk about thier stories.

very few arnt botherd by it and tell thier stories.

  • I love the part where he goes, "You never heard of Audie Murphy? HAHAHAHA"

  • @ajlepisto - Yep, I had a chuckle over that part too, of "never heard of him". Could only think "Where have you been - on Mars?" I was just looking at what was Audie's last movie he made. I think his plane crash interrupted it so he only appears, as they said, for five minutes. Anyways, it starts out with his two sons in the first scenes and they sure look like him. Very interesting!

  • What is the story with the man talking? Was he in the 3rd? Where else did he serve, who is he? He sounds like he must have a lot of pretty interesting tales to tell of his service.

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • The British knocked the Germans out of Tobruk, not the Americans.

  • @altratronic Do you say the, "British," because the British think of Australian's as their colonists (the way they sometimes seem to still think of Americans) because the Australians are the ones who gave the Germans and Italians, what for, at Torbuk?

--------I am not really ridin' ya', but I do think it was a mainly Australian deal, after the British and Americans softened up the area with heavy bombing. I wont swear to it though.

    addie B)

  • Thankyou very much for putting this video on here it was a pleasure to watch

  • Audie Murphy is a great American hero.

  • Audie is my couzin im proud to be his couzin

  • @evan12454 You should be proud!!! He makes us all proud to be Americans...I can't even imagine him being my cousin. I love his movies...He is a truely great American and Patriot...May God continue to bless his memory...

  • Dont know who Audie was thats pathetic. Theres your hippie history books in the public school system. Damn commies!!

  • @Tarten46 yup i agree. its getting pretty fuckin rediculous dude

  • @re1gamer Wie lächerlich du Kraut sind. Immer der Nase kleben, wo sie nicht gehören nicht Lernen Sie Ihren Unterricht YA. KEIN WUNDER You Hate EUCH!

  • @re1gamer Wie lächerlich du Kraut sind. Immer der Nase kleben, wo sie nicht gehören nicht Lernen Sie Ihren Unterricht YA. KEIN WUNDER You Hate EUCH!

  • Who is the guy being interviewed? what state was this in? He looks like my old landlord in Anaheim, CA. He was a vet too; great man.

  • Audie Murphy did some amazing things, but that probably was because he was psychotic. He had no regard for his own life and luck was on his side. His 1955 biographical movie (where the footage for this video obviously comes from), was just 10 years after the war; but I suppose he forgot what a German uniform is supposed to look like. The movie was so cheesey; they used the WW1 steel helmets for the Germans and practically no field gear. The famous battle at the end was supposed to be in winter.

  • @M35kriegsmarine Hollywoods "Golden Age" had some of the hokiest stuff anyone could imagine. Im thinking of William Bendix overacting times 1000, the moment when Babe Ruth Called his shot in "Pride of the Yankees". You have to fit things into their own perspective. Hardly any TV, forget about cable, most people sat around a radio and listened to news and stories. People were starving for more and new entertainment, and as a country we were youthful, wide eyed and accepting of such errors.

  • @painxtreme Very true. However, other film classics of the time such as "Decision Before Dawn" and "A Time To Love And A time To Die" used original WW2 German uniforms and equipment. Audie Murphy should have insisted upon more authenticity, as he was there. Everybody looks like they came from a cookie-cutter.

  • @M35kriegsmarine Who cares about the friggin movie. Show some respect homo.

  • @beaman1981 I care about the movie, or anything else that is portrayed as realistic in all ways. If you don't agree with something that I say; that only shows your intelligence by calling me names. And I'm certainly not a "homo". Can't you come up with something better than that? You're probably some wimpish geek who sits in front of your computer and looks to argue with people, and call them names, from the safety of your geek home. Get a life before your stupid mouth ends your's one day.

  • @agammuhajir he killed a young soldier,no shit you would feel bad.stop bitching,it's war.war is horrible but necessary,you can't make the world a utopia

  • he´s a cook and a bullshitter

  • pretty good actor as well

  • Audie murphy killed 214 german soldiers and had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a true hero and was born in my birthday, June 20th

  • And to think, the military kept turning Audie Murphy down because he was too small.

    Dynamite comes in small packages.

  • Unless Audie Murphy is immediate family. . . . don't go saying that your related. Its annoying when people say things like "i am related to jesse james, audie murphy or crazy horse". Im sure if you go through your family history right now at some point you might be related to someone famous but don't go around saying it. So many people lie just to get recognition.

  • @DieForHerPhilosophy Why dont you quit popping off at everyone, and go relieve your testosterone overload. I was there the day his Widow presented Audie's Medals to the city of Greenville, (not Austin) Texas. Is there something wrong with me for saying that? Or am I disallowed since I don't have a photo of me in the crowd as Mrs. Murphy Spoke? If this guy is a 2nd cousin, he's related, and its nothing to be butthurt and typical youtube about.

  • Comment removed

  • im related to audie murphy. and what picture are you talking about.

  • @thestrongjedi

im related to audie murphy too...who are you??

  • Audie murph is like the army version of chesty lol

  • @DCfreak87 audie did in three years what it took chesty a career to do

  • Mr. Murphy was 5' 3" and from Farmersville, TX.

  • How the hell could the interviewer have not heard of The gReat Audie Murphy, what a pathetic creep.

  • I am not quite sure where all of this Jewish stuff is coming from, but

Audie Murphy was not Jewish; he was Irish-American, from Texas.

I am not Jewish, I am Catholic from France(And, Practising), but I am simply paying Hommage to a great American on a day for Decorations to ALL soldiers who served in the US Military-

I am one Frenchman who is grateful to Americans.

  • @poitrenaud I think you missed the point of that comment. The idiot who made it was not saying Murphy was Jewish, but was suggesting if he was, his name would have been required learning. It was just a nasty bigoted remark. Just a few years ago the N Y Times had an article about a Jewish soldier denied the Medal of Honor because his commanding officer sad he would never recommend a Jew for such an honor. Sadly this more closely represents the attitude of some in the U. S. and elsewhere.

  • Who was greater - Audie Murphy, Alvin York, Charles Upham or John Basiloe.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Charles Upham

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger Should have said "John Basilone". I have only heard about him since the series "Pacific". Man, he and 15 others, cut down to 2, held up 3000 Japanese for 3 days. They killed around 1000. That is some feat. I think with all these 4 guys, they were probably lucky. As an enemy, I would fear Alvin York the most. Mind you any one of them would scare me shitless.

  • @SugarTomAppleRoger id say they were all legendary :)

even the guy in this vid,i have nothing but respect for these people.

  • @LeBearExtrordinare I agree. Thanks. :)

  • He never heard of Audie Murphy?

So much for awareness of American history.

  • @bogglerful

Heck, 99.9999999% of American's can't name one person who has been awarded the MOH since 9-11,nor do they care. But they sure know what Britney Spears is doing.

  • I think it's sad that that in high school history class we never learned about Audie.

Of course I knew who he was from an early age, growing up you could watch a lot of these movies on saturday mornings.

  • @whiskeyify if he was jewish you would learn about him ever year since the first grade , guaranteed

  • @maleProstitutJimmy19 sounds like you had a much better education then me.

  • @whiskeyify "...better education "THAN" me--"

    Yes; you are correct!

  • @poitrenaud there's my problem, I didn't have a Jewish education. I got thrown into that awful public school system.

  • Who's Audie Murphy? Can someone tell me? I am very into history I have read hundreds of books but never heard of this man till my most recent book, can someone tell me what he did to become famous? (I'm also Canadian and I think he's American so that's prob y I havnt heard of him)

  • @awsomeman192 Read TO HELL AND BACK (you can watch the movie and it is VERY good...he played himself). He was AMAZING.

  • @awsomeman192

    do a google search...duh

  • I can't believe the interviewer never heard of Audie Murphy. He was referenced by Kevin Dillon's character in "Platoon". When I was a kid I saw his movies. He was a good actor as well. He was originally cast as the "Scorpio Killer" in "Dirty Harry". He was a great American and a wonderful, seemingly down to Earth guy.

  • Audie Murphy was a true bad ass!!

  • A real hero !

  • shut those fucking yacking kids and woman UP!

  • what about chesty puller?

  • cool video!

  • He was from Celeste, Texas, close to Greenville not Austin, Texas.

  • My Grandfather was in the same unit as Audie Murphy...I have his medals, and included is a Fouragere ...the lanyard he is referring to. 3rd Infantry Division...Rock of the Marne!

  • Yea, so was mine, he was a first sergeant. He'd use to tell me stories bout Murphy

  • fuckin noise in the background, i couldnt hear a word he said

  • Shut those stupid kids up a vet is speaking dang it!

  • Actually there was one soldier who topped Murphy

  • WRONG

  • The guy hadn't heard of Audie Murphy. My God, what a moron....what historical ignorance. No wonder the vet laughs...at that guy's ignorance. Geeesh.

  • @proffromgview

To be fair I am an American and thought I knew a fair bit about WWII but I never heard of Audie Murphy until a few days ago and I am 27! This guy is not mentioned in many of our history books and it is a shame. His name should be right there next to Pattons.

  • @YogiBear13 Well, guess again. And you better start readng more.....at least watch the movie "To Hell and Back"

  • @proffromgview

I asked about a dozen people at work if they ever heard of Audie Murphy and only a single person knew who he was. They younger generation simply doesn't know about him because his name isn't mentioned in most schools anymore.

  • Is this guy still alive? He would be interesting to speak to.

  • Mr.Murphy was IMO having an awakening, when was killed in a PLANE crash.

    Victory ?

    Open borders?

The public commons gone per it being civil and safe?

  • You are a dick. Keep your radical ramblings to the pages of you shitheads getting beat by the police. If you don't like the way shits going in the US.. You can always leave. That's the beauty of AMERICA..

  • Ya that´s exactly why I left the U.S. to live in Mexico. Where you can pretty much do what you want.

  • Audie Murphy the definition of "badass'? More like the definition of a great soldier, great all-round guy, and a real hero! Labelling someone like Audie Murphy as a "badass" is inappropriate IMHO. He did what he had to do, and so did alot of those guys back then. He did not kill for glory or self-gratification or because he wants to look like a "badass". What's more, he did not join the army with the intention of having such a reputation. Ask a vet what war is like. The you'll realise it sucks!

  • he just wanted to fight

  • I'm a vet, been to war in bosnia & afghanistan. Audie Murphy was a badass, quit being so damn PC. Yes war is horribly terrifying but Audie Murphy showed no fear time & time again and for that he goes down as an all time american badass.

  • lol he was like the rambo of the 50's

  • WW2 was in the 40's 1939-1945 , 41-45 for the US

  • 40s

  • @soulesslemming i see all infantrymen as badasses because of their bravery to even enlist knowing what they're getting themselves into

  • @Ir0nF1st924 Well said

  • @soulesslemming Amen, pal!!! Audie Murphy was a badass for sure. My Dad took me to his grave at Arlington Cemetary. It was there, and other ways, that I learned such a sense of Patriotism for my country, the greatest country on the face of the earth. I, for one, am very proud of our brave soldiers fighting now. God bless you and your family. Welcome home.

  • @soulesslemming Excuse me, cemetery...

KEIN WUNDER You Hate EUCH!

  • Thanks for the memory of Mr. Murphy.

He was from Farmersville, TEXAS. I love the guy telling this story. I can tell he is a true WW2 vet and a Great American.

  • definition of badassery!

  • Comment removed

  • Audie Murphy was the ulitmate badass he made Rambo look like Richard Simmons.

  • @AmericanWarrior1776 That's because Audie Murphy was posessed by Chuck Norris at the time

  • I presume this was filmed in the USA.

"You ever hear of Audie Murphy?"

    "No."

What's the world coming to? When young people are so ignorant pf history, and I mean comparatively recent history? George Santayana said those who don't know their history are condemned to relive it. The world's feeling the full force of the truth of that statement right now.

  • "Get away with your cuss cuss, don't want it." Why is it you kids respond with such uncontrolled and bitch-like profanity whenever someone makes a point you don't like? Now there precisely is a symptom of what I'm talking about. Do you know that emotional maturity is closely linked with intellectual maturity? And that EVERY thought you express rebounds back onto yourself. "As a man soweth..." Be very careful what you wish for.

  • I won't descend to your level, but bringing my kids into it is bang out of order. You can say all you like hiding in cyberspace and sounding off like a big man. But if you dared repeat any of that to my face I'd soon teach you some respect. Cretin.

  • I wouldn't mind these Internet Tough Guys! They have no idea about anything and they don't want to know. But I share your concern about why young people are so ignorant of history. IMHO ignorance is bliss to them because their life is bliss. It would not be so had the generations before it not take the actions in the past that made todays people's lives so comfortable, if you know what I mean.

  • I agree with you and I believe that means something because I my self am 16 years old. I would aslo say that there are too many kids these days that have no proper understanding of their United States history, which comes directly from our school system(no offense to teachers I know you try your best). If only our younger generations past and present learned of why, what , and how this country so great. Thank you all of our soldiers and service members supporting our country abroad. God Bless

  • Forrest, did you by chance leave a post on the story about 5 real life soldiers? Reason I ask is that someone posted they were Audie's 5th cousin 3 times removed.

  • I wonder if Audie Murphy met the Band of Brothers heroes? I think that Winters from Easy Company is probably more famous.

  • Audie Murphy never meant anybody from Easy Company.

The funny thing about that, though, is that Audie Murphy was rejected by the paratroopers, for being too short.

  • Thats a pity. I'm sure that Audie would have liked to have met these heroes. I thought Audie was OK himself too.

  • Yep-Audie Murphy was a brave soldier-both on and off the battlefield. He was one of the first American soldiers to talk publicly about PTSD.

  • wilb. I agree. They don't make em like that any more. Lieutenant General Patton talked also about PTSD. He had strong views on the subject. It is interesting that the bravest hero Audie would take the opposite view.

  • Yeah, he had it really bad. He woke up with horrific nightmares and even slept with a loaded pistol under his pillow! Whoa! That's kind of scary.

  • I have looked after patients with PTSD. You have it for the rest of your life. That's what people won't get when playing Battlefield 2 or those other combat games. I find it wrong how they refer to ppl like Murphy as being "Badasses". I don't think Audie himself would find that very complimentary, if the ppl who give him that label haven't themselves been in combat, especially the level and intensity & situations that Murphy & others have found themselves in. It IS Hell! Ppl should wake up!

  • thats wierd cuz i just got done sayin the same facts you just did in another video comment.

  • Im sure he wouldn't be mad if someone had called him a badass. Don't even try to educate people on the intensity of war unless you were in combat yourself.

  • I know, that's so not fair! Now, you go to Airborne school, and there's a lot of short soldiers (males and females) that jump out of airplanes now...Thank God the rules changed...

  • Yeah, maybe it's thank to Audie Murphy that they changed the rules. I mean he certainly proved that a short skinny guy could be a killing machine.

  • Shut it. I wouldn't call him a "killing machine", I would call him a man doing his duty.

  • dude the guy was a killing machine... who happend to be doing his duty at the same time.

Im sorry, you dont win every single medal the government can offer.. then some... then somemore for ONLY being a "dutyfull soldier"... Mr Murphy was man the german dreamt about when they were having a nightmares aobut their deaths...

  • He went beyond his duty (which was killing enemy soldiers btw) and mowed down whole platoons of Nazis! The guy was the Terminator incarnate.

  • I thought nazis were a political party, Perhaps the wehrmacht

  • I don't know why people were giving you negative marks. Perhaps because they think what the spoon-fed electron screen permits them to think. Perhaps they don't think at all but simply press the feeder bar when the light turns green. Either way, the literate amongst us got your intent and yes, Audie did his duty as a United States soldier bravely and with devotion. That's what real men do no matter what their sphere of life.

  • *5th cousin three time removed.

  • AUDIE MURPHY IS MY FITH COUSIN!

  • seriously? thats awesome.

  • My great grandpa was in the 3rd infanty division in WW11. He he used to talk about Audie Murphy all the time.

  • I have an opinion about the Medal of Honor. When it is placed around someone's neck, that is when they are honored for what they did. After that, when they wear the medal, it is to remember those who paid the price of freedom, thousands of common people like Audie, who did courageous things to keep us free. From this former peacetime grunt, I say "God bless them all!"

  • Audie Murphy was one hell of a soldier. Most men dream of being half the man he was. He brought great distinction to the 3d Infantry Division and himself. I wish that I could have met him. Thats from one Dogface soldier to another! God bless our country and our Soldiers!!

  • audie murphy killed over 240 people

  • wiiisthebest ... He did so from the top of a burning tank to save the wounded and his friends from being overran and killed. ... I am not sure what a heros is but I know one when I see one and Murphie was a hero in every sense of the word.

  • fuck you idiot

  • just saying

you can think otherwise if you want to, but i will always say he is a worker of the devil

  • Wiiis, I say you're an ungrateful twat.

  • An American who hasn't heard of Audie Murphy, outragious. What are you lot talking about? This is about Audie Murphy. He killed over 240 enemy! He looked so pretty. Ruthless.

  • People of today can't tell you who Charles A. Lindbergh was.

  • you live in safety?? i don't think so!! how many americans have weapons in their house?? you are living in fear everyday!! we in europe are not!! WAKE UP!

  • loizmavr - Just about any genocide that ever occured could have been prevented if the ordinay populace owned guns. bottom line - ONLY FREE MEN OWN GUNS !!!

  • Our victory, open borders and not one Western ex Nation has a safe city street for the victors to walk in, enjoy.

  • It's a wonderful story but if Audie Murphy was part Najaho he wasn't allowed in the grocery stores nor on the sunny side of the street. A story a lot like Adam Beach's father. We should do a story about aboriginals eh?

  • the civilization began 4000 years before in the middle east! they don't need the european or the american civilization! you care only for the oil and the money! so why you don't give solutions for the hungry people in africa and america or to the political problems ... like in cyprus?? because there is no money! about humanity: every day 50 people dying in iraq! is the situation better now? or with saddam was it better? it is the same! GO HOME COWBOYS!

  • youre from greese, lmfao. what has your country ever done? nothing! if it wernt for america, england, australia ,canada and russia, you would be speaking german so stfu.

  • man, that idiot is just talkin' crap trying to start arguments because 1.) he's bored, 2.) he ain't got any heroes like Audie to look up to. he's posting on other Audie Murphey videos too. you're absolutely right, if it weren't us, England, Australia, Canada and Russia he'd be speaking German. he needs to think about it and thank us.

  • thaks mate...hes a fool.

  • Technically, civilization is an advanced state of human society, in which a high level of culture, science, industry, and government has been reached. Exactly WHERE is this in the Middle East?

What about the poor in the USA? They have the RIGHT and FREEDOM to pursue better for themselves and can do so with the help of societal and government programs.

  • Your comment has no place here douche bag. Your lucky Audie Murphy isn't still alive.

  • to loizmavr-I agree, but sell it to our government. I'd love for a non-intervention foreign policy. But don't talk as if all americans are in favor of being the policemen of the world, because it's just not true.

As for Audie Murphy. Love his story. I just finished his book "To Hell And Back". I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't know who he was when my dad recommended it (the book was only a dollar, so I figured why not). Definetly a great man.

  • The world and humanity are just as much our business as it is yours.

We all share this planet. You need to recognize this and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

  • america is not the whole world! what about the poor children in the middle east! you want to live all the time in fear like them??? leave them alone! it^s not your business! you have your own problems!!!

  • If those children decide to take up arms against America, hijack planes to strike some buildings on American soil, and wage what they call a holy war against the West, well, that becomes a problem of ours, I reckon.

BTW, how could this be linked in any way to Audie Murphy and his fellow American heroes of WWII?

  • it's those muslim that wont leave us alone. If you change the mantra of your religion, I guarantee you we'll leave you alone. In the mean time we have to defend ourself. restrict your comments on ww2 and audie murphy. ex marine viet nam. I co, 3 Bn 5 Marine Reg. SIR.

  • And these poor children are the product of the civilization that you seemingly thump your chest about below?

  • its very sad and disturbing that this sick person goes around leaving the most sick and disgusting comments about Americas Most Decorated Soilder who did so much for this Country its just so unbelevable. the world is still the same because there is sick peolpe like you who hate America and hate soilders who fight for freedom for America and the whole world and you can laugh all you want but theres nothing funny about your sick comments .

  • God Bless you

  • ha ha ha! the world is still the same, also with heros like he was! so what!

  • i am 17 years old and a huge fan of Audies i cant believe this comment left below by some sick disguisting person it made me very upset that some one would write such a mean filthy comment about the greatst man and hero that ever lived i love you Audie and thanks for everything you did for this country . thanks for posting the video its niece to hear another veteran talking about Audie and thankyou for your service God bless you and Audie

  • Que maravilha. Adoro este ator, principalmente os que ele fez de cawboys.

  • sorry ran out of character count he signed it

  • Audie Murphy wasnt from Austin,Texas he was from kingston,Texas. kingston is down the road from my town. (he enlisted at our old post office) with the army after being turned down by the navy and marines. every year my town holds a two day memorial this year it was on june 27 and 28. I know the actors that played with him in To Hell and Back personally Paul Picerni AkA Valentino he is really nice to talk to at the memorial he always has something funney to say to me. he gave me To hell and back.

  • Mr. Murphy was from Farmersville, Texas -- my mother's hometown as well. She knew Audie as a kid and after the war.

  • Audie Murphy was a real man, a man's man. He is my favorite actor of all time, and I have about 35 of his movies on VHS. He was one of a kind.

  • God Bless Audie -- and this fellow Veteran. Thank you for serving, Sir.
