Lots of old German buildings everywhere - Ostrode was part of Germany until 1945 and the language here was German. The Germans were expelled from their homes, property and farms when Ostrode became part of so-called Poland.

@stevedn1: While you pity the former local Germans, don't forget that these people were the biggest supporters of NSDAP (along with Hamburg area).

Reminds me of my drive around Ostroda in May 2008 and I can see the hotel where we stayed.
