question: what would be the output of: after merging several raws for an HDR image, then process that image at different luminance levels and then re-merge those 3 hdrs to a new HDR? would it be like a hdr (square)?
Anyone having problems performing HDR using Photomatix and the clouds are coming out in details that are washed out, too blue in color, grainy etc.? This seems to be a problem with clouds. I am not sure what is causing this effect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
@toranagasan666 you dont have to, just keep the tripod steady and change the f. manually, or just take one picture and make it parker in photoshop then merge them (not as good at all) but u dont need to d60's are good cameras
@toranagasan666 That's a good camera, and has Bracketing, what it doesn't have is AUTO bracketing, anyways you can do it manually... - 5 or +5 using compensation button... i've done that with low range cameras and it works!
I use also firts photoshop and after photomatix. Because sometimes photomatix can`t fit the diffrent photos good together. Specially when it was windy and your tripot moved a littlebit. Photoshop is bether to detect this movement! So i hope i could help you a littlebit enjoy doing your hdrs its a wunderfull thing

what is psd format? y can i view my .cr2 (RAW) image in my comp? basically yes i lost my canon cd, but still if i connected to the pc via USB cable, i can browse my .cr2 (RAW) images :(
raw files are better than jpg it contains more details than jpg and it is easyer to edit without loosing any details. and yes you can make panoramas with this technique

Thanks a lot Mark, seriously you have no idea I've been looking to figure out how to reach those tones.. I even tried working with the burn tool for sooo long haha
hey great tutorial :) i tried doing this for the first time and when i opened my tiff file in photomatix 3.0 after i merged to HDR in Ps cs4...and when i open the tiff file in photmatix it was just a solid black image.. ne advice or help for me? :)
8sim6 I think I know what you're doing wrong - go to file, open merge histiogram striation tool, merge at 3.5 not 6.4 at .1 hst per pixel, repeat this process in layers and it shouldn't give you any more trouble.( if you do it at 6.4 you will blend all future software paths and thats a whole heap of trouble).
A very clear and informative lesson, thankyou. I do think however this particular technique produces some really sickly images. Photoshop is responsible for a whole generation of over-edited,vulgar,sentimentalized images. Just a brief look on Flickr will show you thousands of examples. They make me sick to my stomach!
you don't HAVE to, but you tend to have a little more control over the image - as RAW lacks some of the adjustments (aka: potentially quality degrading) that your camera applies
I heard so much about HDR, and always thought it to be professional's cup of tea. but after your video, i think i can try my luck too with HDR. hope it comes out good.
daaamn!!! I always wondered how to make such awesome HDR! tnx for million times! can you just tell me what exposers did You used? +1 -1 ? thanks a lot! Gonna try this as soon as i get my new 40d ;)
Wow, thats amazing. The transormation is a massive leap. The final image looks like something out of a fairy tale, from another world. From now on I'm auto-bracketing on my 400D with 17-55IS f/2.8 lens. Its a shame that our own eyes don't see HDR in real-time out there :(
Number one, I think you should use a lot more exposures, I use anywhere from 10 to 15 or more. Two, you're getting those 'halos' because the almighty photoshop didn't align them as well as you thought, and three, why don't you 'mess around' with the white balance? you'll get nicer results
1) I've never heard anyone using that many exposures. Does it really make a difference?
2) Halos happen in Photomatix too, trust me.
3) I agree with the white balance. But ideally, we should learn them by heart so we can shoot properly in the camera to begin with, instead dealing with it in post.
1) It tends to make a difference with the sky, I've found I get much more detail taking that many shots.
2) I know Photomatix does it too, as I use it on a daily basis. I didn't mean to bash Photoshop specifically, as I use it on a daily basis, too. I meant that in a joking manner.
3) I tend to get my white balance set correctly in-camera. It's still good to play with it in post though, as you can achieve some nice artistic impressions, and isn't that what HDR is really about? :) :)
This tutorial didn't work for me for some reason. When I tried to open the tif with photomatix, it would only open 18% of the the tif which would show up as a black image. When I would reduce the size of the tif, more of it would open in photomatix, but I never could get it to open completely. Bummer
you take at least two images of the same scene - one overexposed and one underexposed, some people (incl. myself) prefer to take more images, some take up to seven images - each with different exposure values (one of them exposed correctly), the point is to capture as much light information in the scene as possible (esp. highlights and shadows), it's always recommended to use tripod, so the images line up perfectly to achieve best final results... I hope this helps...
yeai know all that and i've made a bunch i guess it's the type of photography that has to be done out door huh cus like i 've tried a lot of different things i've even tried up to 9 images lol but i can't really get the effect
