  • kill the troubles.

  • there blows a lilly fair , beautiful , no?

  • Holy crap! This is supposed to be a love ballad and she sounds like she wants to beat the crap out'a whoever she's singing about! No thanks, I'll stay with Lynn Hilary of Celtic Woman rendition. Christ, at least Lynn sounds like she loves the person the song is about.

  • I like this version. upbeat .very good.

  • .....And bang goes my self-esteem.

  • amazing performance.. truely a unique sound that should be heard everywhere

  • She knows Margaret Barry but she's no Margaret Barry. Barry is still the geatest traditional ballad performer I've heard in 60 years.

  • you all need your hearing fix and a large dose of artistic appreciation tablets.

this is a beautiful song lifted by someone who has more talent and feel than anyone in Ireland or the world.

  • beauty of heart and soul and features to make the cats cry

  • No haunting mysticism here ..only a pop version to dance to....Listen to the Kate Bush druid mixx..it's not bad...it's just not the right message for this song..

  • @Cythereaswetworld You must be mad if you think this is "a pop version to dance to" Hah. Open your ears and listen.....This is a rebel song.

  • Its not actually about her love of.. LAGER is it....very disappointed.

  • @speedcrane No, this is NOT Sinead singing "Nothing Compares To A Brew".

    Any Other Questions?

  • What a ruination of a beautiful Irish Ballad.

  • Dear sister it's Me Gweeni hope You are doing well, I love you Thank You for the lovely song. From the U.S. I think of you alot, keep your chin up, we are to serious both of Us. Mother says Hi!

  • Brought a tear to my eye....

  • the best version of my favourite song of all time.

  • @ulstermourne You have to be kidding. Not even close to the best. She needs acoustics to help her. Listen to Dusty Springfield, Kate Bush & the Corrs. This song was never meant to be a upbeat rock type song. Oh, by the way, even Sinead would tell you that her Idol was Dusty Springfield.

  • @chee6060 Oh dear, this song was "never meant to be a(sic) upbeat rock type song". This is Sinead's interpretation of her idea of what the song is about. Artistic freedom anyone? The Corrs ffs.

  • Thank you HHulzebos for posting this rendition and photographs, so full of life and hope.

  • For those who think that they might prefer to hear this song sung as opposed to screamed, check out the Lynn Hilary version.

  • @hopfrog5557

It doesn't always have to be sung the same. Sinead emotes in her own way--and puts herself into the song.

  • total chills; her voice is so effective at stirring emotion

  • finbar fureys versions better

  • awesome tune sinead does a wonderful job here

  • Beautiful like Dusty Springfield and Kate Bush's version.

  • This song and singer surely gets my attention as worthy of a repeat listen!

  • Sinead is a seriously demented individual and I never had any use for her, but then she came out with the album "Sean Nos Nua" and just blew me out of my headphones with the power and passion of every song on it.

I still don't want to hear her opinions on anything, but I very much want to hear her singing the Irish classics in her inimitable style. This song is the best on the album, too. WOW.

  • @KaptKan1 you misunderstand her if you think she is demented. She has passion for expressing truth above all, even if that truth is misunderstood by others. You should educate yourself about her more.

  • @KatJaguar1122 But it seems you have heard her true spirit come thru on this album, yet she has MANY. She has an amazing body of work, and is a genuine example of a human being.

  • great voice, poor performence of this song though, all the nuances are gone, coould have been britney or rhianna tha performed it.no feeling

  • what a powerful woman

  • This Is AMAZING!!! NO ONE Can Top Sinead!!!

  • The best version of my lagan love, Sinnead beside this beautiful awesome song, you are so pretty.....love you.

  • Ruined a good song.... a damn shame.

  • @TheOperababe18 The hell with you and opera bitch... this is an Irish song and Sinead is as Irish as you get.

  • John Loesberg in his "Folksongs and Ballads Popular in Ireland, vol. 2" (Ossian Publications, Cork, 1980) states that the words are by Joseph McCahill, set to an old Irish air. (p. 71). I fully appreciate it as a love song, without any political meaning. Loesberg would not try to cover any political meaning up. I think Sinead did a huge artistry with this song, and the "rock" arrangement only adds to the magic of it. I am just sorry that she left out the third verse. Wonderful, anyway!

  • whatever she signs i enjoy..her voice and talent amazing..

  • finbar furey does it 123123413 better

  • How could anyone do this song better?

  • love it, wish she would do somemore gaelic songs =)

  • I really love this version, Sinead has such a beautiful and evocative voice, fantastic!!

  • lynn hilary is much better than sinead, well i love much better lynn version bcuz is more peacefuly and her voice is really deep.

  • immense

  • Good singer but you would never feel comfortable if she was around.

  • if this does not move you, you need to check for a pulse....

  • could she actually be any more amazin!!

  • Mary Black's version (with Phil Coulter) is nicer.

  • @btwclassic

It may be nicer. but it ain't as potent. Sinead sings politically, whack it up selcetor.

  • My Lagan Love is not a political song. I merely stated a preference.

  • If u don't think this is a political song then I believe you can only half enjoy it. Listen to words like "steal" and "creep" and imagery like insects, undergrowth and mist. To me it spells out the need for stealth and living in the shackles of oppression. Importantly though, the oppressed are fighting back " in sweet and undertones the song of hearts desire" In my opinion this is a rebel song.

  • Its not a song, but poem by Joseph Campbel. And surely political, when he couldnt wrote about his country, he had to call her girl.

  • I've heard quite a few versions of this song, but for me SInead's is the most resonant, the most passionate & the most eloquent.

  • I completely adore Sinéad..

  • Surely this is the greatest female singer of all time??

  • More like banshee.

  • Do you know what a ban si is?

  • This is from a website:

"In Scottish Gaelic a "leannan-sidhe" is a Faery Lover. This type of Faery Lover

often takes a person's love and then leaves. He or she goes back where they came

from (Faery Land?) leaving the human pining for their lost love. The poor

mortals in the tales of leannan sidhe often died of sorrow. DS,BG""

  • A whole week I'm listening this song...incredible addiction! I discovered her only few time ago and I'm completely found of her. I have read her biography (even incredible...) and I feel in this song all the intensity I read. Thank you (and sorry for grammatical mistakes...)

  • My mum listened to this as I grew up, I love it.

  • very interesting version of this song but i really like it i dont know why some people are complaining. very unique. i wish i could get an acapella version of this or at least acoustic the music is too much

  • @Tilara Celtic Woman sings an acapella version of this

  • Different style but filled with emotion.

  • Check out Charlotte Church's version. It is the best by far.

  • Oh,no.You've just forgotten that nothing compares to Sinead.

  • Why does this tune remind me of Sandy Denny's "Quiet Joys of Brotherhood?"

  • @ sujeffay I think it is exactly the same tune

  • she means it

  • Great tune & Her voice is an utter diamond..I'm not keen on the plinky plonky pop beat either though! S'ok tho..the song is great so it survives

  • Sinéad and her band have lost so much of the longing and beauty of this song. It works OK for a pop/world audience but very much misses the mark on a Gaelic cultural level. I acknowledge that she is a very talented artist nonetheless and no disrespect intended.

  • I have heard Kate Bush is is going to record a version of this song.

I have to say I totally disagree with your commentary.

Can you explain what would have made the song hit the mark on a Gaelic cultural level?

It's so easy to flame you for what you wrote..but, I'd rather hear you explain.

  • The simplicity and introspection expressed by the words and character of the melody gives the song its power. A stadium rock backing pulls it in a different emotional direction and audience. Something's lost and something's gained.

As a native Gael, brought up in that musical tradition, Maureen Hegarty's version hits home far more for the same reasons she sang it the way she did. I make no excuses for my culture, but I do not feel it worthy to "flame" anyone else for theirs.

    Peace.

  • "My Lagan Love"(along with "Burning Bridge") appears on the B-side of Kate Bush's 12inch EP "Cloudbusting" of 1985.

Kate uses her own lyrics and sings so beautifully here. Enjoy.

  • I don't know what you mean? I take it you're not irish by the use of the work Gaelic, we don't say gaelic. I think the captures the essence of irish culture

  • What a butch!

  • a softer version would suit, she is amazing, but this version is too loud to capture the sensual spirit of the lyrics written to me...

  • Soo Talented will ye be at the next Celic Connections??

  • the "crickets singing stone" is about the Quislings who sold out the cause.

  • This is a heavily disguised or at least deceptive rebel song. I love it, whack it up selector..........

  • i know this song as sung much softer but i totally love this version

  • I agree. It stays with you a long time! In a very pleasant way. Spirited!

  • pretty beautiful person Sinead. I used to live near her and she's so small it was hard to to step on her on the street. Nothing small about her voice... her heart makes me feel like a dwarf.

  • One of the best songs Sinead has ever sung. Brilliant.

  • it's everyone's who's had the balls to sing it's best song

  • WOW

    so very intense

  • No life I own, nor liberty.

For love is Lord of all.

  • Nor life I owe* :)

At least that's according to my sheet music

  • I concur!

  • I learned, "No life I own, nor liberty

For love is lord of all."

  • Oweing and owning are one root. For example, if you owe a debt (of love) you belong to whom u owe.

  • This is amazing and wonderful. Dusty Springfield also did a version of this lovely song from 1967 - totally different - check it out here.

  • Could anyone tell me what a 'leannan si' is, please? :) Thank you

  • Leannan= Darling

  • thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • a "lovesick leannan si" is um...i'll tell you:

  • What's the historical significance of this song? I've seen several well known Irish artists sing it.

  • Variants of the lyrics go back over a century and the melody probably goes back hundreds of years before that. I once tracked down the full history but have since forgotten much of it. Sinead's version is much shorter than the others, which is a shame since her version is by far the most powerful i've yet heard.

  • i agree that voie fucks me ,love it

  • It seduced me also. I haven't been able to stop listening to her for the last four days. She has the most unique voice I've ever heard.

  • This hit me about 3 years ago and i still come back ever now and then. I posted tons of info about the history of this song on a site but sadly the site is now down.

  • Thank you for the response. You're right, this is a very intense song.

  • beats any 0898 fapline.

  • oh sinead what a goddess you are

  • ar u lookon in the mirror?

  • Tickle me, I forgot to laugh. The beurrifull Corrs, no way. Pop music for muppets. Senoid is an artist.

  • rock it up selector?

  • Whack it up selector.

  • No conocía a esta cantante... me ha dejado alucinada su voz...

  • para mi la mejor voz femenina, impresionante, sinead es pura magia

  • I was looking for a very long time for this version! Much thanks for making this possible!!

    Finally...

  • This is my favourite version of this song by far.Its just stunning!Plus, good call on including the lyrics.I play and sing this song but when I first learned it,I found it hard to find lyrics becasue there are several different versions!Class song!

  • So, since there is almost certainly no official video for this song, you imply that we do not want the song on youtube, in which case, we have to wonder what youtube is for? Videos?

    Idiot.

  • verbod) What an idiot you are. No wonder you don't have a country.

  • Is that off of "She Who Dwells?"

  • One of the highlights from one of my favourite albums.

    Many thanks for posting.

  • Oh,so sorry for that hostile post below! Not everyone feels that way. This is one of my very favorite songs.Thank you for your creativity-the song inspired you.Good for you.The lyrics are very unusual-maybe only the devoted Sinead fan knows them by heart.Useful for others! Sinead forever.
