Exactly. The way this piece ended, the last man talking made it seem like we lived in a healthy democracy because eventually the veterans got their way. It only took years and years of marching, being gassed and murdered. And even then, it's clear that they only got their way because they were a force to be reckoned with. They didn't "triumph" because the government felt it was the right thing to do, but because they put the politicians in a between a rock and a hard place.
