Rrrrright. Like a project lead is going to use "search" to find team members for the project. There's no bureaucracy involved in budget planning and staffing and all that crap. And what's this bullshit about spending "valuable time trying to coordinate with other project leads and stakeholders"? She's a project lead, that's part of her bloody job! That's is what I hate about modern managers: they try to offload all their work to people who have their hands full trying to get stuff done.
Really enjoyed this simple yet effect way of explaining SharePoint. Seeing how we're just really starting to implement SP at my place of employment; is it ok for me to use this video as part of my SP presentation to my colleagues?
I am sooooo glad I never had to 'collaborate' in 'projects'! Sounds like wading in molasses.... I like the old-fashioned method: the boss tells you what he wants, when he wants it, what your constraints are, and sets benchmarks to make sure you don't go off on tangents.
@grappler100 The older versions of SharePoint were primarly just that. It is only recently (with 2007 release) that SharePoint has seriously started playing in the fields of composite applications, reporting and more. Happy SharePointing. :)
this is really good man, i like how real it is, not unlike microsoft they think us humans are computers to. understanding all that mambo jambo. once againt thanks
Thank goodness we'll no longer have to talk to our coworkers. I hated building relationships in that way.
Likewise I'm pleased that time spent travelling to meetings and arranging teams and project work can now be spent writing things on my sharepoint profile, complaining to IT about functional limitations and trying to keep the sharepoint folders up to date.
Stop whining about your personal life...the only "connection" you need is "what is best for the company and us". That is it. Getting into personal nonsense hurts...not helps...team functioning. DO YOUR JOB and shut your mouth when you're talking to me!
@burningedgekx Like we don't give enough info about ourselves on websites like Facebook, Myspace, Youtube (owned by google). Granted sharepoint has more features but sometimes people don't want to pay too much for features they probably barely of wont even use.
I've been using SharePoint for the past 3 years. The platform does document management better than anything else mentioned in the video, so that may explain the focus on that functionality. Keep in mind that the video is not a reflection of SharePoint OOTB, and outside of document management, the other features leave a lot to be desired... especially compared to the many strong open source offerings out there.
@dmightx Microsoft has indeed a different approach in what concerns storing the data, if that's what you mean. But, there are still businesses that take advantage of Googles' strategy.
@igloodesigners Forgive the late reply. I missed the email alert somehow. It's difficult to make a short list without knowing what you want to do, but here are a few notables off the top of my head.
Atlassian Confluence - a true enterprise wiki
Google Wave - real-time and asynchronous collaboration platform (not sure if Google will relaunch this somehow). Google docs is another strong competitor in this space.
Drupal and WordPress - site/blog management (Drupal is behind whitehouse.gov FYI)
@swimmer4ever200687 I often think of SharePoint as a db front-end, so your skills in data modeling/IA could some in handy there, especially if you want to develop your own web parts and such. PHP isn't applicable as far as I know, but ASP definitely is.
How about Google docs? I don't know, the video is good as usual, but I feel this is the first time that common craft sounds a bit... sellout.
I always appreciated CC because they used to explain very simply complex ideas about the best tools available, without focusing on a specific service.
This video looks more of a commercial than of an informative guide.
I like this style and the content is good, however, if I didn't know anything about SharePoint I'd come away thinking it was a document management system and obviously there's a lot more than that.
