  • @LTEpic bamboo had a variety of species and taste different...

  • food in japan unbelieveble blowfish ect

  • Thank you for the upload. I learned something new and helpful.

  • I thought japan was completely paved over with concrete and metal until I saw this, haha

  • Your videos are always inspirational. I've visited many places and seem to have walked most of my native Wales and England, but your videos always make me want to spend a great deal of time in Japan. Thanks.

  • @vaudevilleUK Thank you for your nice words. Your own walks sound wonderful! I hope that you have a chance to visit and explore in other parts of the world which catch your interest. Have a great day! ~Kurt :-)

  • My parents planted bamboo in our back yard and now its all over the back. The good thing is we eat bamboo shoot constantly.

  • It's a little different from where we used to live. We often wait until the bamboo grow above the ground to collect, but I guess it would be better this way because the shoots are probably softer.

  • Great video. Thank you.

  • Yeah, collecting wild foods is great fun, can't wait for this summer's harvest of plants and berry's!

  • This is great. I love collecting wild foods.

I was wondering how deep they are going. Do you hit the main root and thats when you split it off?

  • @marblemill We typically dig far enough down to make a good cut into the lower section of the plant. There seems to be a bit of an art to doing this well and many older men in our area are very fast and accurate. I'm always making a bad cut. -Kurt :-)

  • great video - very well tended bamboo grove by the look of it. With the rain we've had this summer, next spring could be a bumper harvest - found my first one yesterday...Good luck.

  • wow your videos are great! I would really like to live in the mountains of japan. But im only 16 so I will have to wait...

  • Hello Makrillol, Thank you for your nice words. I hope you have many chances to explore and discover when you come to Japan. Please let me know if you ever have any questions. -Kurt :-)

  • Nyoki nyoki!

  • Thanks for the video, I always wanted to know how the shoots are harvested. I always thought the shoots are connected to the taller giant bamboo tree.

  • My best favorite is "Shina-chiku" pickled bamboo shoot used in ramen.

  • Who owns the bamboo forest property? Do they allow anyone to just go up there and pick them? Thanks for sharing your awesome video.

  • Hello kitme, This bamboo forest is owned by our family friends who live next to the forest. -Kurt :-)

  • your videos are awesome!

  • so cool

  • I enjoy your videos. Would you be able to video the process of making and broom from bamboo? The entire process if possible. From collecting and cleaning the branches to the assembly. These skills would be handy now in the USA as we now have some bamboo available to us. My Moso grove is 22 years old. I have plenty of material to learn and make mistakes with. Thank you.

  • Thanks for the suggestion. I would certainly like to make such a video and will try to do so if I meet someone here in Japan with these skills. Thank you for sharing this excellent idea! -Kurt :-)

  • I absolutely LOVE takenoko (slow-cooked in a vegetable stew!!) I was born and raised in Japan, but I had NEVER heard of, seen much less eaten takenoko tempura!! It's GOTTA be a regional thing...

  • I'm eating some bamboo shoots right now... And was curious to see how the shoots were harvest... Thanks for the video, it's EXCELLENT :)

  • Excellent video!! I like how you show how to dig up the Takenoko bamboo shoots, clean them, and end with the yummy feast. 5*!!

  • loved the video! i'm eating boiled bamboo with soy sauce right now. My japanese mum got them from her home town in the country side of Okayama prefecture. I really love them!I appreciate them even more now that I know how much trouble it is to get them!

  • Loved the video. We recently went and havested some Takenoko in Kameyama Japan. Good job on the video!!

  • I read somewhere that that bamboo shoots feature in woodblock prints so frequently due to its use in everyday life that it is essential for day life.. I really didnt know that it would be used for tempura.

  • Loved your video! Very interesting. Reminds me of an Easter Egg hunt, except yours is super healthy.

  • She's almost big enough for the basket! I hope I'm able to try it so fresh one day, it looks delicious.

Can't wait for the tea!! :)

    ~Kat
