  • When buying the camera, does it include everything, or, are there a few things that you'd have to purchased separately?!

  • it's a nice video thanks for sharing .. do you know if a 7D camera is better than 5D or 5D is better , I almost see they are same quality but 5D is more shallow and needs many accessories .. I want to buy one and am confused between both of them , what do you recommend ?

  • Whats that song?

  • this is awesome ... check my video shot in india

canon 7d with 50 mm 1.4 and 17-40 4.0 L and 70-300 canon lenses handheld and without lights

the only lights used were basic tungsten bulbs

  • I swear its film.

  • In the moment to export the video, how did you do? I mean...what kind of file did you do? mov? you know, the final result,

  • how i get this cinema look lines? ( in fcp)

  • 360p!?!

  • the song is so epic =)

    eargasm

  • the 7d makes everyone in the wold look beautiful

  • is the microphone doing well with this camera ?

    Peter

  • @creatinside @creatinside Hi, I have been working with the 550D and Premiere, and it works fine. Just make sure you got quicktime codecs installed since it produces .MOV-files. Takes forever to encode though ' cause of the highly compressed fileformat.

  • hey can you please tell me... how is the audio recording in this camera??

and can we attach external microphone to it?

  • best example using the 60mm macro! i was planning on buying the 50mm 1.4 for portrait and then buy the 60mm macro for macro shots when shooting video. but i se e now that i can get 2 for one with the 60mm macro. the low light is great as well with the 60mm awsome!

  • @creatinside Just make sure you install quicktime before you open premiere. I haven't had any problems other than that yet.

  • this camera is great but is cannon?

    what is the song name?

  • what song is this?

  • @roncharles Magic Spells by Crystal Castles

  • Beautiful! One of the best 7D video that I ever seen

  • Awesome video! This inspired me to get a 7D.

You said you put 50p clips on a 25p time line preset. Can you help me understand what this means? I want to make this same effect.

  • The subway was perfect for demonstrating the focus capabilities of this camera. I was stuck using my gf's Canon T1i for my only source of HD footage and the focus was difficult to say the least. You have some really amazing shots in this. My favorite has to be shot of the surfer that turns into a close up of the younger male. Really perfect. Thanks for the demonstration, I can't wait to open the box of my 7d!

  • if this is a HD test, why did you upload the video in only 360p???

  • omg! This is really good, I enjoyed it alot :D Loved the clips, the music.. just like how you made the video. *thumbs up*

  • @creatinside there is no problems importing footage to premiere pro - I have a 7d and I use premiere to edit my footage. =]

  • hey does the 7d have a built-in mic?

  • i love it ....this is why i stackin' up for mine right now. keep up the good work!

  • Really nice!!

Im using a 7D and editing with final cut also. Is it the same to convert the full project tu apple proress 422 codec when you export it or do you hace to convert each file before you import them? Thanks

  • nice grading

  • Damn nice camera I want to buy 7D DSLR is so much better And Cheaper Then buying a 35mm adapter for your camcorder But still eos 7D cost look of money

Do you re come this Camera for film makers ?

Because Im using a canon HG20 works fine but I want Better quality

And people are Saying Noo you need to Go DSLR Much better

So what do you think ?

  • whats the name of the song you used for this project

  • I see that you use FCP as well. When importing clips into FCP from the 7D is it automatically set to widescreen? Or did you manually adjust it? I want to be able to get rid of the black bars but I'm unsure how to do so. Much thanks.

  • can this camera work with out a lens because i am getting one but the place were i am getting the camera does not have a lens that will fit on it because they "don't sell canons" not including the 7d. so any ways i have to go to the city to get one or order online for one and i will be needing the camera before that.

  • what is this song called?

  • ha, das sieht doch nach englischem garten aus :D

  • beautiful visulas, something very lost in translation about the whole thing.

  • good song choice

  • congrats

one of the best videos on youtube to date.

cant wait to get my 7d this week hopefully

  • good focusing

  • Nikon is stuffed! This footage says it all.

  • The h264 codec is a delivery format and most computers do not like dealing with it. H264 is compressed and to edit the footage smoothly it is wise to transcode it to prores or something like that. You can use compressor or mpeg streamclip. Btw nice video I think you had a good subject to follow and film!!

  • @creatinside

you can use Pinnacle HD Ultimate Collection - Not trans-coding needed. It works for me (its PC too).

  • Fuckin AWESOME!!! Thx for posting. I just got mine one this monday April 5, 2010. Trying to get a look like this. Will probably have some questions that have not been answered. Thx again.

  • i love this cam!! excellent job!! cheers from Houston TX! what instramental did you use? i love it

  • I'm working with finalcut pro studio and grade with magic bullet looks builder (wich's work with FCP).

    And i'm sorry but i don't know a thing about Premiere :-(

  • @juliendemond excuse me, nICE vid by the way, but what is "grading"?

  • Does the 7D HD footage import well into Sony Vegas? Also, how are the settings for filming on the 7D? Are they confusing and daunting or are they user friendly? I am looking to buy a 7D and I learn as I go.

  • Hey, sorry for responding so late...

The 7D produces H.264 codec movies. It's great for visualising on a computer (.mov) but awfull for working with. IT IS NOT a compression you wana use to edit. You must convert your files in PRORES (if you work on a MAC as i do). And regarding the format, you can choose between 1080i (24,25,30 fps) or 720p (24,50,60 fps) HD mode.

    Cheers ;-)

  • @juliendemond Why is the H.264 codec awful to work with? What specs do I put it in from FCE to render best quality video? Would love the feedback. Thanks.

  • @juliendemond how do you convert using compressor!? Thanks :)

  • Is it easy to check the histogram on your 7D while in video mode? Really great shots, to say the least.

I'd like to see what you could do with actors.

  • You can easely check your histogram in Play mode and i would love to see what i can do with actors too ! ;-)

I'm working on writting a script now (wich is a total different job) and i hope to come up with something soon ;-)

  • nice

  • sound is good

  • the video is shaking so much, I ma in the video stuff, love the camera feature, but its not a replacement of a real camcorder at all. It lacks super steady shoot, its juts good for small 1 minute videos. Real video can be done with a video camera only.. Love canon, Sony and Nikon, products

  • @cristihutan i think you can make professional looking video with 5dmk2 or 7d but really you need a steadicam or some other stabilisation.

  • If you read the video info you would have seen that i said that it was shaking too much with a 60 macro mm lense with no stabilizer. If you went to my profile you would have seen my other tests with stabilized lenses and you would have seen how it's steady.

And to conclude i won't argue with you about the proffessional aspect of the camera. Go on vimeo whatever youtube and look all the short film made with those dslr and we'll talk again. I used to have a HVX 200 and i don't miss it...

  • Thanks for info. I will try myself, and see what can be done, I would love to have two professional features in only one camera. I bet in the near future they will make better video in dslr, its a matter of time, probably 2 years or so.

Sometimes its way easier, to have both options in one item, still a dedicated Hd, camcorder, its made for steady shooting and better quality. I just wanted to underline that it will take a bit time to have both picture and video in one Camera, in its best :)

  • @cristihutan thats pretty interesting that you say that seeing that allot of mainstream music videos are being shot on this camera & the 5d & RED

  • @cristihutan

The shaking can be easily be solved with stabilizers. This camera is already being used for short films and music videos. The music video for "Bully" directed by David Dutton is a good example.

  • Canon 4 ever , Munich too ! I also got the 7d as my second one. Great Vid.

  • Hey fellas,

I just put online a new 7D video i made.

It's a music video this time more broadcast than my tests.

    Check this out.

    Cheers !

  • are you using manual focus?

and have you recorded with sound ?

  • There is no auto focus in video mode with those dslr. Old school way, cinema way. Everything is manual and that's the beauty of it ;-)

  • i recorded the sound with the default internal mic. If i have to record the sound properly i would use a ZOOM H4N

  • Nice !

is it filmed with a shoulder mount? or is it handheld?

  • Handheld.

That's why it shakes a little. Especially with a 60mm (on a 7D it makes a 96mm) with no stabilizer. It's the reason why i have a 17-55mm with a stabilizer now. You can move and make handle shots as if it was a real kind of heavy camera ;-)

  • Wow. This is entirely shot with the 60mm? Amazing. Is it the 60 mm EF S?

Was thinking about a prosumer video cam, but after seeing the 7D and 5D videos I think I will give it a try - especially also because we can use all our existing EF lenses. Quite a treat!

Great takes, but the music, however, I find annoying. Sorry folks. It's all a matter of taste.

  • It's the EF-S and entirely shot with it. But now i'm working with a canon 17-55mm 1:2.8 IS EF-S and a sigma 30mm 1:1.4 lense.

  • Geile Musik!

Ich kauf mir auch bald eine 7D allerdings mit einem 70-200 IS 2.8 Objektiv

  • music is cool!

  • Crystal castles :))

oh and btw this is amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nice work, but I must say I'm loving the music even more.

  • i got the 7d yesterday

now i gotta celebrate it lol

  • thats it.. im getting a 7D next week...

i really see no reason spending 8000 for a sony ex3

  • I was saving for EX3, but seeing these footages I figured 7D is a better choice. I mean in my opinion for those who film long projects and multiple cameras EX3 is still a good option, but short films, ads, music videos and etc with lower budgets can easily turn into this canon revolution.

  • NEW 7D VIDEO TEST ON MY PROFILE !

    Enjoy

  • Great work on the surfing footage, with the focusing as well.

  • This is a test? It looks more like a professional commercial to me.

  • Hahahaha thanks. I take it as a compliment ;-)

But it's really a test and most of it my first day of shouting with the 7d ! But i'm shouting and editiing videos for years now ! I guess that's why ;-)

Anyway, i'm putting online a new video i made with the 7D and new lenses shot on a island in france.

Go check it and tell me what you think.

    Cheers

  • I'm picking up a 7d this week - seeing as how I'm completely splurging to make this purchase, I was told that the standard canon lens that is the basic 'package' (a 30 - 120mm) would be fine... Should I be worried about any potential jeopardy of quality?

  • Hey,

I don't know from what country you are from and where you gonna by it but here in france the lens you get with is a Canon EF-S IS 18 -135 mm f/3.5 - 5.6 wich is of course some lenses from the basics series.

If you got the budget i encourage you to just by the body and buy a better quality lens after.

For the 7D i just can't stop saying how good and polyvalent the 17 - 55 mm 1:2.8 IS lens is.

But for started, if you don't have the budget, i'm sure the lens is gona be ok. ;-)

  • What lens do you prefer?

  • The 30mm 1:1.4 because of the luminosity and the small focus range.

But the 17-55mm 1:2.8 IS is easyer to manage and more polyvalent.

  • I would go for the ef-s 17-85mm, has a nice wide angle and e decent zoom range.

  • Oh! I should have looked into your channel before asking. You know what, I kind of like the natural shake of non IS lenses in subtle cases like your video. It gives it an organic feel. I realy liked the result, especially the shot of the grass with a narrow depth of field around 0:35 .

  • Excellent vid, I have that lens... The HD video on the 7D is one of it's stand out quality's. The HD on the 7D and 5D will become iconic in time in my opinion - the way both camera's capture certain scene's is a future classic.

When the 10D, or 6D are released people will be wanting 7D and 5D MKII's for their vintage quality. (maybe.....;-))

  • no you have not seeing nothing yet into you see the new scarlet from red now us film guys can film now for the big screen lol

  • how did you convert the 50p to 25p

  • It's not a slow motion 50 to 25p.

If you whant to make a slow motion the easyest way for me is by using cinema tools.

Here, i just put my 50p clips in a 25p time line preset.

    Voilà.

  • Your right ,.. the end effect is amazing. The video absolutely has a vintage quality to it ... whatever that means. It definitely evokes another time and not at all something from the present.

    Really nice work ...

    Good call w/the music.. ;)

  • what software did you use in post production?

    great video

    cheers

  • Thanks !

Final Cut Pro 6 for the edit, some internal plugins to calibrate the frame and a natress film effect plugin for the bleach and grain cine look ;-)

  • Great video. I hope to make videos somedaY. Inspirational!

  • juliendemond OMG! I just bought this camera, not even a week ago. I'm a novice and will start a photography class next week. I'm soooo excited about taking pictures and you video has made me excited about getting familiar with the video aspect too! Thanks girl!...or boy...

  • Every new user is gonna be someone happy. I'm glad that my videos are gonna make you work on the video mode (which is amazing again on this camera).

Julien is a boy french name ;-)

  • shutter looks pretty high

  • Indeed, i wanted to keep my lens open (2.8) so under the sun i had to put the ISO very low and the shutter pretty high.

  • Nice Video! What software did you use for edting. I've tried both sony vegas and primere pro. Not decided what to choose yet...

  • I work with Final Cut pro studio 6.....

    Apple way of life ;-)

  • I just put online a video test in HD 1080i with a 17-55mm 1:2.8 IS lens in lowlights shots. Go check it on my profile !

  • How does the compression look?

Is there any artifacts in certain low light or light variations?

Thanks for the footage, looks great!

  • I have to admet that in the interpretation of blur the compression is not as good as with the 5D. But you see that only if you really look at it from a professional eye. Globally it's really ok. And the compression in low light with a high ISO is incredible. You can see on dark with really less grain. The interpretation of colors is really nice too.

I'm more and more satisfied by this device every day ;-)

  • I had a bad reaction with a flash or strobe light in a party test shooting (you have to adjust the shutter...). But what camera does not ? ;-)

  • Hahaha this track is amazing.

    Magic spells by Crystal Castles

  • @ chingvang559

I also read that the recording format of the D90 is the MOTION JPEG which is not the easyest format to work with. I don't know the frame rates of the D90 but the 7D goes from PAL to NTSC, from interlaced (50) to de-interlaced (25) to 24fps even for commercial movies if you need. You don't have a FULL HD mode on the D90 and i'm not sure that the video mode can run completely in manual. That's why the 7D is expensive but also a professional device.

  • @chingvang559

By better do you mean faster ? I don't know the D90 but in terms of speed the 7D goes from 60 to 4000 in shutter speed and you won't probably see it well because of the bad youtube compression but for the surfers shots i made i was ina high speed (to stay open at 2.8) and you really can see every single drops of water in the air. So i don't know if it's really better but i do know that's amazing. Hope it's gonna help you. Cheers.

  • Well the answer is quiet simple.... My budget ! ! !

I couldn't afford the 5D considering that i wanted to buy a good lens as weel (just got a 17-55mm f/2.8 USM).

And for what i'm doing the quality of the 7D is still amazing. I have an HVX-200 if i need to make something in real DVCPRO HD.

Here it's more about having real lenses with a good quality in your bag ! ! ! !

I will post some tests with the 17-55mm. With the image stabilizer there won't be any shakes, i can't wait to see the result ;-)

  • I want the 7D and need a serious answer. Is the 7D rolling shutter that much better compared to the D90's, to be worth twice the money? Because I do want the 7D for the video function, so do you think the D90 comes close for $1000 less?

  • check the others videos taken with D90. they obviously are not as good as 5D/7D. but they are still not bad and could be good enough for your needs.

  • The short answer is yes. It is worth the price difference.

The long answer is, this is not a fair comparison. The 7D is comparable to the D300s, not the D90. If you are considering the D90 and want to compare to Canon, you need to compare the T1i. I think that is a more equal comparison for features and price.

At the end of the day I think the 7D is better than both the D300s and the D90.

  • Yea, the D90 jello is way to bad. I mean just vibrations give it jello. I'm not trying to make money with the camera, just document my family's life. We also go on lots of trips with lots of action, hiking so the D90 wouldn't do as well. So my answer is, save twice the money for a 7D

  • Thanks for those kind words. I'm amazed by the quality of those frames everytime i'm watching them even if i've seen it 100000 times.

Don't hesitate on having this device. It's just incredible.

  • I am curious to know what your reasons have been to go for a camera with a crop sensor instead of a full size 35mm chip, as for instance the 5D Mark II?

  • you did really well in capturing light and movements, you seem to have nice sense how to arrange a scene. Like in particular how you sneakliy watched people in the underground. Congrats to your great camera, I think I'll be a victim of this device pretty soon...
