Shalom sis and thank you! For all my daughters I use a little bit of baking soda for washing it (called a "no-poo" wash) and either almond oil or extra virgin olive oil. I usually add a drop or two off lavendar or tea tree essential oil to the oil before lightly applying it.

My youngest daughter I only do this with maybe once a month...all other times are just water washes and finger combings.

Looking in a wooded area near you is great if it is far away from commercial traffic and building sites and if you have experience with identifying herbs in the wild.

Other than that, I'd recommend your local health food store. That's where I pick up my herbs. They sell them in loose bulk...so I just pick up what I need when I need it.

As for stool softners, if you're daughter is experiencing constipation or great difficulty passing stools, you really need to look at the root of the problem which would be her diet, moreso than looking for a herb to soften her stool.

Even though herbs have great medicinal properties, we don't want our approach to utilizing them to be the same as the system has taught us to use drug medications..."treat the symptom and not the root cause"...

Slipery elm bark has healed my ulcers 2 times. Make some tea ( its like drinking plain jelly- YUCK! lol ) I added some aloe vera juice *and apple juice to improve the taste*, but in two weeks I could eat without throwing up! All the meds the Dr's tried to have me on made me sicker. NOTHING healed my ulcers until I went to a herbal store who had native Indian books based in ancient healing. His books were hand written and fragile, dusty and very old. All praises due The Most High!!

Yes, that slippery elm is excellent! I just add a little agave nectar to it or a little maple syrup...but I've found the taste to be rather nice...the texture a bit on the icky side if using alot of it, but not too bad at least for us anyway...lol.
