I personally would have told them I have a gun and that the police are coming: how did she know the other guy didn't have a gun and might start shooting too? To me that would have been the bigger risk. If they knew the police were coming and that the occupant had a gun they probably would have just left which would have been the safest option for her and her baby.
Still, she probably didn't have time to think it through.

When your life and your baby's life are threatened, you may not have time to calmly think things through and just give the home invaders a warning. Some friends of mine tested various ammo against a US Army kevlar helmet. I wasn't there for it but they said the 9mm was the hottest thing it stopped. I myself saw some holes their AR-15 put in it and it wasn't pretty. I'd hate for that to be the only thing between 12 gauge buck shot and my head.

The moment someone enters your home without permission they're fair game. In CA you have to believe your life is in danger. CA law demonstrates why others have castle law. As long as the person was trying to illegally enter the residence the resident has the legal right to use deadly force to stop the entry. The OK law states that the person attempting to make illegal entry is "presumed to be doing so with the intent to commit an unlawful act involving force or violence."

@generaldeejee Shotguns are a great choice against body armor because they are good about getting around it and produce enough shock to drop you even if your body armor stops it.
Some friends of mine tested various ammo against a US Army kevlar helmet. I wasn't there for it but they said the 9mm was the hottest thing it stopped. I myself saw some holes their AR-15 put in it and it wasn't pretty. I'd hate for that to be the only thing between 12 gauge buck shot and my head.
