I noticed that the canon HF20 defaults the video format to 60i. When changing it to 24F which canon uses AVCHD, I noticed that a lot of video editing software such as iMovie doesn't support this when trying to import the video. My question is what format do you use (60i, pf24, pf30, or 24F) and what video editing software do you use?
@PeterJuliaLandis I use 24F for most of my videos and I can import through iMovie just fine. The modes you can record in have nothing to do the the AVCHD format, they are just different mode types available. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I have been able to successfully import both 60i and 24F...pf30 etc. through iMovie. I made a how-to video on how to import the video as well. :)
@RobertSmith3 When setting the frame rate to 24F it states "Cannot convert scenes from HD to SD that were recorded with this frame rate". Not sure what that means. Well when I import video following your steps in the how-to iMovie, the video that was recorded in 24F shows a "no 24P" support in the iMovie import. All other video formats work just fine when importing into iMovie.

@PeterJuliaLandis I noticed that you are using a Canon HFS20 and not a Canon HF20 which I have and what I used in the tutorial. I know the camcorders are like brother and sister so it really shouldn't matter, but is something to consider. I'm not sure why I'm not having these issues, but I'd recommending bringing it up in a camcorder related forum. Good luck!
@RobertSmith3 I was told that iMovie 09 removed 24F support and in iMovie 08 it was supported. What version of iMovie are you using? Supposedly iMove 11 supports 24fps so I'm hoping this resolves the issue.
i got it, and when i upload the videos on my computer onto image mixer it sucks, so i just got adobe today and i hope it converts it in to HD, what do u use?
when i film with it.. it says the resolution is 720 by 500 and something it says it records in 1920 by 1080 i think but how do i make the resolution bigger? what settings do i change?
Hey, Thanks for the Videos regarding the Canon HF20 very helpful! I just purschached one to capture skating. I have some Test footy up but dont know how to put it in HD! Do i need to download the Transfer Utilities Disk to upload videos to my computer?
I heard that if you have windows Vista it doesn't recognize the file type? The mts I believe it said... I want to upload videos to youtube w/ this camcorder but I don't want to get it if I can't use it with Vista. Thanks so much.
well what i mean is when i try to upload the videos to my computer through my camrea nothing pops up or says anything. nothing is being stored or anything like that. it just wont connect at all.
What exactly do you need help with or having trouble with as you said your having problems uploading videos, but are you have a problem connecting the camcorder to the PC and finding where the videos are stored..or..? Just need a bit more information there.
hey Rob, i just go my canon vixia hf20 today and i have no idea how to charge the battery for it. i know it sounds like a retarded question but can u please help? or anyone out there?
i'm not sure I quite understand, since the camcorder comes with the battery inserted inside the slot. Are you saying you do not know how to eject the battery from the camcorder, or are you trying to find other batteries you can use that have longer battery life?
While the battery is inside the camcorder, just hook up the power supply to the camcorder and you will see a Red light blinking to indicate it is charging.
I also recommend reading through the manual to understand how the camcorder operates.
thanks ! also i made an unboxing and i had to make a part 2 and i didnt want to unwrap all the packaging . thank you so much man ! your a great help. 5 stars and ill subscribe : )
Hey Robert. Patrick Samos here. I have a request. Can you do a semi-advanced video on how you add your graphics to your videos and frame changes, the animation, how you fade frames, and cut and paste different pieces of footage together to make your videos? That would be awesome. Thanks.
I'm not sure when I'll get to it since my videos consist of more than just the canon videos (some are solar related, music compositions, etc.), but it will be soon.
Currently the main program I use is iMovie, so until I learn more about Sony Vegas, the first one I'll do will be based off iMovie.
Yeah I was going to go to BestBuy but didn't want to stand in the HUGE line I knew would be out there for this camcorder. But yeah, congrats on that!
The editing software I used is iMovie on my macbook. Most people use PC's and I hear they use one of the Sony editing softwares, I believe it's the one you mentioned. Not a bad deal, I may have to jump on that :)

lynchy8888 2 years ago
your question does not make any sense it only records 1920 by 1080 it doesn't do 720 by 500. there is no setting for this.

I lucked out and picked up my HF20 for $499 on Black Friday sale at BestBuy. Looking forward to your future videos.
What editing software do you use? I'm looking to buy Sony Vegas Platinum Pro bundle. Amazon.c om has it for $59.99 now with free shipping.
Thanks
