Yeah!! John wrote this song and thought it'd be perfect for Ringo to sing.
I'm too busy digging George's lead anyway. Actually George makes the supposedly weaker tune "What Goes On" , with a bunch of slick Carl Perkins - Scotty Moore - James Burton rockabilly licks on the former and the volume swells adding color to the latter.
Hey guys, I'm 15 and if you have any spare time please check out my guitar covers on my channel. It sucks advertising like this but it's the only way to get exposure thanks if you check them out :)
I love the Beatles and I like Ringo. He is very nice. I wish that I can carry a picture of Ringo Starr. I like What Goes On because it is fun song. He is happy and smile
Why all the praise for Ringo? John Lennon wrote this little ditty in a nice simple key so that ringo could sing a song. ringo didn't write it and if drum machines had been around then they wouldn't have had to put up with this hack.
Ringo might not have contributed as the other musically, but all the other Beatles loved him as a friend and he was as much a Beatle as everyone else. That's not me talking, that's the other three Beatles.
@hansupgwai Why all the hate for Ringo? The original form of this song was a ditty that John wrote during his early Quarryman days, he and Macca filled the song out a bit more in '65 and then Ringo came up with the lyrics. Ringo was a better-than-decent rock drummer. In one of his final interviews, John said that back in his pre-Beatle days, Ringo had a following when drummed for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes. Already, then, it was Ringo Starrtime. His mates knew it.

@hansupgwai Actually, John wrote this little ditty in his early Quarryman days, and he and Macca filled it out in '65; Ringo added the lyrics. He's got a songwriting credit for it. As for Ringo himself, he was a better-than-decent rock drummer. His mates knew it. In one of John's last interviews he said that Ringo had a fan following during his Rory Storm and the Hurricane days. It was already "Ringo Starrtime" back then.
I used to think of no one else, but you were just the same. You didn't even think of me as someone with a name. Did you mean to break my heart and watch me die? Tell me why.
[An old, unfinished song from the early Beatle days dusted off late in the Rubber Soul sessions as a Starr vehicle. It became a likable country trifle with a first-time songwriting credit for Starr, who came up with some of the lyrics. Asked in 1966 what he contributed to the song, Starr replied, "About five words."]
Haha, it's so funny how people are so happy for Ringo just when he sings. He only co-wrote this song; with help from John and Paul. He never liked singing or writing songs, though the others always encouraged him to do so. Everyone always thinks that Ringo made loads of material that the other Beatles didn't produce because they thought it was lame. Not true!!
What? "Yesterday" and "For No One" were Paul's, and "No Reply" was John's. I don't think Ringo got anything else depressing. "Act Naturally" and maybe "Don't Pass me By" for breakup songs but the first is too lighthearted to be depressing and I never understood the last verse of the second and both have very cheery beats.
i like that at about 1:38 or so you can hear John very faintly saying "we already told you why" in response to Ringo singing the line "tell me why", which is a reference to the song "Tell Me Why"
@ColdOasisU2 : "Bring it all back home" and "Highway 61 Revisited" were released months before, and The Birds had already released 3 of there 4 albums ..
Who knew Ringo could sing so well? Me. :D YAY, Ringo! I used to think some random dude wrote Octopus' Garden named Richard Starkey. I thought, He's not even in the Beatles. I found out today how stupid I am.

Every great group needs a Ringo, ie, a guy who's talented but willing to put his star in a shoebox and let the other egos shine a bit...
Ringo was the glue, great to see him get a chance to shine here! :)
