I love it when they take a piece of music like the background music for this one and make a beautiful song out of it, it gives the music so much more meaning when you go back and watch the film to remember that a beautiful song was inspired by the instrumental music. :)
Heather Headley is the standard by which I judge all other renditions, including my own. The girl I saw in London a few years back wasn't so good, I could barely hear her up in the gods, even with a microphone.
I love this song. The movie didn't really go into what Nala had to have gone through decidign to go look for help. This really does her justice! *goosebumps!*
In the movie of The Lion King I've always loved hearing the background music to this song and now to hear it with added lyrics in it. I practically was about to shed actual tears it really got to me for I love that music soooooo much and it just sounded so powerful and never once have I ever was about to get to tears because of how powerful and beautiful a song is never once and that is saying a lot!
@emothebandgeek I did some looking around, and I would say the only way you're going to get a hold of the information you want is to find a copy of the script or by ear. I took a look around for the script as well, but I can't find it legal or otherwise.
:) I remember back in the early 2000's. I was 4 or 5 when my mom and I saw this in Los Angeles. Man, I still have the CD we bought of the soundtrack! 10 years later I still can't get enough of it!
@Rozax I agree with you 100%, but I think it's because they already animated The Morning Report for the original film and had to take it out back then, whereas to include this song, they would have to go back in and animate new scenes, etc.
@Rozax You mean in the Special Edition version of the movie?
Because Morning Report was already animated and was deleted from the original version of the film. They'd have to animate an entire new scene if they put this song in (which takes a lot of work/time :P).
@ToxicJoon Actually, if I remember correctly, that was fresh animation; they had the song already sung for the most part, but the animation and Simba's song was new (which is why Simba's animated parts looked different than the rest of the film).
The reason they put it in was because it was originally written to be in the movie back when they were first making it; whereas the songs from broadway were made after.
@GellyfishProductions Yes, Nala's story makes a LOT more sense with the inclusion of this song. It's also a nice song for altos and it blows other "princess" songs out of the water. It's a song about the love and devotion she has for her family; not some whimsical crush on some chump she's known for two minutes.
@GellyfishProductions Actually Jeff Bennett sung Morning Report in the movie and not Rowan Atkinson. Atkinson did sing his own parts in I Just Can't Wait To Be King though.
@Rozax Y'know, while I agree that "Morning Report" was probably the last song I would've chosen for the Special Edition (no, wait, that would be "Chow Down"), at least Morning Report is catchy and has some pretty clever lyrics. That's more than, say, "Hakuna Matata" can say.
Dear GOD, do I hate Hakuna Matata. Yeah yeah, I know that means I have no heart and am going to hell or whatever, but I find the song unbelievably annoying.
This musical is so well written! THE MUSIC IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT. The only show that has EVERY single song that gives me chills down my spine. I cant even describe what it was like seeing it in London. I was BREATH TAKEN! I remember a lot of it and it was 3 years ago! It has SOO much African culture in it as well. GREATEST SHOW EVER! Wicked doesnt even beat this one. Neither does Les Miserables, and that is saying something! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
I saw it three day ago at New-York and it was the best Musical ever!!! I fucking love it!!! Actors are incredible and the show...NO WORD CAN EXPLAIN MY FEELINGS! IT WAS GORGEOUS!
I love this musical so much. It was my first time in new york, and my first time at a broadway musical. IT MOVED ME! I saw it last night (8/18) and it changed my life. X)
Saw this twice last week while visiting in NY... the cast is so nice! The second time, Tsidi (Rafiki) gave us a backstage tour! Gareth (Scar) is very nice too!
my family and I went to Laughlin for a week and we decided to make the 2 hr drive to Vegas and go see the show b4 it left....it was so AMAZING!!! my goodness I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time and cried during the opening number b/c it was so beautiful and during mufasa's death cuz it was so sad....it is a FANTASTIC show and if you are from SoCal go see it in Vegas b4 it leaves you will not regret it....WOW!!!! oh and this number is breathtaking when seen live on stage =D
I saw this today in Vegas. Since the time I have seen it in London (almost 9 years ago), I have yet again been amazed at the dedication, the talent, the choreography, EVERYTHING about this musical was beyond belief. I feel that because of this, I would have no problem watching this performed over and over again. I myself want to audition for this outstanding musical, as well as others. I want to extend my thanks to all of the performers and orchestra and producers for making this musical! :)
i saw this on broadway years ago and i really havent listened to the music since. so i had this playing in the background while i was doing other things and suddenly just stopped everything i was doing.
i completely forgot how AMAZING the music of this show is. esp. 2:43
@17DefyingGravity Yes I have seen it twice and I can't wait for a 3rd time. There is so many effects, you don't recall them all. And even the 2nd time seems like the 1st. When Mufassa ses "Look at the stars" to Simba. Sit in the stalls, then look at the ceiling theres a wonderful suprise.
@evilgalorereturns Aww i no !! it was just such a wonderful feel good performance! I no was front row of the stalls could see the stars above :) it was quite spectacular. My favourite number was by far HSadowland becasue it was so emotional and moving :) i loved scar and the hyeenas and their song - the scenery looked amazing!!
my family went to see this when i was really little and i still remember what it was like to sit and watch such and awesome thing like a well done play. that completely takes you into the story. even if i cant remember the musical its self as a whole.
could u both stop wasting the space for comments here? there's nearly an entire page with your useless speach....while this is such a beautifull song.... ♥♥♥♥
I love this song so so so much. We sung it with the Young Americans, and now I'm singing it in my singing group. The harmonies are just so tight and beautiful, it's my dream to one day see this on Broadway. Or better yet, be in it!! :O

@MyWorldIsPurple You don't "try" to be pretentious, moron. You either are being or you aren't, no one tries to be pretentious. That's like trying to be a fucking idiot, like you. By the way, using the word "motif" shows that you only have a very vague idea of what you're talking about. Look it up online if you want. There's nothing I said that isn't true.
@MyWorldIsPurple No. I grew up with Lebo M's album Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Lea Halalela was a song I listened to from the time I was 4 years old and has always been very spiritually significant to me. When I heard this melody, I thought it was important to honour that.
Ugly people see ugly things. You're a nasty person, so you'll breath nasty meaning into what is beautiful to me. You'll see a show off because you ARE a show off. You'll see ugliness because you ARE ugly. That's not my problem.
@Sei1863 Oh. My. God. You're being pretentious -again-. One person said how much they love the song, you get all up your own arse saying "omg actually this is an adapted song". Everyone knows that, you're not special.
@MyWorldIsPurple Not everyone knows that. Face it, you've lost. You're an ugly, vicious person who sees ugly, vicious things. You're the one who's not special; I never claimed to be. You're a lonely child talking to themselves in the dark.
@Sei1863 Yes, I'm ugly and vicios. Or not. And when did I say anything was ugly or vicious? I saw the beauty another user was trying to talk about when you attempted to crush them. Eugh.
This song is powerful. I went to see the Lion King on Broadway when I was little, but I didn't remember it when my friend mentioned it earlier today. So I listened to it, and the memory just came rushing back. Amazing song.
Singing this in Choir! When my teacher said we were gonna sing this for competition.. i was like "YESSSS!'

Why couldn't they rewrite this song for the special edition? Why did they have to put that stupid "Morning Report" in, instead?
Rozax 5 months ago 110
@Rozax I agree with you 100%, but I think it's because they already animated The Morning Report for the original film and had to take it out back then, whereas to include this song, they would have to go back in and animate new scenes, etc.

@Rozax Thank you....this song adds so much substance. The Morning Report...what an unnecessary drag!

Because Morning Report was already animated and was deleted from the original version of the film. They'd have to animate an entire new scene if they put this song in (which takes a lot of work/time :P).

Sei1863 10 months ago
@Sei1863 I didn't say that it wasn't true. You just picked a random comment to try to show off. Get your head out your arse.

MyWorldIsPurple 10 months ago
@MyWorldIsPurple Not everyone knows that. Face it, you've lost. You're an ugly, vicious person who sees ugly, vicious things. You're the one who's not special; I never claimed to be. You're a lonely child talking to themselves in the dark.

@Sei1863 Yes, I'm ugly and vicios. Or not. And when did I say anything was ugly or vicious? I saw the beauty another user was trying to talk about when you attempted to crush them. Eugh.

I got this solo for the choral version in high school. We went a bit faster, but I think both versions are gorgeous.

The instrumental was Mufasa's death theme in the '94 film

I always get sniffly when this part plays w/o vocals in the movie version...

At the beginning, just while the choir is singing, it reminds me of something from Brother Bear, for some reason...
But such a brilliant song!

I love this song! It's so powerful, the singing, the instruments, the choir. 5 people are either stupid or deaf.

This song is powerful. I went to see the Lion King on Broadway when I was little, but I didn't remember it when my friend mentioned it earlier today. So I listened to it, and the memory just came rushing back. Amazing song.
