  • Singing this in Choir! When my teacher said we were gonna sing this for competition.. i was like "YESSSS!'

  • I love it when they take a piece of music like the background music for this one and make a beautiful song out of it, it gives the music so much more meaning when you go back and watch the film to remember that a beautiful song was inspired by the instrumental music. :)

  • Ahhhhhhhh goosebumps... :D love this soundtrack. Probably my favourite Disney soundtrack...

  • doing this in show choir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • My favorite song from the musical!!!!!!!! God, it was awesome!

  • this was the most beautiful musical i have ever seen!

  • whoever disliked this song I will hunt you down and gut you like a fish!

  • This is such a strong song

  • one of my favorites from the show. phenomenal.

  • Broadway version so much better than the regular..

  • SHIVERS all over!

  • Why would people dislike this?!

  • beautiful song

  • So many shivers that I had to make soup to get it to stop.

  • This is so powerful. Heather has the most wonderful voice ever.

  • soo beautiful, goose bumps all over :')

  • "The rivers dried, the ground has broken. So I must go. Now I must go." Scumbag Nala.. Leaving the dead land to her family.

  • chills all over....simply a beautiful and moving ballad...

  • Heather Headley is the standard by which I judge all other renditions, including my own. The girl I saw in London a few years back wasn't so good, I could barely hear her up in the gods, even with a microphone.

  • It's songs like this that help make the Broadway version of Lion King work better as a story overall.

  • Saw it when I was younger. Don't remember any of these non-movie scenes.

  • And this is AWESOME!

  • Yeeh ooh en hallo ikke ben chadi! ! iemandt mij kennen? uit Narcis ....

  • Yesssss this song was AWESOME!

  • I love this song. The movie didn't really go into what Nala had to have gone through decidign to go look for help. This really does her justice! *goosebumps!*

  • just watched the live show in singapore...

    damn i'm sooooooo addicted

  • saw it to days ago in london - fuckin fantastic!

  • @Troubleman0009 lol l2spell idiot

  • @DrCox1404 saw it TWO days ago ;) :D

  • Saw the musical last wednesday at the Brodway in New York!

It was just gorgeous! Can recommend it to everyone!!

  • I'm still not over the fact that I've never been to any of The Lion King Musicals....... such a shame!!!

  • In the movie of The Lion King I've always loved hearing the background music to this song and now to hear it with added lyrics in it. I practically was about to shed actual tears it really got to me for I love that music soooooo much and it just sounded so powerful and never once have I ever was about to get to tears because of how powerful and beautiful a song is never once and that is saying a lot!

  • Can anyone tell me what Rafiki chants? I'm arranging this for choir and I'd like to include that solo.

  • @emothebandgeek I did some looking around, and I would say the only way you're going to get a hold of the information you want is to find a copy of the script or by ear. I took a look around for the script as well, but I can't find it legal or otherwise.

  • I saw it in New-York in August. Just the best musical ever I saw in my life. And this song, just a wonder!!!! (Sorry for mistakes I'm french)

  • Beautiful

  • :) I remember back in the early 2000's. I was 4 or 5 when my mom and I saw this in Los Angeles. Man, I still have the CD we bought of the soundtrack! 10 years later I still can't get enough of it!

  • My Theatre class at school MAY get to see The Lion King on Broadway at the end of the year :O We are literally BEGGING my Theatre Arts teacher.

  • Heather Headley.... I can't even.... she's just.... i love her.

  • The instrumental section gives me major chills. This is by far my favorite song from the stage production.

  • Why couldn't they rewrite this song for the special edition? Why did they have to put that stupid "Morning Report" in, instead?

  • @Rozax I agree with you 100%, but I think it's because they already animated The Morning Report for the original film and had to take it out back then, whereas to include this song, they would have to go back in and animate new scenes, etc.

  • @Rozax Thank you....this song adds so much substance. The Morning Report...what an unnecessary drag!

  • @Rozax You mean in the Special Edition version of the movie?

Because Morning Report was already animated and was deleted from the original version of the film. They'd have to animate an entire new scene if they put this song in (which takes a lot of work/time :P).

  • @ToxicJoon This has been brought to my attention.

  • @Rozax Sorry, didn't think to check for other replies e.o

  • @ToxicJoon Not a problem. Comments are a couple of months buried.

  • @ToxicJoon Actually, if I remember correctly, that was fresh animation; they had the song already sung for the most part, but the animation and Simba's song was new (which is why Simba's animated parts looked different than the rest of the film).

The reason they put it in was because it was originally written to be in the movie back when they were first making it; whereas the songs from broadway were made after.

  • @Rozax

Because it was sung by Mister Bean himself, Rowland Atkins?

Come on man you gotta give the man credit for trying to actually sing!

  • @GellyfishProductions Oh, nothing against Mister Bean! Morning Report is just an awful song, the poor guy.

  • @Rozax

Yea as a song Shadowland is much better, and it also provides context for HOW the chick lion found SImba so i agree with you on that, 100 %

  • @GellyfishProductions Yes, Nala's story makes a LOT more sense with the inclusion of this song. It's also a nice song for altos and it blows other "princess" songs out of the water. It's a song about the love and devotion she has for her family; not some whimsical crush on some chump she's known for two minutes.

  • @GellyfishProductions Actually Jeff Bennett sung Morning Report in the movie and not Rowan Atkinson. Atkinson did sing his own parts in I Just Can't Wait To Be King though.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rozax Y'know, while I agree that "Morning Report" was probably the last song I would've chosen for the Special Edition (no, wait, that would be "Chow Down"), at least Morning Report is catchy and has some pretty clever lyrics. That's more than, say, "Hakuna Matata" can say.

Dear GOD, do I hate Hakuna Matata. Yeah yeah, I know that means I have no heart and am going to hell or whatever, but I find the song unbelievably annoying.

  • I saw this musical in 09 and just got back from watching it in 3D. Favorite movie/musical ever!

  • Can't wait to see Lion King released in 3D

  • This song is so beautiful!

  • saw this on wednesday, absolutly amazing!! xx

  • This musical is so well written! THE MUSIC IS SIMPLY BRILLIANT. The only show that has EVERY single song that gives me chills down my spine. I cant even describe what it was like seeing it in London. I was BREATH TAKEN! I remember a lot of it and it was 3 years ago! It has SOO much African culture in it as well. GREATEST SHOW EVER! Since the time I have seen it in London (almost 9 years ago), I have yet again been amazed at the dedication, the talent, the choreography, EVERYTHING about this musical was beyond belief. I feel that because of this, I would have no problem watching this performed over and over again. I myself want to audition for this outstanding musical, as well as others. I want to extend my thanks to all of the performers and orchestra and producers for making this musical! :)

  • @17DefyingGravity Yes I have seen it twice and I can't wait for a 3rd time. There is so many effects, you don't recall them all. And even the 2nd time seems like the 1st. When Mufassa ses "Look at the stars" to Simba. Sit in the stalls, then look at the ceiling theres a wonderful suprise.

  • @evilgalorereturns Aww i no !! it was just such a wonderful feel good performance! I no was front row of the stalls could see the stars above :) it was quite spectacular. My favourite number was by far HSadowland becasue it was so emotional and moving :) i loved scar and the hyeenas and their song - the scenery looked amazing!!

  • @17DefyingGravity (hat blown back from rant) You have a lot of power there.

  • @17DefyingGravity I just saw it recently too in Ottawa, and it rocked. And I never cried when watching the movie before, but I cried watching it.

  • The instrumental part of this song is just amazing. I love it. <3

  • I love this song so so so much. We sung it with the Young Americans, and now I'm singing it in my singing group. The harmonies are just so tight and beautiful, it's my dream to one day see this on Broadway. Or better yet, be in it!! :O

  • Nice song!

  • There's a skip at 1:01...

I mean amazing song, just saying being a person who gets very intertwined with the music that was a huge upset.

  • i love this song so much<3 along with endless night, this is my favourite song from the lion king:)

  • i love this song so much<3 along with endless night, this is my favourite song from the lion king:)

  • is this supposed to be nala or something?

  • @blueeyedblonde123 Yes, it is Nala

  • I love how they took that theme from the cartoon and created a whole song out of it. when I heard it in the musical, I just got goosebumps because all the scenes where that particular theme was used in the movie just came flooding back to me, and the lighting, the music, just sounded soooooo desolate, like that wind that's blowing through emptiness

  • @searchingly This is actually adapted from the African song Lea Halalela which is about something much different.

  • @Sei1863 Stop trying to be pretentious. Searchingly was referring to the motif at 1:25, no doubt.

  • @MyWorldIsPurple You don't "try" to be pretentious, moron. You either are being or you aren't, no one tries to be pretentious. That's like trying to be a fucking idiot, like you. By the way, using the word "motif" shows that you only have a very vague idea of what you're talking about. Look it up online if you want. There's nothing I said that isn't true.

  • @Sei1863 I didn't say that it wasn't true. You just picked a random comment to try to show off. Get your head out your arse.

  • @MyWorldIsPurple No. I grew up with Lebo M's album Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Lea Halalela was a song I listened to from the time I was 4 years old and has always been very spiritually significant to me. When I heard this melody, I thought it was important to honour that.

Ugly people see ugly things. You're a nasty person, so you'll breath nasty meaning into what is beautiful to me. You'll see a show off because you ARE a show off. You'll see ugliness because you ARE ugly. That's not my problem.

  • @Sei1863 Oh. My. God. You're being pretentious -again-. One person said how much they love the song, you get all up your own arse saying "omg actually this is an adapted song". Everyone knows that, you're not special.

  • @MyWorldIsPurple Not everyone knows that. Face it, you've lost. You're an ugly, vicious person who sees ugly, vicious things. You're the one who's not special; I never claimed to be. You're a lonely child talking to themselves in the dark.

  • @Sei1863 Yes, I'm ugly and vicios. Or not. And when did I say anything was ugly or vicious? I saw the beauty another user was trying to talk about when you attempted to crush them. Eugh.

  • <3 young americans sing this amazingly

  • This song is beautiful....i love it

  • a beautifully stunning piece. i'm speechless.

  • i love this song.................im goin to dance untill i cry wit this song..

  • I got this solo for the choral version in high school. We went a bit faster, but I think both versions are gorgeous.

  • @persephone750 I got a solo for my junior high version!

  • The instrumental was Mufasa's death theme in the '94 film

  • I always get sniffly when this part plays w/o vocals in the movie version...

  • At the beginning, just while the choir is singing, it reminds me of something from Brother Bear, for some reason...

    But such a brilliant song!

  • this song is AWESOME

  • I am guilty of raping the replay button now...

  • Five people have no taste in music. ]:

  • I love this song! It's so powerful, the singing, the instruments, the choir. 5 people are either stupid or deaf.

  • @KipekeeUnique They're Scar's subjects. That's why they don't like this song.

  • @mcmptn Lol :D

  • Heather Headley is AMAZING.

  • This song is powerful. I went to see the Lion King on Broadway when I was little, but I didn't remember it when my friend mentioned it earlier today. So I listened to it, and the memory just came rushing back. Amazing song.
