Have been umming and erring about buying the plans. Did you guys have much trouble building it? It looks amazing and I bet the lady you built it for appreciates it.
@databanks To be honest we had quite a struggle with some of the instructions and a lot of the provided components in the kit. Looking back we decided we should have bought our own bike parts from a bicycle supply shop. Out of the three kits offered, the hardware kit is very necessary but the other kits, you would do better on your own I think. If you have reasonable mechanical and troubleshooting skills you probably could build it easily enough.
@CornfieldCraziness Thanks. I tend to build things from scrap materials - whatever's on hand - and design on the fly. Means sometimes things don't work as planned and get rebuilt shortly afterwards, but it's cheaper than buying parts. However somethings you can't pick up from council cleanups. I'd probably have to redesign the plans to suit 26" wheels, for example, because I almost never see bikes with 20" on the side of the road. It's almost always 26" or tiny 16".
@databanks 26" wheels might even be better since the smaller wheels are harder to start out on uneven ground. Bigger wheels with the right ratio would be worth trying.
@CornfieldCraziness I was thinking that, too. Better for uneven ground and the advantage of greated rotaional momentum so once you get your speed up... Using bigger wheels, it might be worth moving the front wheels out or possibly narrowing the frame - to improve the turning circle. Hrm. Lots to think about. I can see a lot of sketching in the future
@steemy2 It's made from schedule 40 PVC. I think it would be durable enough for off roading, the bottom frame is steel reinforced, but I think the gearing would need to be lower.
receives a warm greeting from Venezuela. Please do the chances that I can send my e-planes. Here in my country is not common this type of construction. my email is older_solo@hotmail.com ... thank you very much
@spaceman198462 Hopefully no more big projects for a while. I have to make a hutch for the sheep and I have to do some major work on the Dodge truck. Did you get your lawn tractor done?
@DIYMakerman You know, i actually had thought about filming them riding it and/or taking stills of them standing beside it to end the video with but when I took it up there I was on a very tight schedule and then had to spend approx. an hour trying to get the brakes adjusted so they didn't make a dragging noise. So I didn't get any more footage. They were tickled to death about it though.
@CornfieldCraziness I never did get the brakes right and finally went to a bike shop and we determined it was the poor quality of the calipers in the kit so he has some decent calipers that I can pick up for 10 bucks each if I need to go that route but for now I got some different shoes that allow me to swivel them to line up with the wheel better and I will put those on and see if that helps. It should. If not I will get the calipers.
@CornfieldCraziness Well, they *should* be tickled. You did a fine job, very first rate. I hope mine looks as good as the one you made. Anyway, if you know them from church you could still get a video of them riding it. Maybe an interview of them talking about it. Also, I sure hope they have a way to keep it secure. Even small towns have their unfortunate types. I'd hate for it to get "lost."

Awesome build! What type of PVC did you use? Is it durable enough to be used on an off-road style four-wheel peddle vehicle?
