Keep up the good work guys! Aren't we lucky that we live in a society where we have the luxury of debating how 'police resources are used', rather than having to fight to speak, or having our homes destroyed, children taken

This self-indulgent nonsense achieved nothing except making the smug middle-class protestors feel better. Police diverted, traffic mayhem, distress to the local community. The media, politicians and the wider public completely ignored it. Nuclear weapons are bad but they don't sell drugs to my kids or stab me in the street. Why don't you do something about that? Because it's difficult, dirty and dangerous. Leave it to the police - who are all tied up at Faslane! Way to go...
Wow that was inspirational and reminds me there are some decent people in this world still, not just who think, but act. You have my full respect for this act of sanity in this increasingly insane world,

Er, thats it. But, hey, it made you feel better!
Nuclear weapons are surely an obscenity but that was an expensive, smug, self-indulgent WASTE OF TIME, wasnt it.
Well, what did all that smug middle-class self-indulgence actually achieve? Sorting the REAL problems is dirty, difficult and dangerous so let's go and camp out at Faslane! Let the police tackle the real issues in society, oh wait a minute, they're all busy at Faslane, er...

At last, someone who's willing to enter in to some sort of sensible debate. Thanks so much!
You are, of course, quite right that despite 25 years of the Peace Camp Trident is still present in the Gareloch. It is, however, extremely notable that the SNP were able to run on an anti-Trident ticket this May and win an election; I think they may be the only party ever to win an election when holding an anti-nuclear stance. (contd).
Oh yes because we were definetly going to use Trident NUCLEAR weapons against Iraq, well done! AND of course the War in Iraq was the best thing for everyone. Look at your facts, Peace to you spainy53 xxx
Thanks for the advice! From the tone of your comment I would guess that you are a tory facist wanker. Hope it made you feel better to get that off your chest.
Love you guys! Jonohx is clearly ignorant, most of the people i am sure have jobs deffinately the people who organised it, they organise it because they want to and take time out to do these things, do you not think it is a good cause? Or you really think these weapons are making the world a better place?
thank you for all the work you do and all the creativity you put into it. In response to 'bigf2005' I pay tax and I'd happily send all of it to Seize the Day if I had a choice. Great night on Saturday by the way ( at AHP festival) THANK YOU ALL VERY VERY MUCH. v
Still can't think of any good reasons why we need Weapons of Mass Destruction.
I'd rather see the money spent on the NHS, on mediating peace in the middle east, on looking after old aged pensioners, or in fact just about anything but....
How long have you been protesting?? what difference have you made? (apart from re-directing police resources out of the communities that badly need them, annoying the local residents, disrupting the local traffic) NONE. So do us all a favour, go get a job and contribute to society instead of milking it.
As I have said before, things change when small groups of people are prepared to make themselves heard. We raise awareness and get people thinking. Differences? Well the road protesters changed this countrie's road building policy, and the GM food campaigners stopped gm food being grown in this country, and labelled in food. Poll tax? Um... women's liberation? A cross in a box every election sometimes isn't enough. It is our responsibility to question the decisions made on our behalf.
lol. they're nuke subs. it's not every day we need a nuke sub to back up soldiers. the protest is against the advancement in WMDs such as Trident. Soldiers are the government's tools of "helping peace" anyways.
What a bunch of Sad B******s! Im not sure whats worse You along with GreenPeace or Terrorists... In My opinion you are the worst sort of people in existence. While you blockade Submarines that could be supppoting Troops in Iraq/Afganistan Just imagine the Men that weren't able to return to thier familes because the Submarine that was supposed to back them up were late... At least you can shoot a Terrorist...
Ultimashadow87,it is sad that you believe it's Ok to shoot protestors, or so you imply. It has been activism and hard work which have brought policy change for equal rights for women and minority groups, albeit the fight is not completely over on our soil and we still have progress to make. (part 1)
Ultimashadow (part 2). "Worst people in existance"? Did you even do history in school? imo nukes are a waste of money. As if wearen't already paying enough in to disgusting wars, we don't need these heinous penis extentions. We should be spending money on helping people, not bombing them.
If/When Alex Salmond gets the Holyrood "talking stick", he has pledged to evict the submarines. I have sometimes wondered if those who build and service submarines, nuclear bombs, cruise missiles and other such silly boys toys, do so purely from patriotism, or do their salaries sometimes guide their sensibilities. Then again, ten tons of steel is worth just £300, give it wheels and a gun, call it an "essential part of our defense" and it is worth £300,000.
The scottish Parliament has no authorty to "evict" the submarines. Defence is up to Westminster. When he promised that it was just one of the many promises he could not keep.
i think MOD police should be allowed to open fire the first sign or sound of hippys trying to sing this gash music.
Why do you have to make peoples lives hell just because they are in the armed forces. There job isnt easy there away for months at a time. Fighting for the countrys freedom. They have enough problems trying to keep there lives together as it is. Without you causing even more stress.
GET SOME REAL JOBS STOP HARASSING PEOPLE THAT ALREADY DO.
Danny, I don't think the blockades are directed at people who work in the armed forces, but the work that is done at Faslane to keep the Vanguard subs sailing. I'm assuming that you work at the base and get stuck in blockades. Can I ask: do you still get paid if a blockade stops you getting in? Surely your bosses can't stop your wages or discipline you if you're delayed by a blockade?
cut there hair, not the chains!!! get a job and help out your country not help put our taxes up, and taking our police off the streets (im not talking about the rent-a-cop m.o.d clowns either) im talking about strathclyde's finest.
You'd love it to be all about long hair you stupid fucker.... the only way forward is to embrace sustainability - stop pretending the rest of the world wants to invade us and spend these billions creating the necessary infrastructure in order to cope with future climatic change - stopping people from doing a job we don't really need them to do seems sensible to me, especially when that useless job costs the tax slave 70 billion
- the insanity is not ours but the yours - the west having a world full of 'deterrents has created an understandable arms race - the insanity is not Korea's or China's but ours in the west for setting such a shite example with the 'moral high ground' we had after WW2 - the first person to use a nuclear weapon on a whole city ruins the global economy - do you really think the trillionaires who runs this world will let that happen? what a waste and diversion
you rednecks are all the same, yee haw into war and then boo hoo when the war dead start coming home 75 billion pounds which could be spend to sort our alot more of society's immediate ills - YOU wake up - people like you are just dead inside with no vision or handle on reality ... can't you see what we are trying to do with a protest like this? - save money, save lives and save the planet - if you've got a problem with that then drop dead
They *have* a job. They're musicians. Did you miss that bit? You see them playing instruments, yes? Well lots of people like me (also people with jobs, who pay taxes and everything, funnily enough) pay money to hear them. We find it inspiring. And if some people without jobs choose to spend their time constructively like this, what of that? Would you rather our unemployed sat on the sofa watching tv? As long as there are more people in this country than jobs, we will have unemployment.
Oh, and my Dad is a policeman, and yes, I have protested in marches he's been policing. It's part of the police's role to do that. It's part of our role as responsible citizens to express our feelings on important issues and make our voices heard. It's also our democratic right to do so. If you value our country so much, you should really embrace the democratic system.
Oh, and stop moaning about taxes while you're at it. Do you have any idea how much tax is spent on defense, on nuclear weaponry? How much better that could be spent on schools and hospitals and, yes, police? I suggest you look into it. It might help you express yourself better, too, if you read. Hey, it might even help you get a better job so you can pay more of those taxes you keep banging on about.
Try this type opf protest in Russia and China and see what happens. Perhaps we should rely on Iranian, North Korean and every other bampot country for our safety in the future. ignorant scum
Ah but that's not how science works- the conflict is in order to fund decent science you need enormous resources (I don't deny corruption along the way) the raison d'etre that the truth is blind and eventually will out through publishing (ie nature magazine) and peer reviewing- GM passes those tests. Nuclear defence doesn't, nuclear energy as the only immediate way of lowering carbon does. All this has little to do with multinationals and politics which are the next layer down in the pyramid.
Better have Newton Erasmus & Spinoza locked away for years with their books than this coconut shy democracy. Happily the monkey evolves. I'll shut up now..
This particular happy monkey just has to say that relying on multinationals (who fund most of the GM research)to solve the worlds problems is not necessarily the wisest reasoning, their shareholders would be dissapointed, for a start. I beg you to do some thinking about why there is world hunger in the first place.
Presumably they aren't all in the thrall of of Monsanto. We all realise that Lomborg's climate change predictions were bad science and he was a charlatan giving succour to Bush et al but you have to be very careful not to make the same mistake. Again good luck to you all. This is a crap way of posting cos you can only type in soundbites, thinking in easy cliches is the modern tragedy. contd
The debate on GM has been skewed by a lot of people who ultimately have the wrong concerns- cross pollination isn't a risk- evolution doesn't let super breeds take over etc. etc. but quoting a couple of mavericks with dodgy research is easier than going with the majority of scientific opinion- what makes you think the various advisory committees all over the world have got GM wrong? contd
I love Seize the day's sound, commitment and passion (and she's got a great totally natural voice, reminded me a lot of the Belgian girls Lais) I just think that by casting themselves "outside" of all things mainstream (I don't mean musically) they lose the chance to make a difference. Stick them in suits at Eton and the paradigm may shift. But ShannonAli is right. At least they did it.
Tim, Bless you for your thoughtful comments. I'd like to point out that a significant amount of social change happens because a small group of people think outside the box and decide to act. What happens is that the radical gradually becomes the norm and things change.
The road protesters of the early 90's did have a significant effect on road building policy. The poll tax was scrapped because a lot of poeple marched about it and we don't have GM food here because people like Seize the Day risked arrest by pulling up crops. It's always a combined effort, and a lot depends on the media.
Well put and glad you'll keep on keeping on. Thanks for making the effort on our behalf.Have you guys ever tried to get on Question Time? Again I personally believe GM crops are going to be a good thing, indeed the only way we're going to cope with the mess we're in rests totally with science (hunger specifically with GM) contd
(contd.) Were one being churlish one could also point to the waste of police time, though sometimes that's what they're there for. It's worth remembering the maxim that subversion becomes innocuous once it names itself. The Spice Girls and Big brother are subversive because however bad they may be, the world changed afterwards. Kids became a market and most of the crap out there post Spice Girls only makes sense if you're 12 years old.
Everything here is totally laudable and you need such local action to let the powers that be know that there is opposition. The question for me is are the good people involved in all this maximising their energies to the greatest public good? I sincerely doubt that all this effort, however well intentioned will make an iota of difference- Britain's nuclear strategy will be decided by people who expect this stuff and treat it as a minor irritation. (contd)
Well it looks like pretty easy self promotion to me, wear some hemp rags, get some bongos and all the superior middle class university students want to join you. How about you bugger off and let the 80% of Scots go protest for themselves, or don't you think they'll be able to do it with the right degree of pretentiousness? Daddy needs a haircut and a proby officer.
You people have hijacked an important issue with your stupid, self promoting, middle class childishness. What point was there in dragging that little girl in front of the cars except for mummy's self satisfaction?
It wasn't mummy, it was Daddy. They are having fun. We are aware of the importance of the issue, which is why we were there and made the film. There are easier way's to self-promote. If you have a more efficient way of drawing attention to the WMD's in Scotland (which 80% of Scots don't want) Please let us know.
yeh, peace we dont need nuclear weapons in this world we. nuclear weapons are not and can never make any country safer it merly hitens the risk of accidents happening which would lead to some of the worste affects on the human race the animals and the environ ment. we must stop the renuwal and production of any nuclear weapons in the futere for the safty of the entire human race.
Love you <3

Maybe the SNP ran on the Independence ticket?? .FACT protests at Faslane have achieved nothing. rnp1985:
At last, someone who's willing to enter in to some sort of sensible debate. Thanks so much!
You are, of course, quite right that despite 25 years of the Peace Camp Trident is still present in the Gareloch. It is, however, extremely notable that the SNP were able to run on an anti-Trident ticket this May and win an election; I think they may be the only party ever to win an election when holding an anti-nuclear stance. (contd).
jim0203 4 years ago

I'd rather see the money spent on the NHS, on mediating peace in the middle east, on looking after old aged pensioners, or in fact just about anything but....
emptyhand17 4 years ago
Throw the Civil Rights Movement in the States on the list, plus the repeal of Section 28 and the introduction of Civil Partnerships.
People take so much for granted, it's sad. If it weren't for activism, we wouldn't have the liberties we do today.
moonrat8 4 years ago
How long have you been protesting?? what difference have you made? (apart from re-directing police resources out of the communities that badly need them, annoying the local residents, disrupting the local traffic) NONE. So do us all a favour, go get a job and contribute to society instead of milking it.
bigf2005 4 years ago
As I have said before, things change when small groups of people are prepared to make themselves heard. We raise awareness and get people thinking. Differences? Well the road protesters changed this countrie's road building policy, and the GM food campaigners stopped gm food being grown in this country, and labelled in food. Poll tax? Um... women's liberation? A cross in a box every election sometimes isn't enough. It is our responsibility to question the decisions made on our behalf.

I can't believe people are seriously advocating shooting and killing peaceful protesters. I thought we were in the UK not a fascist police state.
letyourlifesing 4 years ago
lol. they're nuke subs. it's not every day we need a nuke sub to back up soldiers. the protest is against the advancement in WMDs such as Trident. Soldiers are the government's tools of "helping peace" anyways.
viperxv 4 years ago
Well we needed a nuclear bomb to stop world war 2. Hopefully we wont ever need it again. but better keep them just in case.
danny842003 4 years ago
What a bunch of Sad B******s! Im not sure whats worse You along with GreenPeace or Terrorists... In My opinion you are the worst sort of people in existence. While you blockade Submarines that could be supppoting Troops in Iraq/Afganistan Just imagine the Men that weren't able to return to thier familes because the Submarine that was supposed to back them up were late... At least you can shoot a Terrorist...
Ultimashadow87 4 years ago
Ultimashadow87,it is sad that you believe it's Ok to shoot protestors, or so you imply. It has been activism and hard work which have brought policy change for equal rights for women and minority groups, albeit the fight is not completely over on our soil and we still have progress to make. (part 1)
moonrat8 4 years ago
Ultimashadow (part 2). "Worst people in existance"? Did you even do history in school? imo nukes are a waste of money. As if wearen't already paying enough in to disgusting wars, we don't need these heinous penis extentions. We should be spending money on helping people, not bombing them.
moonrat8 4 years ago
Ah, AT LAST an explanation why the war in Iraq has gone so horribly. Someone blockaded a SUBMARINE!
Spainy53 4 years ago
Love it, your blockade and the tune. Keep it up guys. People can only stay ignorant for so long.
viperxv 4 years ago
If/When Alex Salmond gets the Holyrood "talking stick", he has pledged to evict the submarines. I have sometimes wondered if those who build and service submarines, nuclear bombs, cruise missiles and other such silly boys toys, do so purely from patriotism, or do their salaries sometimes guide their sensibilities. Then again, ten tons of steel is worth just £300, give it wheels and a gun, call it an "essential part of our defense" and it is worth £300,000.
landsker 4 years ago
Good apparently one of the 3 dockyards is going to get binned any way. Scotlands economic loss will be either Portsmouths or Plymouths gain.
danny842003 4 years ago
The scottish Parliament has no authorty to "evict" the submarines. Defence is up to Westminster. When he promised that it was just one of the many promises he could not keep.

i think MOD police should be allowed to open fire the first sign or sound of hippys trying to sing this gash music.
Why do you have to make peoples lives hell just because they are in the armed forces. There job isnt easy there away for months at a time. Fighting for the countrys freedom. They have enough problems trying to keep there lives together as it is. Without you causing even more stress.
GET SOME REAL JOBS STOP HARASSING PEOPLE THAT ALREADY DO.
danny842003 4 years ago
Danny, I don't think the blockades are directed at people who work in the armed forces, but the work that is done at Faslane to keep the Vanguard subs sailing. I'm assuming that you work at the base and get stuck in blockades. Can I ask: do you still get paid if a blockade stops you getting in? Surely your bosses can't stop your wages or discipline you if you're delayed by a blockade?

You'd love it to be all about long hair you stupid fucker.... the only way forward is to embrace sustainability - stop pretending the rest of the world wants to invade us and spend these billions creating the necessary infrastructure in order to cope with future climatic change - stopping people from doing a job we don't really need them to do seems sensible to me, especially when that useless job costs the tax slave 70 billion
b4u2r1 4 years ago

- save money, save lives and save the planet - if you've got a problem with that then drop dead
b4u2r1 4 years ago
They *have* a job. They're musicians. Did you miss that bit? You see them playing instruments, yes? Well lots of people like me (also people with jobs, who pay taxes and everything, funnily enough) pay money to hear them. We find it inspiring. And if some people without jobs choose to spend their time constructively like this, what of that? Would you rather our unemployed sat on the sofa watching tv? As long as there are more people in this country than jobs, we will have unemployment.
herringprincess 4 years ago
Oh, and my Dad is a policeman, and yes, I have protested in marches he's been policing. It's part of the police's role to do that. It's part of our role as responsible citizens to express our feelings on important issues and make our voices heard. It's also our democratic right to do so. If you value our country so much, you should really embrace the democratic system.
herringprincess 4 years ago
Oh, and stop moaning about taxes while you're at it. Do you have any idea how much tax is spent on defense, on nuclear weaponry? How much better that could be spent on schools and hospitals and, yes, police? I suggest you look into it. It might help you express yourself better, too, if you read. Hey, it might even help you get a better job so you can pay more of those taxes you keep banging on about.
herringprincess 4 years ago
Wankers, that dont want to get a job, and stop honest hard working folk getting to there's along with stopping the kid's getting to school!!!!

World poverty is so huge and multifaceted that it would be hard to discuss here. If ever you're in the Netherlands we should talk properly!
tim237 5 years ago
Sounds good Tim237, likewise if you are ever in Somerset. Good talking to you.
ShannonAli 5 years ago
Ah but that's not how science works- the conflict is in order to fund decent science you need enormous resources (I don't deny corruption along the way) the raison d'etre that the truth is blind and eventually will out through publishing (ie nature magazine) and peer reviewing- GM passes those tests. Nuclear defence doesn't, nuclear energy as the only immediate way of lowering carbon does. All this has little to do with multinationals and politics which are the next layer down in the pyramid.
tim237 5 years ago
Better have Newton Erasmus & Spinoza locked away for years with their books than this coconut shy democracy. Happily the monkey evolves. I'll shut up now..
tim237 5 years ago
This particular happy monkey just has to say that relying on multinationals (who fund most of the GM research)to solve the worlds problems is not necessarily the wisest reasoning, their shareholders would be dissapointed, for a start. I beg you to do some thinking about why there is world hunger in the first place.
ShannonAli 5 years ago
Presumably they aren't all in the thrall of of Monsanto. We all realise that Lomborg's climate change predictions were bad science and he was a charlatan giving succour to Bush et al but you have to be very careful not to make the same mistake. Again good luck to you all. This is a crap way of posting cos you can only type in soundbites, thinking in easy cliches is the modern tragedy. contd
tim237 5 years ago
The debate on GM has been skewed by a lot of people who ultimately have the wrong concerns- cross pollination isn't a risk- evolution doesn't let super breeds take over etc. etc. but quoting a couple of mavericks with dodgy research is easier than going with the majority of scientific opinion- what makes you think the various advisory committees all over the world have got GM wrong? contd
tim237 5 years ago
I love Seize the day's sound, commitment and passion (and she's got a great totally natural voice, reminded me a lot of the Belgian girls Lais) I just think that by casting themselves "outside" of all things mainstream (I don't mean musically) they lose the chance to make a difference. Stick them in suits at Eton and the paradigm may shift. But ShannonAli is right. At least they did it.
Peace and Good luck
Tim
tim237 5 years ago
Tim, Bless you for your thoughtful comments. I'd like to point out that a significant amount of social change happens because a small group of people think outside the box and decide to act. What happens is that the radical gradually becomes the norm and things change.
ShannonAli 5 years ago
The road protesters of the early 90's did have a significant effect on road building policy. The poll tax was scrapped because a lot of poeple marched about it and we don't have GM food here because people like Seize the Day risked arrest by pulling up crops. It's always a combined effort, and a lot depends on the media.
ShannonAli 5 years ago
Well put and glad you'll keep on keeping on. Thanks for making the effort on our behalf.Have you guys ever tried to get on Question Time? Again I personally believe GM crops are going to be a good thing, indeed the only way we're going to cope with the mess we're in rests totally with science (hunger specifically with GM) contd
tim237 5 years ago
(contd.) Were one being churlish one could also point to the waste of police time, though sometimes that's what they're there for. It's worth remembering the maxim that subversion becomes innocuous once it names itself. The Spice Girls and Big brother are subversive because however bad they may be, the world changed afterwards. Kids became a market and most of the crap out there post Spice Girls only makes sense if you're 12 years old.
(contd)
tim237 5 years ago
Everything here is totally laudable and you need such local action to let the powers that be know that there is opposition. The question for me is are the good people involved in all this maximising their energies to the greatest public good? I sincerely doubt that all this effort, however well intentioned will make an iota of difference- Britain's nuclear strategy will be decided by people who expect this stuff and treat it as a minor irritation. (contd)
tim237 5 years ago
Well it looks like pretty easy self promotion to me, wear some hemp rags, get some bongos and all the superior middle class university students want to join you. How about you bugger off and let the 80% of Scots go protest for themselves, or don't you think they'll be able to do it with the right degree of pretentiousness? Daddy needs a haircut and a proby officer.
corpwar 5 years ago
Seriously, it's easy to attack what someone else does. It's harder to act. I'm interested in what you would do instead?
ShannonAli 5 years ago
You people have hijacked an important issue with your stupid, self promoting, middle class childishness. What point was there in dragging that little girl in front of the cars except for mummy's self satisfaction?
corpwar 5 years ago
