How come we don't have anyone smart enough to take the time to come up with this stuff anymore? This is what fascinates me about coin op. Pure engineering genius. I try to teach my kids how to work on things. They love to see how things work.
If you're ever in San Francisco, one of these beautiful games, along with other arcade games, is located at the Musee Mecanique on Pier 45. I used to play the game at its previous location, Cliff House, when I lived in The City. Wish I had the money to buy an original!
There was an example of one of these games at Disneyland's Penny Arcade that I used to play back when I was a kid. I would spend so much time on this game, my Dad would get mad...Not because he wanted us to go see the rest of the park, but because HE wanted a go at it! Great memories...Thanks for posting this!!
It was so nice of John Fogerty to lend his voice to this game in 1937. :~/

The inside of this machine is fascinating to watch, probably more so than playing the game itself.

I think this game might have made a cameo in the movie "The Thirteenth floor", I'll have to go back and check.

That's supposed to be the taunting refrain yelled out to make the batter miss when he swings.
"Hey Batter, Batter, Batter..."
