Its upsetting when people like a band because they're 'hot' or 'pretty.' Not all vk and jrock fans are like this, but DeG GazettE, and others have the most of these. One should like Dir en Grey for all their music. If you dont like metal or this new style, than at least appreciate the lyrics Kyo writes in both English and Japanese. I think DeG has evolved beautifully; Can you hear all the sounds put into their composition? Or see the beautiful complex lyrics compared to their simpler VK era?

Image helps Japanese bands get out there, but with Dir en Grey image is more about representation. They're about emotion, not visuals, but visuals help. They've always been about portraying emotions. Their music has changed, but their initial point has not. This is nothing like Ruten no Tou, or Lotus, or Glass Skin, or any of their Unplugged songs because its a different emotion and subject being represented. They're visual when they want to be, but not VK. VK is about visual, DeG is emotion.

@Klaryrock95 For a start, it's Visual Kei. As for albums that are strongly Visual Kei from Dir en grey would be; (And in order from oldest) Gauze, Macabre, Kisou, Vulgar and Withering to Death. After that their style has somewhat changed quite a bit, personally I am more of a fan of their older work, than most things post Uroboros.

After watching a gig here in Brazil, I kinda changed my opinion about Diru - I now feel that leaving VK was a good thing for them, as they can experiment sounds and atmospheres. It doesn't mean that their newer albums are easy to enjoy at first listening. But after listening a couple of times it sounds more cohesive and somehow, beautiful.
