My friend lost his job as a chef, couldn't find work for over a year and lost his home through no fault of his own. He ended up living with his dad and is still searching for full time employment. He's been working on his own since he was 14 and is anything but lazy. He started his own record label, produced records for his band etc and totally renovated his old farm house by himself. Wanting to be successful and being successful are not the same thing.

The US created this form of government, because while it prevents the minority from being attacked against, it also protects the majority from too much concentration of power with the few.
People need to understand, you can have democracy in a republic... Democracy is just a way to elect people and/or pass laws. A Republic is a form of government in which the people, or some significant portion of them, have supreme control over the government. In the US we get those people into power with Democracy.. Republic is a form of government, democracy is a way of action within the government. And democracy is executed with votes and parlimentary procedure in our government.

This guy seemed quite articulate and intelligent, just politically misguided. If he got to reading about true free market based capitalism and studied some of the greats, Ludwig von Mises, Bastiat, Murray Rothbard, etc. and some of today's leading Austrian economists and other free market economists, scholars, and advocates. Individuals like Dr. Tom Woods, Peter Schiff, Ron Paul, Thomas Sowell, etc. These individuals have done a job of waking an economic layman like myself up to the truth.

Capitalism does not allow govt intervention or bailouts or lobbyists. Thats called crony capitalism or corporatism. On BBC Big Questions one of the Occupy people said when asked what they are against replied "We are against greed and all the injustice in the world". Because people are greedy we have wonderful inventions that were created: MRI machines, automobiles, iPhones and iPods, computers, large and complex machines to assist us in producing more for others so we may have a higher standard of living, airplanes that can travel the sky, etc. Greed is not the word you want to use, since it is a virtue and causes others to be enriched. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs didn't hold people up at gun point to buy their stuff.

It is government that makes it so that certain groups don't have competition and thus help to monopolize industries. Regulations and corporate welfare are the two biggest pro-monopoly policies government follows.

I don`t mind paying for the workers, the facility or the upkeep, but I do mind paying for the massive surplus in profit. No. Take medical knowledge and all the life-saving invention that stemmed from it. While humans have existed with all their faculties in place for at least 50,000 years, most of that knowledge was acquired only over the past 150 years--since "Gray's Anatomy" 1st Ed. 99% of the things you will use this next week didn't exist just 100 years ago! A monumental wellspring of invention was set loose by legal institutionalization of capitalism.

Ummm... No. You must be from a small town in the midwest or something. These are the same people who will protest about anything. It's their lifestyle/hobby. Why do they have so much student debt? Because they've been working on the same associates degree for 9 years. I live in Los Angeles and see many of the same "regulars" whether its an OWS protest, gay marriage protest, anti-religion protest, you name it. Most of these people would NOT rather be at home.
