4:41-5:04 Almost reminds me of the ape-men in "2001: A Space Odyssey" ...fighting over a water hole. Guess we haven't evolved very far ...even to 2011! l.o.l.
"Like the time when I was 12 years old you promised me a 2 wheeler, well I have yet to see that SUCKER" "Here you give my daddy's saphire ring to Tinker Bell over there and his RECYCLED BRIDE" You've got to love Eunice :) :)
I can relate to Eunice! I also don't really give a shit what people in general think of me: When I gots somethin' t' say, I SAYS IT!! l.o.l.
I am not at all politically correct. If people don't like what I say, that's just too Goddamn bad! I don't even mind being fired from a job, disfellowshipped from a church, or divorced from a wife...if I gots somethin' t' say, I SAYS IT!!
@dakotagerman1 It woudl be nice to be able to speak your mind like that, but unfortunatly you usually can only get away with it if you're a woman, if a guy was acting like that he'd probably get the shit beat out of him by other male family members there. IT SUCKS!
@OMalleyDoubleOhSeven yup this was 1982...many moons ago. anyhow, I sure wish they'd release the entire series on DVD. i have bootlegs of all the episodes but i dont know why they stopped after season 1.
what the hell is Naomi wearing? i wish they would have shown the part when she was walking down the stairs. i love Ellens reaction... and eunice singing that song LMAO!!!
When this first aired, during the ending credits Vicki Lawrence's voice (as Mama) said, "Mama's family was recorded before a live studio audience." Then you heard Carol Burnett, as Eunice warble a few words of "O Promise Me". There was a pause and then "mama" says, "I said the audience was LIVE, Euncie. Let's keep it that way." HIlarious!
I'm trying to find the clip that contains certain wedding vows. I thought it was Vint & Naomi's wedding, but now I'm not sure. To paraphrase, it's some like instead of saying "...'til death do us part," they say something like, "for as long as both of us want to," or something. Maybe this was a To Be Cont'd episode?
This is in this episode but this is only the Eunice scenes. Naomi reads off this long list of vows and Vint says "I promise to love you for as long as we both want" or something like that.
I enjoyed the entire seriesand this early version of Mama was my favorite in the early days of the show. the later episodes with Bubba were good to. Vicki over the years changed how she played Mama. both were good but no doubt the early days were better how she played Mama.
"Is this the line for the food?" LOL. Aunt Effiie is a trip. In syndication, she is acknowledged as "The woman at the party". In the NBC airing, Thelma refers to her as Aunt Effie but that is cut in the syndicated version. She later came back as Aunt Effie during the first run syndication episodes.
i love mamas family. when i was little im 15 now i watched this w my mom. now that shes gone i would do anything to get her back. and to watch this w her. i love you mommy

Is Eunice the middle child? Does anyone know? Cuz i'm feeling like she has a severe case of middle child syndrome. lol
Selah1423 2 years ago
yes, she's between ellen and vince
majoliemoi 2 years ago
It's generally accepted she's the middle but it depends on the episode LOL
Once she was said to be the oldest and once she was said to be the youngest.
pgy002 2 years ago
@Selah1423 I was thinking the same thing. I kind of felt sorry for her since Ellen was Mama's favorite and Vinton was her baby boy.
