There are a few methods of dealing with the tapering of the golf shaft. Small circlets of padding at intervals towards the end, can be used to prevent rattle and for weapon balancing and weighting.
This is a very old school way to make a short...oh and you can mix lasting a long time with being light as well, you just have to actually use superior materials when making your weapon. You dont make bad weapons persay, just quick weapons...take your time and experiment and you will have better results
@robinsword Question though: Don't golf clubs taper a bit as you go further down the shaft towards where the head would be? Rattling prevention would be a little more cumbersome than working with a pipe of constant thicknes, I'd wager. Still, if you can find them cheap, or better, free [thrown away], a good way to go nonetheless.
great vid! I'm lookin to get into the amtgard scene and this really helped me understand safe boffer construction. I'm thinking of working with pvc as it is easier to get a hold of for me. your thoughts?

Golf club shafts aren't too hard to find if you can make it to thrift shops. PVC can work but I still recommend the golf club or even kite spar/rod.

Indeed, graphite cores are especially good for longer weapons like glaives, spears, staves, etc.

Some of those steps seemed unnecessary but I could see why they were there. I want golf shaft cores. >:-(!
