  • Make no mistake, all military band personnel give you your moneys worth. So you object to war, do you suppose we look forward to it? Wake up and smell the bloody coffee! Instead of sitting on your high horse have a go at the politicians. Do not sleit brave people. Without the services we would be overrun with terrorists. But thanks to politicians we are overrun by yobs and criminals instead. My service (23yrs) ended long ago, I wouldn't serve now for Roonys wage!!!

  • you wouldnt see this now , not saying a christian hym anyway , bloody do gooders

  • No Royal Tournament? thank God !!!

  • to stixjohno,,, best one i've found on here of the jollie's at the tournament, my brother was one for years!!!

  • impressive as always's nice one wiggy!!!

  • It's being resurrected

  • @conniff44

    Where did you hear that?

  • @stixjohno Seconded.

  • @stixjohno - The British Military Tournament, its nearly an exact replica and very very enjoyable!

  • @stixjohno Royal Tournament , not a patch on the RT of olde. Why they ever cancelled it will always remain a mystery to me! Bring back the RMs, The RN Field Gunners and the White Helmets!

  • They need to bring back the Tournament ,was a show case for all the forces .and we loved it

  • The Royal Tournament: another wonderful piece of British history destroyed by a Labour (Socialist) government!

You see, Labour hates anything reminiscent of this country's greatness. If they had their way, our armed forces would be disbanded. Witness how Brown callously cut the military budget, while our boys and girls died in Iraq / Afghanistan for want of the proper kit.

'Twas ever thus under Labour governments. They simply do not understand our love and admiration for our armed services.

  • Great memories! I used to go to this in the 80s as a nipper, my dear old mum (rip) dressed me up as a Coldstream Guard. Bring it back I say.

  • I saw the royal tournament in 1989 a few months before I joined the Royal Navy at 16 years old. Its the bset show I've been to.

I wish they would restart this great event

  • Not while Labour's in government they won't!

  • because clearly labour is in charge of these things

  • is it me or does the Mne @ 4:48, rear rank one in from right marker., have a mis-fire?

  • Awesome, truly awseome and brings back many fond memories of my days with a Green Beret.

But did i glimpse the US Marine Band in this clip as well ?

  • @nonthaburial

Hi. Yes they were there. I was at Earls Court every other day for this one. The anks, Spaniards and everyone else hasd a fantastic time and without doubt, this was the very best of the Tornaments. Brting it back.................

  • I never knew my Grand father Royal Marine PTI; Sergeant Frederick Pennson Wells, he died at Scappa Flow. I cry when I hear this. The tears flood watching it. I feel very proud to be British. I'll have to wipe my eyes, I cannot see the keys. Thanks Ron in OZ.

  • Was he on The Royal Oak?

  • was at first vetrans day at chatham and saw the royal marines there and marched in the prade

still make you stand up stright with pride to march with them in the front

bringsme to tears every time i hear sunset

  • ive been looking for this vid for a while

im 5 from the right front rank

    memories!

  • As another Ex Bootneck, this was awesome. I, along with probably every other R.M. that has ever been, hated parades but stick us in Blues and put us behind the Bandies and it was something special.

  • Well said Sir//

  • All the best to the veterans attending the D-Day landing commemorations, and elsewhere

  • i was there for that moment, the last day of the last run.... wish i had my digital camera then

  • Go Dad! Clr Sgt Clarinet back right... love you, wish you were here to be able to see this video x

  • AN WOMEN FORGOT

  • My old man was a WW2 RN rating and he said you could march twice as far with the RM band out front and it put 4 inches on your chest I think it probably still applies these days.

    Very stirring stuff.

  • GUD SHOW LADS WELL DONE

  • i wish they would bring back the royal tournement..i went every year from the age of 6(now 35) up until they cancelled it. i would love my kids to see it... it fills you with so much pride.

  • What is the tune played at 4:40??

    I have been looking EVERYWHERE!

  • The tune being played around 4:40 is Rule Brittania

  • Me again - if you doubt my words, just listen to the applause from the crowd at the end!

  • Strikes me Blair and the rest of his 'Born again Jacobites' have caused more damage to our great nation (for that is what we are!) than old Adolf and The Kaiser ever did! Good on you 'Royals' - Europe will NEVER water you down!

  • Fantastic, the best in the world bar none, if it wasnt for the Royal marines and Royal navy there would not be a free world!

  • Here-here! :-)

  • thank you dibbsy i am ex royal navy

  • As a former Royal Marine I can tell you that as long as the Corps exists there will always be a reason to be proud to be British. Those of your countrymen now serving need your support more than ever . The Royal Tournament was an opportunity for the public to see their tax pounds and to remind them of their heritage. BRING IT BACK!!

  • Spot on Brother............

  • @ticketballs Its a good thing to see all these good men playing wonderful music. However I think that I would be a better use of funds and of greater help to the troops if tax money was spent on the best equipment and supplies rather than public entertainment. It would also be good to make sure that all veterans are rewarded for their service and sacrifice. Once they have done this I would be happy to watch what is an exciting spectacular and a MUCH BETTER use of tax money than WAR.

  • @CaptainCook1778

May I inform you that the Royal Marines Band Service play an active role in theatre in any situation as well as musical support for troops home and abroad, and to add flying the flag on all sorts of engagements. I myself served in the Falklands War 1982 as a stretcher bearer/POW Guard. You as a British tax payer get your full worth for such a great organisation that puts us on the world map. Recently, a RM Band were deployed to Afghanistan as general duties (not music).

  • @ticketballs Amen to that Brother,42 Glasgow.

  • @ticketballs I agree with you my late Father was a Royal Marine Commando in the second

world war and I know what you mean, in England there is not much left to be proud of anymore,

as a country we don't own much anymore and we don't make hardly anything anymore

it's not often an item purchased states made in England but we do have the best Regiment in the world

    The Royal Marines.

  • this show just showd how great the british people were but not now i almost feel ashamed to be known as british with the way this country has been sent down hill by a screwd up govament and with all the hard work from leaders like chirch hill and maggie.

  • This is what it means to be British.

  • No matter how old I get,I can't listen to Marine buglers playing "sunset" without getting a lump in my throat.

  • too british my arse. NOTHING can ever be too british. this was a great event my grandad took me to see the RM band back when i was like 6 and i loved it.

  • Although i dont see why im reading the kind of crap that gets thumbs down, Id like to point out to skippy that HRH Prince Phillip wasnt reading the prayer because hes the Prince Consort, but because he is the Captain-General of the Royal Marines. I see why your comment got 6 thumbs down but I just thought I'd tell you why everyone thinks you're a numbskulled idiot. If this doesnt post next to his comment, Skippys comment is on page 2 at the time of writing.

  • I remember the Tournament as a nipper, then as an adult. It was magnificent at both times in my life. Definately agree that it should be brought back. The government bemoans that they haven't got enough personnel to deal with all the crap they drop HM Forces in, when they scrap one of the best recruitment tools going. Amateurs!

  • What is it that the bugles are playing right after Sunset? It sounds like a bugle call, but I don't recognize it.

  • That'll be the General Salute.

  • its britannic salute

  • I used to sit with my Grandad (Who served on HMS Kent during the war).and watched this, and felt proud of our Armed forces and what he done for his country. So it's a bit crap my son can't see this great event.

  • I still say the reason they cancelled this great British spectacle was because it was TOO BRITISH and dont forget the 2 weeks of The Royal Tournament was for the service charities

Shame for this Country but most of all shame on the Government at the time

This is Britain at its best

I saw every Tournament from 66-99 and i tell you no matter which service had the bulk of the show wheteher army navy or airforce you were never dissapointed

Even to this day i still say it should come back!!

  • I agree with every word you have written. NuLabour hate this sort of thing because as you say it's TOO BRITISH. When Cameron is PM I intend to start a petition to have the The Royal Tournament brought back. It's a fine British tradition which should instill pride in our young people.

  • Wonderful video, I gave it five stars! I especially enjoyed seeing the lads performing 'Sunset.' I have posted my production ' Sunset A Californian's Tribute' which I have dedicated to the Royal Marines as a video response.

  • A fantastic ceremony and great tradition from a former marine at 8th and I, Washington, DC.

  • Oh no,when was the Royal Tournament cancelled? I want to see the great show once in my lifetime. I won't mind travel from Hong Kong, a former British colony, to London to experience this meaningful event. Where can we send our petition to reinstate this Tournament?

  • The Last Royal Tournament was in 1999, In 2000, on Horseguards Parade, London, we did the Royal Military Tattoo which was unbeleivable. A Tri-Service event with the history of the UK Armed forces dating back to when Horseguards Parade had a Tilt yard for Jousting etc. Unfortunatly the MOD budget doesn't allow for such events like that anymore. The government is to busy bailing out Banks that get into trouble

  • Why was the Royal Tournament cancelled?.Growning up in London my parents and I loved it.Being an ex SAS member we knew we could always count on the Marines.Gentlemen I salute all of you.

  • I served in Royal Navy and once youve marched to these guys...you know you are in the forces..It was great. They are undisputed to be the best military band in the World.

  • having served in 40,41and 42 commandoes royal marines it brings so many great memories

    Asheville nc USA

  • This was the Massed bands of the Royal Marines for the finale of the 1990 Royal Tournament. I traveled to see this show twice over the years and i always found it to be the most British of shows. Too bad it is no more, though it is doubtful that the Royal Marines could field that many bands today even if it still was playing at Earls Court.

  • ça a vraiment "de la gueule"

Sorry I don't know how translate in english ;-[

  • I was a trombone player in the US Marine Band that was there. at 0:03 you see the 8 ranks. I'm at the end of the 2d rank from the right farthest from the camera. A closer shot is 0:42-0:43. I'm the guy at the end of the rank on the right. From 0:47-0:48 you see me second from the end.

  • Give it a rest sunshine.

  • Best in the world.

  • Don't understand why they decided to scrap the Royal Tournament!! Its a pity that on this particular tournament, someone decided not to include the word "Gibraltar" on the big badge in order not to offend the spaniards. Gibraltar is the Royal Marines Battle Honour and they have it on their badge.

  • At least they still let you say "God" Save the Queen... if it was like America over there, you would not be able to say that. Political Correctness makes me nauseas. The UK and the US have such a wonderful and rich heritage, which will be lost if things keep going the way they are. It's sad and I don't want to believe it, but it's true.

  • bring back Royal Tournament

  • Thanks, im in this video and it brings back great memories, Dick R, Royal Marines Band 1980 to 1991.

  • well said

  • The Royal Tournament...one of the best and most effective recruiting tools ever! Went there as a young lad, and later served 6 years in the Army. Scrapped years ago...nonesense decision

  • BRING BACK THE TOURNAMENT & FIELD GUNNING!!!

PS: the bootneck band are the best.

Check out the DVD 'The Final run' filmed in 1999 at the last tournament to see real field gunning...

    Mini Mini Lou............

  • This is truely one of the most amazing thing that i've ever seen or heard! The band of HM Royal Marines really are spectacular!

  • This will always bring a tear to my eye

  • The greatest band of the greatest country on earth

  • Great music from the best military musicians in the world. Wish they'd reinstate the Royal Tournament, great event, showing pride in our forces.

  • Also saw some US Marines in there.Good to see them.

  • As an Ex Submariner and with 2 sons serving in the Forces at the moment it brings tears to my eyes watching that and makes my heart feel like bursting with pride !!

Its great to be British, bring back this great event !!

  • Absolutely fantastic! As an ex-RN Submariner, the RM Band can still raise the hairs on the back of my neck, and like INKAT, bring a tear to the eye with pride.

  • God that brings a lump to the throat. Where has all the national pride gone? We have a lot to be really proud of. Ah well, perhaps again one day.

Thank you for such a cracking video, you have taken me back many years and thank you to the Royal Marines for such a superb show.

  • Fantastic video!

There isn't a military band on this earth that challenges the Royal Marines.

  • Ex national service Royal Marine, ex 45 Commando, our beloved band always fills me with pride and a wee tear to the eye!

  • bring back the royal tournament was a great evening out for the hole family and it should the contries pride in are armed force

  • I lived in Portsmouth and use to go to Navy Days every year where the fantastic RM band performed sunset. Brilliant. Best military musiciams in the world. Thanks for posting.

  • I was lucky enough to attend the Royal Tournament in its last year when I was 9 years old. Although I remember enjoying it I wish I had been older so I would have been able to fully appreciate it. Thanks for putting this video up!

  • The British Armed Forces are the best in the world. Its a real pity that we have the worst politicians.

  • Videos of this year can be purchased from bandleaderr video

  • I was fortunate to attend a Royal Tournament that was a navy year. A spectacular performance and the tournaments should be restored. One of the best pound for pound value the government spends on the military. They are also great recruiting events!

  • i used to go to this when i was little. I swear to god that i'd give anything to have the Royal tournament back it was just so brilliant and watching this just makes me feel gutted that britains lost something so brilliant.

    Gun run anyone?

  • It's a real shame that they cut the number of bands down!! Great to see such a number in there massed band!!

  • Ok well i asked one and he said royal marines

and dnt no i didnt cus my grandad was in one of these torniments

  • Marines band s arent the best !!!! not by a long shot.Thats the sort of comment from somebody whos never played in a band.Ask a marines bandsman who the best band is.

  • and what would they say?

  • so who i the best band Andy

  • I can't believe this was scrapped. Coincidence it was during a *** Labour government. Anti - everything liberal scum!

  • It is indeed extremely sad that this event which was supposed to raise money for charity no longer takes place. The real death blow came in 1992 (under the conservatives) when defence cuts meant the length of the event was reduced by a week ruining the prospects of financial viability. As an event it was sadly unable to recover.

  • royal marines band are the best of the best. end of!

  • You said it and I whole heartedly agree!

  • Yep, I think I'll stick to military bands. Nice display *thumbs up*

  • Finest military band in the Universe......had the honour of marching behind them many times.........
