It is a terribly true part of history ,the war between people from the north and people from the south who had slaves.Fortunately these times have gone...And less and less people do have slaves, even if there is a terrible slavery today, which is addictions to alcohol, drugs and tv for example. But i really pity those who were slaves at this time, because they were ill treated, beaten, and often black girls were raped by the landowners.Who treated them like nothing, swayze or ory is so gorgeous, terrific
@fisteberg More damnyankee lies... No Planter or farmer damages his equipment voluntarily. The South would have given up slavery with the oncoming machinery and farm equipment. It wouldn't pay to feed, clothe, house slaves when a tractor costs less. Simple economics. As for Northern busybodies...guess they should have minded their own business...ever see drawings or read accounts of Northern big city slums...or hear the phrase " Irish need not apply " ???
@fisteberg It was a wonderful time if you were the son/daughter of a Southern Planter. Especially the pre-war period. Slaves were not punished as much as people think, you don't damage your goods, only the trouble makers were punished and rightly so. Most slaves on Southern Plantations had it 100% better than their counterparts in Africa and other nations. Plenty food, clothes. If you were fortunate enough to be a house servant, they even had it better than the field hands.
@KentuckRoad bullshit! there isn't a black person alive who grew up in my era that ever heard their grandparents talk of slavery as "not all that bad". u are a liar. maybe before u assume,u should have asked the people who were fortunate enough to make the atlantic passage if they would have rather been back in africa or better yet ask any black person today if given the choice would u choose to be a slave in america back in year 1799 or live during that time in africa. u are a moron!
@gabrielle48174 My ancestors owned a plantation in Virginia during the period and also during the colonial period. I have articles where my ancestors slaves thought so much of my ancestor that they named their children after my ancestors children. Sure it was hard, I don't aim to say that it wasn't hard work, but the slaves were compensated. One of my ancestors slaves wanted to get married, my ancestor gave them a plot of land with a small house and even allowed them to grow a garden.
@KentuckRoad ...and my ancestors were owned ,so not a plot, garden or one thinking they had the best intentions was compensation enough for sun up to sundown hard forced field labor. I am sure there were some plantations kinder than others but a wise man once said if someone stuck a knife in your back 5 inches and pulled it out 2inches, would u call that progress? Slavery has existed throughout history and I doubt very seriously if it was intended to EVER benefit the slave. Have a good one.
@gabrielle48174 I agree with KentuckyRoad. The plantation system offered a structured and legal system (under the same US flag that flies over Washington today!).History always has sacrifices, from the first pioneering settlers to Africans brought from Spanish slave traders. Thanks to the system, Africans eventually were integrated into the greatest nation ever created. Quit ranting over the 'wrongs' and look at the 'rights' you have because of it.
@plantationmuscleboy sweetheart, there will be no back ann forth dialogue between you and I because from your comment and the cheesy screenname,it is clear you suffer from a case of thinking too highly of yourself......have a good one also.
@gabrielle48174 I'm just an honest guy. We all feel protected now that we know Youtube has a user that can both diagnose esteem levels and determines where the bar is set for screen-names. As for the dialog, I'm saddened that you won't be engaging in intellectual conversation. You had so much to gain! This ideology of playing a victim all the time must make you feel inferior. Like the southern planter, I'm inspired to be the best of the best. Plus, we smell and look much better than most.
@plantationmuscleboy You got a sweetheart, I got a moron, I feel bad. :( LOL You have some good points there though in both your posts. As a child of the South, with ancestors to appreciate their way of life, we all should be inspired to be the best we can be. Just because I dream of the Plantation Days of my ancestors, doesn't make me a bad person. That is just my favorite period of history. The Old South is always in my mind. Everyone should be proud of their ancestry, Black or White!
@KentuckRoad -- Listen to yourself here. "... And even allowed them to grow a garden." SERIOUSLY? ALLOWED THEM TO GROW A GARDEN? Tell me, exactly how would you feel if someone ALLOWED YOU TO GROW A GARDEN? Would that endear them to you? Would you think it a wonderul way to live?
to be honest there wasn't much difference between the life of a slave and the life of a worker in the major cities with the only exception that they were free to leave when they wanted and they couldn't be fysically punished. However, all jobs for the lower classes were the same, miserable thing.
That being said i would rather work like a dog but be free.
People in the North were just as racist as people in the South, but the only difference is that the North didn't believe in slavery. Here an analogy: Some people are against dogs being chained up (north's attitude towards blacks) and some people believe that the dog should be chained (south's attitude towards blacks) But there is a common concept shared by white northerners/southerners: blacks are dogs and are inferior. This is why they didn't accept Virgilia's marriage to a black man Grady.
@bravesfanforever31 I think it was also because of economic reasons. It is mentioned somewhere in the beginning of the series when a guy (his name was Fiske I believe) from West Point hates Orry because he's a Southener. He's against slavery not particulary because of humanitary reasons but because his parents' farm couldn't face the concurrence from the South. I don't know if you've seen the movie Glory? It shows the Northern point of view towards black people and it's pretty racist too. :p
What exactly do you mean? "Without sacrifice, there's no reward". I wouldn't dare ARRANGE marriage for my daughter or anyone for that matter, for power, it's disgusting and DEVILISH. She hasn't lost her mind, she's representing till the death of it. She's a RIDER, for the cause!!!
you seem to have replied to the wrong post. I never said "Without sacrifice, etc.". It must have been someone else, so I don't know exactly what that person means.
Yes, she is... but many times, despite sacrifice, there is no reward either. at least in Virgilia´s case. her story was suffering until the very end, misunderstood by everybody but one and this one was killed.
You're right., She is truly arrogant and obnoxious, which is too bad as people like that have a hard time bringing people over to their causes. Virgilia is passionate, but also selfdestructive because she has no tact or selfrestraint.
I cant believe John Brown was a white man he had to be half black for what he did. The white are genetically evil.
