  • thank you so much :) im really a beginner and i wish to learn ballet butthere is no dancing school near my area .. your videos really helped me ^^ thanks

  • shall we dance!!!

  • Wow, by reading some of the comments here i can get an idea about why anorexia is more and more common on this days...

i think u are amazing and i love ur videos!!

  • Everyone just shut up about her dangg weight.

  • guys, seriously? making fun of someones weight is the most disrespectful thing everr! get a life and leave this woman alone, this helped me, shes a good teacher, everyone has flaws and who cares about weight????????? you dont need to be skinny to dance, you need to have passion and love dance, which she does!

  • man, pepole need to stop with the whole weight thing. nobody needs to be thin just because their doing ballet. trust and believe, i was in ballet once.

  • Thanks this really helped!

  • @Yuffie3982 and that 'forcing' is NOT bad, in fact it is making my bones and joints stronger. only way to do perfect turnout is in demiplie THEN straighten and hold. the mass of body and bones themselves is holding the position NOT the muscles! ballet is training the nerves and not muscles. No such thing as "muscle memory" its nerve memory. I discovered this. Turnout is simpler and easier, then you can work on upper body but please go to lulu dot com search for AXIOMS of Classical Ballet.

  • usually athletes that worked really hard when they were young that stop for a period of time gain weight faster because they are not burning as many calories.

And who cares. She's perfectly fine!

  • WTF dosent even matter what size u r if u love dancing then that is the only fucking thing that matters

  • Time for a revolution in ballet... I found that it is simpler and faster to turnout by placing the feet positions first then that makes the thighs respond to the proper position. All positions of the legs are DEFINED by where the feet are, not the thighs.

  • @USABEAT Maybe this is simpler and faster as you put it, but the reasoning as to why this is incorrect in ballet is because it's not safe! That would "forcing" a turn-out and unnatural. If people do this on a regular basis, it creates knee strain/injury, and their hips will never learn to open up to their full extent. Sometimes things in life take hard work and dedication, there isn't an easy way to do it or a quick way to perfect it!

  • @trappedinside1 Everyone knows that forcing turnout is injurious. I thought that true but something else true, my body responded properly-trick is do carefully from bottom up & inside out give body time to relax to demand-in demiplie perfect feet position then straighten knees gently pause - experience THEN straighten pelvis. Joints r very strong & senior to muscles (meaning muscles obay them) go to "lulu(dot)com" and search my booklet about this and the other Axioms of ballet-I like yr name.

  • I have a question.

What do I need to have a width of bands such as it is in ballet shoes?

  • She is wonderful! She tries really hard to explain basic of the ballet and it is going great to her!

I used to dance ballet in elementary school, so I know what I am talking about.

All supports, just keep going with your internet lessons! =)

  • well the styles are different but the basic technique is the same...technique has nothing to do with the style...

  • My Ballet teacher was in the NYC ballet and was trained at Julliard, She used to yell at me all the time about this, Turing out if done properly is done with a hip and butt, its both not one or the other. Its all about keeping your shoulders square and squaring off the hips! There is no way she could go in to this is a 2 minute clip, If you really want to learn ballet take a class.

Also there are different styles of ballet, Russians dance different then the french, so quit nitpicking.

  • @ybunnygurl Lets keep this simple, ballet is defined by the feet position and that is turnout, just put your feet in that perfect position (with bent knees, that is the only way a body and their feet can make that position) but if you bend your knees then EVERYONE can do a perfect 1st. THEN straighten up your knees, don't worry about trying to turn out from the hips or the butt, just put feet in position and carefully straighten, give body time to adjust, IT WILL and you will be amazed!

  • @ybunnygurl No one knows about ballet really (except me! Joke!) but the point is there is tons of false data out there and pretended knowledge about ballet. I have made the first breakthrough in advance of understanding this art form in over 200 years! The TRUE purpose of turnout and how to SAFELY perfectly turnout (by anyone); and more, go to lulu dot com and search for Axioms of Classical Ballet - this is NEW DATA never before known, just in time, ballet is a dying swan help me revive it!

  • ok...turnout comes from the butt NOT the hip if you turn out from the hip you will eventually need the replaced...not kidding.

This is also not a sickled foot a sickled foot is when the outside of you rankle sticks out(she shows a crunched foot.

I am not saying this to be mean...she is simply not teaching correctly.

  • @catluva463 my thoughts exactly

  • So many things wrong with this video! Who is this woman?

  • This is sick... I mean, why do you want to learn Ballet at YOUTUBE?!

  • @MuziekFan1995 dude, some people cant afford lessons, or they arent available to do them. this is a great way to do it for free, of course its not nearly as affective as lessons, but people who watch these are going to learn something.

  • @ellajaymass I'm on ballet, and this just doesn't look good. I mean,I know some people can't afford ballet lessons, me too, but I have a job, at the age of 15, to get some money for ballet lessons. Maybe an idea for the people who can't afford it? Lessons in real are WAY more better than on youtube.

  • what is she wearing?

  • sickled foot looks funny lol =p made me laugh

  • hey im 13 year old girl 5 ft 7 and 120 lbs i cant point my toes i actually have a disability in my left foot i cannot point it very far because the top of my ankle is "locked" O_o I'm not really flexible, but I would like to do ballet. I'm not looking to be a professional, I just want to be good at at and get onto pointe shoes i guess......

Do yous think I would be able to do it? I would be very committed :)

  • @xXDenverXx1 Yes, you probably could. I got knee surgery, and really want to do ballet. (always wanted to but my knee prevented me). So currently i'm working on my strength to prepare for classes. I'm sure you can find a good teacher to pay special attention to your disability, and help you achieve your dreams. :)

  • @Elodee123 :D thanks for tha encouragement :) its very much appreciated xx

  • @xXDenverXx1 No problem :) I know how it feels. Soon i'm going to stop by a studio and see how soon i can get in, and if my current disability will be an issue. And also if they teacher can help me a little more because of it. Good luck! :)

  • @Elodee123 thanks haha and good luck to u too :)

  • Her firts position of the arms is INCORRECT. Holding two balls? Where did ths woman learn ballet? Get those hands closer together, you should imagine holding one ball, not two.

And you are right catherine, a sickled foot is not what she describes.

But then this is Youtube so you should always take this sort of free advice with a pinch of salt. Bottom line: pay for a proper teacher.

  • WAIT a seconddd......that is not a sickled foot??

Sickled is when your heel is behind your toe.. like when your foot turns in...you need to put your heel forward.

Am I crazy?? That isn't a sickeld foot is it? That is more similar to like...wrapped?

  • @TheSweetieflower Dancers have big legs because their muscles are quiet huge:P

  • how is the correct form to get the turning out of the leg? wich exercise can you do if you dont know anything about ballet??

  • to all who studied BALLET... you know what,, you are very LUCKY.. because i dreamed to become a BALLERINA.. but we can't AFFORD it.. i still remember when i watch a ballerina when i was 5 or 6,, i told my self.. i will be ONE of them... Yet.. here i am.. 19 years old and still not know how to do ballet, see how graceful they move..ah!! it feels like heaven,, i know all the suffering all the body pains.. but hey..at the end of the day you can say to your self" I DID IT i dance with may heart"

  • @gitthy I started studying ballet at age 22, and auditioned for dance-academy at age 25...!! I got accepted and I'm still studying(I'm 28 now!). Dreams CAN come true..! And I can't afford it neither, I got a scholarship! Go for it! It is to late if you want to become a professional ballet dancer, but it's not to late to become a jazz/urban/modern dancer/teacher/choreographer....! xoxox

  • @gitthy I feel you. I've always wanted to do ballet, I even watched the other girls learn it through the glass window outside when I was still 6 or 7.

But I can't afford lessons, so I'm now 14 and every time I see or hear the word ballet, I'd always wonder what would've happen if I were able to learn it. Those who are given the opportunity to study ballet are really lucky.

  • @Naynay622 ..if you live near Phila Pa I have a studio and work with you on the fee

  • @gitthy Taking classes isn't too expensive...Considering you have a computer and internet that means you at least can afford things such as that. Babysit, get a job, there are some studios that you could probably work with a payment plan. Or maybe just take a couple classes at a rec center. those are cheap. So stop bitching, and go out and do the things you want to do! You're 19! Yeah, my mom wouldn't pay for my classes either. But I find ways to make ends meet. Because I actually WANT to do it.

  • @gitthy Need I add you go to a university. Somehow you managed money for that. Perhaps because that's something you wanted, and found a way to achieve it? Good job. Now do that with ballet.

  • @gitthy I believe we want to dance as an advancement of our powers as humanbeings that make us want to sit up, crawl, walk, run, jump, its an evolutionary advancement. It is not frivolous at all, and being put into an art form is icing on the cake! It is right to want to dance! You can learn the head, heart, arms and hands on your own at home, the material does not yet exist to guide motivated person to learn task. I aim to fill need. Go to lulu dot com search for 'axioms of ballet' &sample it

  • To a Ballerina Mistress named Connie Hale--

An armful of roses to you for putting this up. Ballet, so endlessly demanding, consuming... such a lifelong sacrifice... any information distributed for the baby ballerinas, to prep the youngers for the life is always appreciated.

Ballerinas dream of donning toe shoes. It's a right of passage.

And to those who are just itching to go out and buy a pair of pointes...

Merde, Good luck, and see you in class, Dane Youssef

  • correct. incorrect. correct. incorrect. do us all a favor and shut the hell up.

  • Wow you people are so annoying and mean just chill

  • for your infomation

turnout doesnt come from the hip its the inside thigh muscles =_=

and when you turn out you hips turn to the side the hips must be in a straight line like your hips are a box and your not pushing your tail bone down and your not pulling up and your not squeaseing in your thighs! oye alot of you people are horrible thinking you can do ballet =.=

  • bravo, i agree

  • At least she is tryin!!! and it may help sum1 sumwhere and if u think u can do better than u upload a video! lets not slabber about people :) x

  • what the fuck is slabber? hahaha.

  • @XLive4christX ....I teach ballet - not for anyone with the videos - but- you can injure yourself if you do the moves incorrectly - that's what all the fuss it about

  • expert village = crap!

even the ice skatin one, is crap.

and the melbourne shuffle one, is crap to.

just crap. nuffin more, nuffin less.

    :) thatsjsutmyopinion;p

  • arms at the end are not good at all, so far from earch other.

  • You do NOT want to look as if you are laying your arms on a table. That looks yucky.

  • That's not a sickled foot . . .

  • You are correct. That is not sickled foot...it's simply a crunched foot

  • @BetsyBo55

I agree those are just crunched toes

  • no no no. Apparently Expert Village has NO standards, and anyone can call themselves an expert. This is wrong on so many levels.

  • everyone always rags so hard on these videos and it's terribly funny ahaha.

She has really bad ballet hands, they look manly and not graceful whatsoever.

  • they need to stop posting ballet videos its not on people are paid to teach ballet and shes not showing people how to warm up its just basic someones going to do something bad to themselves eg: pull muscle if they dont warm up!!!

  • do u do flips in ballet

  • no you dont

  • No. Maybe in modern jazz or lyrical but not ballet.

  • turn out i'm suprised she knows the meaning

  • Are you a Ballerina? Humility and graciousness are qualities you may have missed along the way.

  • im being honest if shes gonna do it shes gotta do it rite trust me i know what im talking about and dont say stuff about people you dont know!

  • she has nice legs but the vido is ehh

  • you shouldnt learn ballet from the internet...

  • Awsome!

  • Anyone can dance & alot of dancers have alot of pressure with being thin & having the perfect body type as a dancer!!! If you have the heart, people can see right thru that!!!

  • i cant turn out good

  • Omg! you guys are just rude if you are any shape or size you can do ballet you know ur just internet bashers and if you ask me thats childish rude, and cowardish

  • amen!

  • Comment removed

  • it may not be the best video but guys seriously....dont be rude cuz of some ones weight and passion. thats just low!

  • @HappyDancerina hi i think your right i do it and i am 11 and i am 6 stone and i am not fat but good

  • che grassa!!!!!

  • loser. what can you do besides put people down?

    anyone can dance, asshole.

  • good narrator, but she sucks guiding it. her food is barely pointed....

  • yeh! also shes not turning out her supporting leg.

  • i couldn't rate it any lower in which it diserves. . .

  • Ummmmmmmmmmm, both legs NEED TO BE TURNOUT when explaining, and that is NOT a sickled foot. Thats called crunching the toes; sickling is when you fully point your foot and the toes and the ankle joint are facing inward.

  • I think she said that's a sickled foot because it looks like a sickle. I'm glad I didn't look at this video when my instructor told me about my foot problem.

  • bahah shes crap

her first is like up at her neck. her hip was like wide open when shetook a tendu to the back. and her sickle is not a sickle, what she did's called crunching your toes. a sickle is not having correct alignment in your foot. and she didnt go through her metatarsles at all. guys first position is meant to be the width of your head and in line with your belly button!

    baha this was SO funny

    x

  • thought sickling was when your toes pointed inward towards your other foot when you point your toes?

  • Actually for the basic's of ballet, she's pretty good.

  • this video is the biggest incorrect i have seen!!!!!! you should not put anymore videos, cause your doing more damage then helping out. this is not teaching at all. this is very sad.

  • Can anyone please post a simple ballet waltz step with the demonstrator facing the back so I can learn it. Thanks in advance.

  • terrible! i trained at a classical ballet school in england and she is bad. her body, feet, everything about her could never be a ballet dancer so why did they use her out of all the talented dancers there are in the usa???

  • OPINION: I don't think she deserves such an array of insults. I mean, expert village is just one source; They just want to get some basic info out to people who are trying to learn ballet from YOUTUBE!!! what do you expect? it's like wikipedia, it's like the whole friggin' internet: it's not ALL true.

Also, all you "dancer/ballet" user name people come off as extremely pretentious and it turns me off to the whole idea of taking ballet. why would I want to spend time with pretentious a-holes?

  • omg,u took the words right out my mouth!

    ty-

  • too right!

in fact I found it quite helpful (:

  • @grandmastatus I dont think insulting is right but you should understand if there is any frustration it is because of the art that is being insulted and the art is a part of us... we feel insulted. And btw, ballet is pretentious. Lol. Cant get around that but those who know what they are talking about get respect BECAUSE they know what they are talking about. Ballet is a disclipline. Kind of like being a ninja. Its tough. So if you cant hang, go hard or go home. its not for sissy's ;)

  • @grandmastatus liked your comment because you're right, even if I'm a ballet dancer. I'm sorry that you have that idea of all ballet dancers or dancers.. They're not all like this. I can assure you!

    Keep in touch

  • If you are going to post a video like this you should at least know what your talking about and have a decent dancer to demonstrate.

  • She's clearly no expert. My teachers have told be the opposite.

  • all of the information given in this clip is wrong.

  • Terrible.

  • you start turning out from your butmuscles not from your hip .

and she has to keep her hips still

  • yeah not so good.

  • Pshhhhhhhhhhhhhh! This Is Awfull!!!! If You Listen To This Novice Well GOOD LUCK! I Just cant Stand How Bad This Is I Dont Wanna tallk Bout it .... anddddd she needs to loose some wieght =]

  • This is not proper ballet instruction in the US or any other country I know of. This video needs to be deleted before someone who doesn't know any better hurts their body.

  • yeah, the turn out thing is so wrong, the hips must stay in their place. At tne begining 0:20 , she says: 'when we say turn out is starting from the hip, you need to turn out from the hip' she knows nothing about the tecnique.

  • LOL! That's why Russians are so much better at ballet)))

they wouldn't even let her inside a ballet academy!

  • Real American ballet studios don't do this. Professional American ballet dancers are equal in talent and ability to Russian professional dancers. Open your eyes and educate yourself.

  • This video makes me so upset. That is not first position for the arms, a sickled foot is most certainly not a scrunched toe, and her foot is bouncing around on all her tondus. Teachers like this is the reason ballet is becoming so horrible these days.

  • I agree, this is not how it's taught in England.

Also, this woman is too overweight to teach.

  • very bad ...sorry

  • Okay, she can't even do a good turn out. When you turn out your legs, your hips HAVE TO stay square! Otherwise your simply NOT learning how to do it correctly!

  • like your holding two balls.... WHAT????? HAHA

  • it is annoying!!!

  • oh thats annoying with this stupid "correct" "incorrect"

and learn to turn out without your hips.

  • trueee she cannt even dooo aaaa goood turn outtttttt ur hipss are supposee to beeee straight noott turning with your legg everyone knows that....dont listen to her ive been takin ballet for 3 years now she knows nothinnnng not even the basics.

  • lmao! her hip moves out when she "turns out"

  • haha, ur deluded if u think u no what right and wrong is, because all of ur examples were rong! ur never point ur foot, a sicle is not scrunching of the toes, there two different things dumbass! ur first position in ur arms were herrendous, they were too far apart, so in conclusion, this was a very crap video.

  • She is NOT correct. Sickled foot, first position of the arms are completely wrong.

  • Did you notice that when she turns out her hip goes out too???

  • she'e not fat. she just has a little meat on her. & i don't believe she ever said she was the best or in any competitions herself, she was simply showing us the do's and don'ts.

  • There is a BIG difference between mainstream average and ballet average sizes. She is MASSIVE by ballet standards and she would never be accepted into a company of any size, unless it's a small/unpopular one dedicated to larger female dancers. Ballet requires a smaller body for a reason. This woman's jumps would be heavier, slower, more labored, her turns won't be as crisp, lifting her leg will always take more effort, no male dancer will be able to lift her with ease. That's just how it is.

  • I have to disagree with virtually everything you just said. It is true, men do have to life women so weight may be an issue at times, but the rest doesn't relate to size, it relates to technique.

  • What would you know about TURN OUT??

  • what about ner supporting leg, it was practicly straight.

    stop posting ballet videos!

    GET A LIFE!

  • Since when should you be able to you drive a bus between the gap between your hands in First position? And i agree ladies - what world has she come from where that is sickling?! Saying that, this is better than the last 'Expert Village' clip i saw - check out the 'How do do beginning ballet steps' series by them if you really want to laugh/cry! AWFUL!

  • LMAO!!!

  • Why are some of you people defending her. She has some things correct, but she should not be teaching ballet. Thats not what a sickled foot looks like.

  • what's your problem people? these are the basic ballet "rules", she may not be explaining it too good, but what she says is very true, for exapmle: you do need to turn out your leg from the hip, and your elbows should be sticking down in first position, maybe her hands are a little too high and apart, but this is the BASICS

  • She IS right but you know, it looks like she doesn't know HOW to do it! Ballet dancers have to be fit!

  • Hang on...BASIC ballet rules if anything should be explained correct, no? Otherwise you won't have the correct arm positions to work from (in this case) she should NOT teach basics unless HER basics are 100% correct, and that 1st position of her arms is not correct. Elbows up is good, but the space in between the hands is too big.

Don't get me started on the "sickled" (????) foot, it is only her toes crunching, sickling is something totally different

phew, enough of ballet today for me

  • What the... I don't think she knows what shes doing at ALL. I doubt shes even had any experience with classical ballet! D: her sickled foot looks like crud.

  • uhhh.... well I think we all agree that what she is doing is completely wrong. Want more proof? I think her "dancer" physique says it all.

  • That is soooo not a sickled foot!

And looking at her arms in 1st position was painful, evvrything she just did incorrect!

  • i know i don't even think she does ballet, because everything she did was incorrect!!!

  • This video is annoying the hell out of me... first position is at your belly button not your chest!!!! And that's not called a sickled foot!!

  • WHAT?? This is so wrong. All of it. And that's not what a sickled foot looks like at all! Her port de bras sucks too.

  • I am a dancer. A classical ballet dancer. I have trained under very respectable and notable teachers. You are giving an entirely wrong definition of a sickled foot. Your arms are ridiculously high and quite far apart. Also, your standing leg as you tendue to the back was very turned in. Are you a ballet dancer? I'm baffled what you are trying to teach people...?

  • uhmmm what's with the correct incorrect???

  • ew fkin ew

  • ugh wtf? this is so wrong wrong wrong wrong! Why does this channel post such incorrect videos?

  • AAAAAAAA

    WTF is she doing????

  • christ that was painful!

incorrect, correct! IT WAS STILL INCORRECT!!!!!!!!!!

    sickle my ass.

    faggot.

  • ew what the hell?

WRONG!!!!!!!! Shit son, take some lessons

  • omg that is not a sickle!

and the arms are way too high

  • omg r u serious get some lessons

i think that u should try doing ballet for 10 year sthen make a vid jus like i have :)

  • sooo rong

i dont even think she does ballet!!!

    very rong

  • im a beginner and even i kno wot she is sayin is wrong!!

  • everything is wrong!

her hands should be lower than her elbow in first position, her fingers are wrong, she needs to be square, and she turns out too much while going to the back. plus, a real dancer would keep their feet turned out while dancing.. not go straight again in between steps... i would find that feeling odd. she cant be a dancer, most definitely not a teacher.

  • thank you

  • that was not a sickle foot. i dont know why she called that a sickle foot. A sickle foot is when its opposite to 'fishing'' in stead of having your toes flaring out, your foot is turning inwards...

  • eurgh she is vile! she twists her hip, gives up the supporting leg and her hands were just all over the place

  • esta super guauuuuuuu

    chido

  • is it me or her hands just horrible when she's showing the 'correct' arm positions? and she's twisted too much when she's pointing to the back!

  • yeah! tottaly agree w. u!

  • Suggest this is NOT a video to use if you are trying to learn ballet on your own! She has totally neglected her supporting leg. Not good.

  • absolutely my point honey! of course you gotta have the foot totally pointed out but beginners may lose all focus on their arm movements like i was insisting to a bunch of dropouts in my own salon! they now tune into more operatics we have called them the operatic filth and they deserve it even though i love opera totally! neoclassical devolution forever!

  • i feel so damn awful connie is wonderful and is only trying her best! but that is not the way to teach toe pointing to beginners they are just gonna lose all arm co ordination and end up becoming morbidly into those robot like new age losers there is no fluence in any recent gross stuff ive seen anywhere it is not connies fault though i feel so bad! because the pique and releve are awesome!

  • youre twisting youre hip too much when you point your foot to the back

  • also u should have ur hand lower than ur elbow

  • terrible... how can she teach something she dosn't know?

  • Great video, i like it so much!!!

  • what is not turn-out !?!?

    ^^ 8-:

  • she should work on her technique before she trys to teach. hips unsquared is just as bad as not turning out. and that was not a sickled foot. it wasn;t a nice foot. but it wasn't a sickled foot either.

  • 0:01

  • this is poor...
