Imagine what it would be like to have Christopher Lee as your grandpa and read you stories before going to be when you're a kid. *shudders* boy, those would be some scary-shit nightmares afterwards...
Just to be fair, people get awards from all around the world for some really stupid ass reasons. Obama getting the nobel peace prize for being black and Al Gore for taking credit for scientists hard work. After looking at Lee's history he obviously deserves to be knighted, but not because the nations royalty is are big fans of celebrities. Be consistant at least and if you're gonna knight Elton John, knightOzzy Osbourne. Hell Knight the fictional character Doctor Who. He saves the Universe.
Not to take anything away from Lee at all but.. The brits KNIGHT people for some stupid ass reasons. Services to Drama... Come On Really?? Charity.. a better reason, but millions of people donate to charity.. Hmm.. how about you knight him for the fact he served your country in the Royal Air Force in WW2 and worked with SIS (MI6).. Sorry but being a Knight reminds me of someone who is recognized for their military leadership in a time of warfare rather than a star on the hollywood walk of fame
@bobblesworth So you think serving your country in war and things associated with it, is more important than creating art help the needy and promote peace?
@kaUsiki When it comes to defending your entire way of life in a time of dire need and enlisting to save your entire country from the Nazi invasion in WW2... yes I believe so buster.
@64supermarioreturns It's reasonably well documented. He feels they've overshadowed his career and prefers not to talk about them at length. I think I heard him say it got to the point where he was accepting more Dracula roles to basically keep the film crews in work!
Halloween is purely American. other countries and cultures have something similar or different days. Just because he doesn't know when exactly an American holiday is held just makes him more.. well.. British?
wow, way back in 2009---never heard of this....maybe cause usa media too obsessed with zereo celebs, who are more famous and richer, who aren't worthy to wipe lee's butt.
@IFreakSlide it's less painful when you're younger, it seems. in my 30s I notice stuff like this all the time and I think it's worse than it is. my favorite actor ever was Peter Cushing yet I didn't notice that he died in the early 90s. when you're young, you're too busy than notice stuff like this, so many things to do and see. when we get older, we get to sit back and remember our favorite actors of our youth and we want to relive our youth and wants our favorite actors keep on living.

dear mr. Jackson. Please finnish all the scenes with Christopher Lee in The Hobbit movies now so you don't need to get a new actor for the role as Saruman if something should happend to Lee.
He claims to be a polyglot but he would not pass in a schoolboy exam in most, if not all, the languages he is supposed to speak other than English.
One thing people who have worked with Christopher Lee will tell you is that whatever you claim to be good at, he can do one better. He is his own best fan.
I boycotted Peter Jackson's third installment of his thouroughly boring Ring's trilogy when I found out that he cut Christopher Lee out of the last film. As great as some of the other actors were...
what would have been the point seeing it without Christopher Lee?
What a liar. Of course he invented halloween. He also created royalty and killed Hitler with his voice. This man is a legend of every generation ever.
J.F. F. Dé Pintor.
Christopher Lee is being modest. He did invent Halloween. He was alive in England all those centuries ago. He said to the Druids regarding the last harvest season of the year, call it Samhain. They wanted to call it Clifford.
Vampires today is not about sucking their victim's blood its about making a relationship with a female human and produce a hybrid child together. WTF?
Actually he's not in his late 80's. In fact he's over 400 years old minimum !! Greatest Dracula ever, when vampires were actually vampires, not sparkling fags !
Christopher Lee is so great, he is better than Cary Grant was, better than Harrison Ford is, better than James Mason was, better than Robert Redford is, better than David Niven was, He beats many.
Along with his awesome acting roles, music roles, that have given entertainment and joy to the world and charity work, I just found out he was a soldier and secret agent during WWII.
He along with James Bond creator Ian Fleming and his inspirations for M, Q, Miss Moneypenny and the Vesper Lynd planned and carried out hundreds of missions including one where they destroyed an experimental nazi nuclear weapons lab.
@sasukmania Yes I believe his titles before his knighthood are Sith Lord, the White Wizard head of the White council, Count of Transylvania, and Man with the Golden Gun.
That mentioning of Halloween made me cringe. Really, this man has done so much since he played "You Know Who." Can he get a brake and just be seen as the wonderful actor that he is now, with the great work he has done now? Just had to say that. :)
@Kotlettbengt Foreign people can be Knighted but are not allowed to use the prefix 'Sir' (Or Dame if a woman) unless they are subjects of the Queen I E British or Commonwealth. People who are not the Subject of the Queen who gets knighted can use the prefix if they then later become British or Commonwealth citizens. Non subjects still get the honour to use letters after their surnames so for instance Bog Geldof would be Bob Geldof KBE (Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire).
I pray for Christopher Lee that he might be saved through Jesus Christ.. I pray that he would repent of all his witchcraft and satanic movies AKA THE WICKER MAN 1 and 2. I pray he see that though he has power from satan in the end he will perish. FOR GOD SO LOVED CHRISTOPHER LEE THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGGOTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVE IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE
Lee should have been knighted long ago for his outstanding service (he volunteered with the Finnish forces against the Russians, he was in the Royal Air Force Long Range Desert Group against Germany and Italy and he made his way into the secret service, his war career alone was more exciting than most movies).
For his artistic and charity work he should have been made a king.
And now he is a heavy metal musician with an album slated for 2011.For God's sake is there anything this man can't do.
Christopher Lee didn't "droll on" in a thick accent as you would know if you had seen any of his films. He spoke with his own accent. Lugosi was big in theatres but he didn't originate the part. Also Bela doesn't have a prominant "widow's peak" though he does have one as do many Dracula's as they are commonly seen when the hair is swept back... a look that originated in the stage play before the great Bela took the role.
Also many Draculas don't have Hungarian accents (most in fact) such as Louis Jourdan, Frank Langhella, Klaus Kinski, Jack Palance, John Carradine and Udo Keir.
Only Roxburgh in the terrible 'Van Helsing' and Oldman in Coppola's 'Dracula' are major Draculas that have Hungarian accents.
@HimWotMustBeObeyed Leslie Nielsen had a spoof foreign accent in 'Dracula, Dead And Loving It' and I think George Hamilton may have in 'Love At First Bite', though they were comedies and only the former was based on the novel itself.
@TheLordOfTheWorms Bela Lugosi didn't either. For one thing Bram Stoker did when he wrote the novel but on film there was Max Schrek before Lugosi and in the theatre there had been a few Draculas anyway. Lee brought Dracula to life in colour in his era and his Dracula film is still THE classic in most countries other than North America where it has competition from the Lugosi film. Go to any country from France to Japan and Lee is *THE* Dracula to many, many people.
@HimWotMustBeObeyed Yes Bram Stoker did write Dracula, however, in 1931 when Lugosi was casted, HE was the one who created what you thinks of when you think of Dracula. ALSO, Lugosi was huge in theatre as Dracula. He had the widows peak & his hungarian accent is why any Dracula speaks the same. He created the mold for how the world pictures Dracula. So when Lee got his widows peak, and as he drolled on in a thick accent, it was based on Lugosi's preformance, just like every other Drcula since 31
@TheLordOfTheWorms No need to be so offensive. You could have gotten your point across without having to swear and insult. It does not matter who brought Dracula to life. Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee played Dracula very well.
Goodness I adore Christopher Lee. As a child in the 70's I was allowed to watch the Hammer Horror double bill on a Saturday night (my nan allowed me, my parent disappoved!). When he appeared as Dracula I was mesmerised by him and have followed his career ever since. What a man, actor, legend. This knighthood so deserved. Wow!
He's like the most iconic regal villian type. And what he said is true...known to every generations, I had never heard of him until Star Wars.....but backing tracking through time, he's been good in everything.
Ok, so if Dracula, Scaramanga, Saruman, and Count Dooku got into a 4 way death match, who would win?
his voice and actualy the whole person of him makes me...kinda tear....i wish i had him as my grandpa :-) !!
