All I can say is you need to come up here to Alaska and go knock on doors. Sounds to me you are headed in the right direction, now take your interest and ambitions and put them into gear. Best of luck to you! There is nothing better than flying in the wilds of Alaska!
Great video, i am working on my PPL at the moment, my dad runs our family cropdusting business and i plan on taking that over one day, i have always dreamed up learning or being able to fly with bush pilots, is there any pilots that have people working on the ground loading planes or doing anything to help, i would love to spent some time in alaska learning and helping someone out, do you have any recomendations?
ZeKing, I don't work with any schools as there are no "bush pilot" schools anywhere. You have to have about a minimum of at least 500 to 1500 hours logged as a pilot BEFORE almost anyone will bring you aboard. But don't let that spoil your dream. Work at it and down the road, you'll then have the minimum qualifications to be considered. Consider moving to Alaska, get your training from any given flight school here and then you are at least headed in the right direction. Good luck!
Absolutely not! There are a number of facilities that want rather low-time pilots to fly up in Alaska. In that manner, they can train them not to develop bad habits etc. Alaska flying is VERY special and rewarding and for women pilots, you will have a wonderful career! It is what brains and talents you have that makes you a good pilot. Make sure you check out the brand new DVD "Alaska's Bush PilotsThe Real Deal, Commercial Operations". It is made for people like yourself.
@highriskphoto I am also very interested in becoming a bush pilot. I am currently in my last year of school and this would be a dream come true. I would be very greatfull if you could send me a link to one of those facilities. All i need to do now is to come up with some money for a pilots licence.
I want to be a pilot . I think I want to be a bush pilot . Yes , many people say that it's hard and it's really no place for a girl , but I am one of those girls who take life by the horns . lol Do you have to have US Air Force training for this ?
I wish there were more videos like this. Most of the guys doing this are not guys with alot of time and money on their hands but rather hard working stiffs that also happen to be damn good sticks.
You're right on target with your comments. I know, some of these guys are my best friends and they work their rears off 16-18 hours a day/7 days a week.
Thanks for your comment but I would have to disagree with you sir. If your thought was right, then could you explain if this is so easily done with time and money, why is it that Alaska has the highest fatality rate in the entire nation in aviation? Easy? There is nothing "easy" about flying in Alaska. I've been a pilot for 39 years and found some realities along the way. How about you? How long have you been flying and how long have you flown up here in Alaska?
@highriskphoto 32 years and if you had been here for 39, you would know the FAA and safety oriented pilots and groups have been trying to get rid of the Bush pilot mentality for years. It was an ERA and I do know some guys that where the real thing. They are the ones that have explained it to me. If you don't like it take if up with them! At their age they won't be around much longer!

Oh horse Hockey! The bushy pilot era is long past. These guys just fly into remote off airport areas. Anyone could do it with enough time and money.

@mitjgreb I ran into a few guys who said similar things when I was flying out of Bethel, anyway they lasted about a week.
