That is incredibly stupid. One thing is that you are sucking lovely hot air in to the engine and making the car far slower. The other is that what you fitted is NOT a filter. It has gapng holes in it allowing dust and muck to sandblast everything. The original paper element and housing is designed for max power.
cwatk is right. BUT there are other ways of upgrading your 430 intake system. Either replace your 430 intake with a CLK55/E55 Intake system, it will give about 12HP. Or what I'm doing is a custom Ram Air intake that pulls its air out of the stock benz cold air inlets.
Not to rain on your upgrade but you may actually see a decrease in performance. I have a 99 CLK430 and if you look at the factory locations for the air intakes, they are perfect. They suck in air directly behind the grill. You replaced the factory cold air intake system with an intake that will bring HOT air off the engine into the air intakes.
Dude, you need a ractive muffler, underglow neon and a HKS blowoff valve to complete that badass build... Pep boys bitch.
