I WAS IN LOVE WITH THIS SONG WHEN IT WAS FIRST RELEASED. I THINK I WAS 12 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME! WHEN MY OLDER SISTER DIED IN 1998, I PLAYED THIS RECORD NON-STOP BUT COULDN'T FIND IT BY FREDDY, SO I PLAYED IT BY MICHAEL MCDOANALD, WHICH ALSO WAS NICE. I LOVE THE SENTIMENT OF THESE LYRICS. NO MORE LIKE THESE TODAY, UNFORTUNATELY. IT'S ALL SEX NOW. SOOOOO SAD!
I will never say "Say So-Long or Goodbye to this version of perfection" Tears are falling from my face 53 years later. Thank you for all of these feelings.
Mr. Scott was the real deal! What a powerful voice and personality. This man should have been up there with Otis, Al Green, etc. R.I.P. Mr. Scott. Your music will live on in our hearts!
Outstanding! I just now favorited this one, the one at BB King's and the original. Oh, I remember 1963 so well, and thought "I'm so lucky to be happy and in love". Little did I know that I'd be singing this song a few years later to "the man that got away". It happens to the best of us - but Freddie made it a little easier and smoother!!
indeed, my pleasure! I love me some FREDDIE SCOTT.....That long train to JACKSONVILLE.....I was born there, moved to Miami at the age of (1) and raised in Miami, Fla..I now reside in Americus, Ga...A small town not far from Albany, Ga (30-35min away.)
This is from PBS' "Soul Celebration: More Soul Baby" DVD. It is apart of the larger music telethons ran on PBS, and produced by TJ Lubinsky. Included in this DVD is Jerry Butler, Ben E. King, James Brown, Kim Weston, Frankie Gaye (Marvin's brother), Sam Moore, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Eddie Floyd, Temptations, the Miracles, the Isley Brothers, Percy Sledge and more.
I am glad you videotaped that 2006 performance. I loved it too. What happened to the end of that performance? The u-tube video ends before the performance.
remember the Tempts version on Cloud Nine album as a child. didn't hear the original version until my late 30's..love this version better. R.I.P. Freddie Scott & also Paul Williams!

His voice was amazing. Great performer, and makes me believe that those kids in American Idol worth nothing compared with the real artists.

If you can't feel this, you have no feeling at all. Freddie was as passionate as a man could be during this performance.

It was in the summer of 1963 when I first heard this beautiful song on the radio while living in NYC at 40 West 135th Street & Lennox Avenue.

Freddie Scott, just on the strength of this song, is immortal in my book.
What a voice! The original record is haunting.

Wow! Thanks for visiting! You father helped invent Rock and Roll, literally. For those who don't know, he wrote "THE TWIST' and invented the dance!
