Is Bono a Bonzo? Why wear those the ridiculous - yellow shades ?? Someone tell him about Wayfarers - please - this childish image makes me feel physically sick. And who is this The Edge - I could show him the Edge! Eight years of it! No one who has been there, wants to tell anyone about it - let alone call themselves by the Name! This is the most preposterous vulgar little pretension imaginable - if I met him I would ........
Stunning, stunning song. One of their all time greats. On a side note, looking at those pictures, I never realised how much Derek Forbes looked like David Sylvian back then!
Why keep comparing U2 with Simple Minds. The early years of SM were totally different to what U2 were playing. Jim, I believe, never wanted all that stadium shit after New Gold Dream. Thats why he has listened to his old followers and set out on three gigs playing all the old material. Get your tickets now.
Gewoon een prachtig nummer, en vergeet nu eens Bono , dit hypocriet personage persifleert zich als wereldverbeteraar , terwijl hij zijn giften fiscaal aftrekt.
I know there's some music I like that others don't, but I just don't get the appeal of this type of music. It feels really boring and repetitive - and I listen to lots of stuff thats repetitive - but for some reason it seems very one-dimensional to me. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up in the 80s?
@miltqllama No that is cool to have your own opinions, but in my opinion, it needs to be listened in a different way that most pop music is listened to - i.e. on the go and finding a 'catchy' riff etc. Without me being patronising, which I hope you don't feel I am, this style is to be immersed within - sitting down, headphones and really hearing the different sounds - it is quite hypnotic to some extent I feel.
Visionary band! There was a time when every new Simple Minds album astonished with it's genius. 'Sons and fascination/Sister feelings call' are as pure and powerful now as when first released. I can remember playing the vinyl releases all those years ago. Is anything as good as this? Tony
@IngoDE Simple Minds are the most underrated band ever... j love also U2,but simple minds are a better live band, there's no match between derek forbes, mel gaynor and adam clayton, larry mullen jr....michael mc neil is simply a Genius!!
ps j saw 15 simple minds gigs (the 1st one in1984) and 14 U2 gigs(the 1st one in 1985)!
Another haunting tune from 'The Minds'. Hard to believe it was not on the original Sons And Fascination release. Not in North America anyway. It was only added years later as a bonus track on a much later CD release.
Great audio on this posting; thank you very much, Argentina.
Simple Minds were in a league of there own in the 80's. No one came close. I used to turn it up loud. lay on the floor with speaker each side of head, night time, and float to the ceiling.
Simple Minds were the most interesting, creative, atmospheric, experimental band of the early eighties. Jim Kerr, in particular, in my opinion, was an enormous inspiration for Bono who was often a back stage guest on tour in the early days.
A great song. Is there anything to say?

Everything went totally wrong after 1984 for them - they needed McNeill and Forbes

I love very much this song.
Before the "boom" with "New Gold Dream...", that time was also very good before the recognize and "mondialisation" that was coming after.
