rip tom bosley. i'm from holland and we never get to see this reunion, so i'm glad that we have internet these days.
I remeber that i watched tv series like this with my parents in the 70's and 80's,
and we loved it. nothing and again, nothing beats the old series and sitcoms that was made in the 60's, 70's and 80's, and i cannot uderstand that they wont make them like that, because advertisers would stand in line to fill up the break with their junk, so money should be no problemo.
Then there was a brief scene with Danny Butch, who played Spike. He sank into obscurity the same way Chuck did. Anybody remember Marsha, the waitress in the early shows? How about Bag?
I'm about to turn 21 and everyone thinks I'm weird for liking this show. Almost as if I'm SUPPOSED to like current tv like American Idol or something.
That song means so much to me, especially the past four years. This song brings back memories when Peter Joyce and Lady Diana and I had some fun back in the early eighties.
I have a lot to say about this for the television et movie et music et literary industry.

What the hell ever happened to Chuck? Remember, he was the older brother of Richie and Joanie. He just sort of disappeared, and even here, Mr. Cunningham says, "...raised 2 wonderful kids..." like Chuck never existed. Very X-Files....

This is one of the great things about YouTube. I remember I missed the "Happy Days" 30th reunion show when it was originally broadcast. May be someday there will be a website where you can find every show from every series or special that was ever broadcast in the history of TV.
I suppose a sports fan would want to be able to locate recordings of every pro game or match or race that was ever broadcast, too.
Ron Howard may be wealthy and successful, but he never has or will forget how he got there, and those he worked with and helped him. He has stayed loyal to both Happy Days and The Andy Griffith Show, participating in reunions and "movies" with his old friends and cast memebrs...this just shows what kind of a man he is and always will be...well done Rance and Jean (r.i.p.)...
It reminds me of something Aaron Spelling said. "Why NOT be appreciative and kind? Is there any other way to be?" Of course, there are other ways to be, but folks like Ron Howard and Henry Winkler hold genuine love for their pasts, and those loving friendships. It's part of who they are, and part of why we loved it in the first place. You can feel it just rubbing off them. It's kinda like the Beatles. When asked why it worked, the answer was it was always about love.
Things that were lost on me before: Winkler kisses Baio on the cheek before it fades into the montage. Also, in the final ep, when all is said and done, Baio gets past everyone to give Winkler a hug. Forgotten are bloopers from the early 80s where an almost 40 yo Fonzie and early 20s Baio are giggling and laughing so hard in bloopers like they're brothers. Lot of love between those two. I love it.
Gary Marshall was and still is, a tough businessman to work with. If you didn't agree with him or worked closely with him, he would kicked you out like you were nothing. If you got along with him and agreed with everything, he would be your friend forever. Gary Marshall was a tough guy to work with, granted, but did he kept the ball rolling with the Happy Days cast.
Great insight from someone who actually worked with him! (Of course, not spelling his name as "Garry" would piss him off, I'm sure). :) Thanks for this, but it must be so hard to keep your vision (which was successful) intact while dealing with masses of writer, actors, and all the while fighting with network execs over the most trivial things. There are sure to be hurt feelings, but the converse is being twisted in the wind by every person in your view. That wouldn't work, either.
When the idea of Happy Days was permitted, Gary Marshall fought every possibility to get it on the air. It was his baby. He was never going to let it go. I remember reading that the execs at ABC were against the idea at first because they thought the new generation(the 70s) wouldn't want a 50s based show. But he fought it and it worked. I remember grandparents being upset when the Fonz unhooked the bra in the pilot episode. This is very true and ridiculous.
I don't think you had to be a grandpa in 1974 to be taken aback by that. That was pretty risque for HD, but it was a racey show in many ways early on (it was helped by the changing shift set by "All in the Family" and others to be daring). It lost that edge later, and became more of a platform for Fonzie to suddenly be a role model, but I still loved the show because I felt such a closeness with the characters. That was the work of the actors and writers, but Garry Marshall was the soul of that.
I thought you were kidding. But, I took a second and third look. And, you're right! The ORIGINAL Chuck was one of the guys rolling out the cake (the one in the red shirt). I don't recognize Chuck #2 here, but, that's a trip. Well, he was invited after all. LMAO
Tom Bosley says, "we raised two wonderful kids," but they had three total. I guess they just dissowned their oldest son and never spoke of him again, right.
I'd like to know the episode where he was "written out." When Ron Howard and Donny Most left the cast, it was explained that they were in the army. What explanation was given for Chuck?
Howard says he and Marion had two kids. I guess Chuck was abducted by space aliens and expunged from their memories. Nice touch when Henry does one last Fonzie trick and shuts of the lights with a well-aimed fist rap.
No need for profanity. Tell me when was Chuck written out of the show? He wasn't killed off. He just wasn't talked about anymore. TOm Bosley once joked on an interview that Chuck "must be attending the University of Mars." At least on other shows, such as My Three Sons, they would make some excuse for a character no longer being there. Happy Days just hoped people would forget all about Chuck. Obviously people didn't.
oh sorry. Well somewhere in the second season he was just gone and never mentioned again. Some say he went to college but then when Tom says he had the joy of raising two kids well what about Chuck. if you message me I can ask my cousin when he was written out.
I don't think any explanation was ever given for Chuck just vanishing. At least other sitcoms have made attempts to explain characters' departures. I suppose Chuck was such a minor character the writers on Happy Days must have figured he wouldn't be missed.
