Always stay confident and if your defensman makes a mistake dont yell at him cuz you need him for the rest of the game. Watch alot of college lacrosse tapes over the summer and study the goalies movements. When you clear look down the field and if nothings open slow it down. Good luck next seasosn.

@btownlaxbro YOU ARE A DUMBASS, goalie isnt about standing around the whole time, they control the defense and have to get in front of a ball that can be getting shot from 70-90 mph(depending on the level you play in) so if you think its so easy how about you try playing it.

Im a middie but i give goalies mad props all the worth they do, i would never say a goalie does nothing. Only thing that sucks more about middie is we have too run so much but besides that were not taking shots that go 80+
I think to be a goalie you have to be a little crazy. But in a good way. My goalie is on of the best players on our team. I wouldn't be as compfterble going after my man if i didn't have him in cage.

@ct9908 lose the elbow pads, sure, if you get hurt it hurts without them, but they hamper your mobility sooo much. Second, buy high top football cleats. they protect your ankles from the balls better, I cot nailed on a bouncer so hard one time I could barely stand, high top cleats help. Don't wear the leg pads or shin pads either. Sure, you're gonna get nailed, and it's gonna hurt, but all those extra pads slow you down. I was starting Varsity goalie for 3 years, and I wore helmet, chest protect
@ct9908 er, cup, gloves and helmet and that's it. My backup had the whole set-up, elbow pads, compression shorts with pads in them, shin guards, and that stuff while you won't walk away bruised, you;ll be slower. Got nailed on my thigh one time so hard the entire inside of my thigh was bruised for weeks, it was nasty looking. Hit so bad it didn't even hurt, it just went numb, but that's gonna happen. Second, take plenty of practice. Find the guy on your team with the best shot and practice with
@ct9908 him for hours. He got to have the best shot by practicing, so I'm sure he won't mind. Especially practice blocking bouncing shots. On turd they're easy to predict, but on grass those balls will bounce wickedly and in ways you can't predict, so get used to that. But that's really your best bet, just get out there and get net time. Even if you can't find anyone from the team to practice with you, just have someone throw the ball at the net. And also, buy a GOOD cup, not the cheap ones, if
@ct9908 you get hit in it, you will thank me, the nicer ones distribute the force better, the cheaper ones the cup will just pinch your balls and you;ll be out of the game, trust me on this. But most of all, have fun!
@ct9908 also, practice handling the ball with your goalie stick, it's tricky, but if you get up real big in one game, go for the goalie run! Sure, if you lose the ball they get a goal your coach will scream at you, but if you're up by 10 or so, who cares? And if you actually get a goal or even a good assist it feels awesome, us goalies don't get to experience that too often. Also, practice clearing the ball with accuracy. You should be able to clear it to about the midfield line with spot on acc
@ct9908 uracy. Also, work out a signal with your best offensive man, and that signal means you're just gonna toss it up as far as you can (in front of their defense though) and he is to go for it. If you get that down it can let you get a quick goal here and there, but don't do it all the time, maybe once or twice a game
@ct9908 also, I keep thinking of more as I leave, find a throat guard that is comfortable. I had one from playing hockey goalie that I was used to, but it can be annoying if your team supplies you with one that's big and bulky and you ain't used to it
@ct9908 also, watch as many videos of college goalies as you can. Learn from their body positioning and try to emulate it. Never appear timid either, attackers will eat you alive then, when you're on a 1v1, if in doubt, attack them and cut off their angles. If you don't know about how the angles work and you don't have an older goalie, talk to your school's hockey goalie, he'll explain it

There is always Highs and lows being a goalie, But the highs, playing well denying, shutting down the your opponent is the biggest high I have ever experienced in any sport.

@ct9908 lose the elbow pads, sure, if you get hurt it hurts without them, but they hamper your mobility sooo much. Second, buy high top football cleats. they protect your ankles from the balls better, I cot nailed on a bouncer so hard one time I could barely stand, high top cleats help. Don't wear the leg pads or shin pads either. Sure, you're gonna get nailed, and it's gonna hurt, but all those extra pads slow you down. I was starting Varsity goalie for 3 years, and I wore helmet, chest protect

@ct9908 er, cup, gloves and helmet and that's it. My backup had the whole set-up, elbow pads, compression shorts with pads in them, shin guards, and that stuff while you won't walk away bruised, you;ll be slower. Got nailed on my thigh one time so hard the entire inside of my thigh was bruised for weeks, it was nasty looking. Hit so bad it didn't even hurt, it just went numb, but that's gonna happen. Second, take plenty of practice. Find the guy on your team with the best shot and practice with

@ct9908 him for hours. He got to have the best shot by practicing, so I'm sure he won't mind. Especially practice blocking bouncing shots. On turd they're easy to predict, but on grass those balls will bounce wickedly and in ways you can't predict, so get used to that. But that's really your best bet, just get out there and get net time. Even if you can't find anyone from the team to practice with you, just have someone throw the ball at the net. And also, buy a GOOD cup, not the cheap ones, if

@ct9908 also, practice handling the ball with your goalie stick, it's tricky, but if you get up real big in one game, go for the goalie run! Sure, if you lose the ball they get a goal your coach will scream at you, but if you're up by 10 or so, who cares? And if you actually get a goal or even a good assist it feels awesome, us goalies don't get to experience that too often. Also, practice clearing the ball with accuracy. You should be able to clear it to about the midfield line with spot on acc

@ct9908 uracy. Also, work out a signal with your best offensive man, and that signal means you're just gonna toss it up as far as you can (in front of their defense though) and he is to go for it. If you get that down it can let you get a quick goal here and there, but don't do it all the time, maybe once or twice a game

@ct9908 also, watch as many videos of college goalies as you can. Learn from their body positioning and try to emulate it. Never appear timid either, attackers will eat you alive then, when you're on a 1v1, if in doubt, attack them and cut off their angles. If you don't know about how the angles work and you don't have an older goalie, talk to your school's hockey goalie, he'll explain it
