There actually was a real break-in, in that block before this incident happened. I think that's why 3 police officers responded, which means that 2-3 squad cas responded to the sceane, and not the usual one on patrol.

But, he was hasseling the officers. Everyone at the sceane, including the neighber, who cared enough about him and his property to report a probable break-in, agrees that he was trying to start a fight with the cops. I think he's just another rich snob from a Private University.

But, the police weren't really in the wrong. Belligerence is a civil offense, and they did have the right to arrest him for threatening officers. I'm not saying the system is fair, but Gates brought this upon himself, and has only himself to blame. But, alot of crazy and unfair things really do happen with our laws. Gates was in a situation, not unlike the person, who attempted to escape jail, fails, and then in the actual trial, he's found innocent; but, then has to be tried again for booking.
