  • Even though I love Saabs, at $45K to $50K that Saab was charging beforehand, the 9-5 isn't good enough. At $50K you can get a 5-series/A6/E-class for that money. Not something built upon a GM platform using old GM engines. Pure style and personality cannot overcome the beautiful A6 interior, and the E-classes side impact crash tests.

But at the $30K-$33k that the 9-5 is going for now,..it's the steal of the year. If the 9-5 cost that much from new, Saab would still be in business right now.

  • This is a really cool and good looking car - so sad they're bankrupt. :(

  • I had a 1989 SAAB made by SAAB Auto and I have a 2001 SAAB made by GM. In my opinion GM basically junked the car up. The '89 would have lasted forever, the '01 costs me $1000 every other month. Still, the turn radius beats out a BMW or AUDI every time, and that makes my car a lot of fun to drive. I hope the company that buys SAAB loves the brand's uniqueness and invests to keep it competitive.

  • DId anyone else notice the he said it rode nice at and then in the same sentence said it was jittery? I think someone is got caught up in a lie...

  • Wow! Lots of the nit-picks sound like 'cut and paste' from the 9-4 X review.

BTW, why not mention the incredible safety features / durability associated with Saab?

Enjoy your cr@ppy gm or chrysler.

  • Maybe test one with a real engine, I would love to see you try and complain like this at the XWD model.

  • Stop nitpicking on every damn thing in this car !! its great and you get more than what you pay for. I'm pretty sure if this thing only had a bmw or a volvo badge he would be praising it and saying it's a phenomenal machine.

  • I swear, consumer reports complains more about cars than anyone else.

  • FUCK GM!! WHY DID BEAUTIFUL SWEDEN SELL GM THEIR PRIDE FOR MANY YEARS!!!!!

  • GM simply fucked SAAB over

  • @92CamryLE GM fucked EVERYTHING over tho bro. They fucked Oldsmobile, fucked Pontiac, fucked Saturn, Hummer (although they needed to go I think), and now SAAB too. That's 5 BRANDS COMPLETELY GONE in less than 10 YEARS! To put that into perspective, Chrysler has gotten rid of 2 brands in the last 10-15 years, Eagle and Plymouth. Ford has only gotten rid of 1, Mercury after last year. GM COMPLETELY blew it wit their cars. And even tho their new cars are better, they still got a long way to go.

  • Too bad SAAB is dead. This is a REALLY handsome car.

  • now I know why this company went bankrupt they make a piece of crappy cars

  • i really wanted this car to be good...it is so beautiful.... and yet... so crappy....

  • If you tried turning the car off by pressing the "Night Panel" button, when it clearly reads "night panel" and not "engine start/stop", then you are clearly a retard! Saab has had their ignition key/buttons near or below the transmission shifter for as long as I can remember Saab existing!

  • "There's no rear view camera"

You deserve to hit something if you can't properly park. Alot of bullshit from this guy who understands nothing about Saab.

  • SAAB is officially bankrupt. :'(

  • Wont have to worry SAAB is done thank you GM.. They made it official because GM was scared that some of its technology, still found in Saab cars, would land in the laps of these Chinese investors. GM sucks..

  • BEAUTIFUL! However, also way over priced! The sticker needs to be about 10K-12K less and the negotiated sell price should end up around 33K-36K on the top of the line model. The only way Saab can begin to sell more cars here in the USA is by being more competitive in terms of price and by advertising more. They need to stop trying to compete with the likes of Audi, Cadillac and Volvo and market themselves as an alternative option to Jeep, GM, Ford and Chevrolet.

  • NIGHT PANEL = NIGHT PANEL

    START/STOP = START/STOP

    How difficult is that? MORON!

  • you care way too much about the pricepoint

  • saab. what a piece of shit.

  • A company shouldn't run on subsidies. Let the damn thing go bankrupt.

  • SAAB is a lousy automobile. Poor resale value, abysmal relibility, and looks that make a Geo Metro look sexy. Of all their fanboys, how many bought them brand new? For 46K stick with BMW, Lexus or Mercedes, if you want a luxury FWD buy an Acura.

  • SAAB and CU have never mixed. I don't think CU is capable of producing an unbiased report. They should hire it out to AW or C&D who have real automotive experts.

  • sorry not every car is made for u

  • So he complains about too much noise, then he says the engine isn't powerful and loud sounding enough? Then he goes as far as saying that the console mounted ignition is annoying? That's Saab tradition.. He seems like he wants Saab to be like the other brands, which is isn't. It's diversity is what makes itself a Saab, and this review is straying from that idea. For autos, Consumer Reports is biased towards Asian brands. Go look at Toyota's marks vs. Chevy etc. for proof.

  • The fate of Saab will be decided on Oct. 28, 2011, when a Swedish trial court will decide whether to liquidate or proceed with restructuring efforts. My bet: Saab won't be around to celebrate New Year's.

  • @LexusLawyer Did you hear? Saab got bought by PDYM yesterday! It's going to stay in Sweden as well!

  • i wonder who hired this guy and people get bad reviews from this guy from all his other reviews. i think the only car he is expected from this car or another car is a Cadillac Escalade or some huge saggy big SUV. no offense

  • The 9-5 was recently named car of the year in singapore and it has been praised from all over the world for its impressive handling and design (how can you review a luxury sedan without even talking about the design?), not not mention the top safety pick award that the 9-5 received by the IIHS and this guy says that a buick is nicer?!? Apperently not nice enought even to be sold in europe.. This review was a freaking joke!

  • GM ruined this car brand for sure. SAAB might not make it if they don't do stuff fast just like Mitsubishi and or Suzuki fading car brands.

  • @soyntgo4it You forget GM is also responsible for ruining Suzuki America (Verona and Forenza were GM-Daewoos with poor MPG and WEAK engines) and Isuzu. GM is just a shit company that needs to go out of business.

  • If you yelling about badge engineering yeah it's a saab and not a copycat car yet and it is world wide like GM saab in USA region saab in EU and BWA HQ saab by china for asia even japanese also like saab and I have a 2000 95 so This is saab Unique and very rigid car too thanks

  • Well, consumer Reports, is supposed to protect the GM, so its their agenda to say anything bad about car. Buick vs Saab? in another world, maybe

  • well its saab n i know most ppl some how dont like it but who like they love this car.i felt its media too against saab brand some how they only prefer BMW,Audi volvo

  • saab knows how to style their cars but do they really expect people to pay for an overpriced GM?

  • @TheBadBuffalo While I even as a SAAB fan will be the first to tell you yes they do need to lower their price some, BUT have you seen dealer incentives for SAABs you pay the same if not less than the comparable GM platform mate, go drive one of the new SAABs be it a 9-5 or like I drive a 9-3 and then compare it to their GM platform mates you'd never know they're related. SAABs aren't a car thats all about the name, or the interior its purely about safety and driving characteristics.

  • the 2010-present Saab 9-5 is assembled in

    Trollhättan, Sweden

  • Why would anyone buy a Saab over a Audi BMW Lexus and Mercedes Benz it does not make any sense Saab is a joke a big rip off that car brand is not going to last very long if you have to buy a sweden car buy Volvo Saab is a not a good buy.Saab is only good at making planes.put that car up to rivals and I bet it would come dead last.

  • THis guy obviously doesnt like saab. Let someone who likes saab talk about it and he would talk about all the cool feautures you find in a saab and what extenguishes the saab from a bmw or audi. But this guy is just wanting to pik on saab.. I love saab and i love my saab car. He could stick to hes buick grandma cars.. i stick to different ...

    GO SAAB

  • This reporter is an idiot ! This Saab is a great car and I can know because I drive one !

  • I do not agree with this review. We just leased a 95 sedan. It is a great car at a great pricepoint. We had several incentive options available to us which made the care a much better value than the competition. Can the reviewer be any more winey? I found many of his comments overcritical and borderline untrue especially the ride quality, engine power, and quietness of the cabin. This is a great car. Drive one and you will see.

  • Why are button locations and size always such an issue? After you've owned a car for a short while, finding them without difficulty, usually without even looking becomes second nature.

  • I can't believe he's comparing it to Buick, I'd rather drive a reliant robin than a Buick. Not to mention he said nothing about its superb safety design of the car. Most saab drivers like to hear their engine rev a little bit with its turbo.

This guy needs to rethink his career.

  • Interesting that most other publications found the Saab 9-5 to be a very quiet car . I suppose that Saab removed the sound insulation before handing the car to CR. The comparison to the Buick being nicer is quite hilarious. Not even the germans who designed the Buick Regal would dare saying that LOL. Not a word on the fact that the Saab is super safe. Looks like the CR guy was having a bad day.

  • This must be the worst reviewer, that I've seen in the past 46 years! :-o

  • Complains about rear toe room without mentioning that it has more than 2 inches more rear leg room than all cars in its class? Wow! Must have big toes or he's simply anti-Saab.

  • Putting the button in the centre is ergonomic, whats the first thing u do when you started your car? You put in a gear, release handbrake etc.

Also, backup camera is for loosers, theres a parking system with sensors, but the next year model 9-5 offers a backup camera.

  • Having an idiot like this man review a car, a Saab at that, is the real insult. It's Saab tradition to have the ignition in the center console, just like the night panel button; deal with it. Bumps = hard hits? Like hell. The 9-5 is technically a Sports Sedan, don't expect the suspension to be as gentle as a cloud to your apparently frail, 80 year old body. Do some research before you review a car. Sad part is, people will believe this and other reviews from this incredibly stupid publication.

  • Wouldn't it be easier just to say "We didn't like this car" ?

  • This vehicle is easily the worst car in its segment and is out-classed by all of its rivals...leaves me thinking "We waited 10 years...for THIS?!"

  • I wish people that commented on these videos actually knew anything about cars. Because if they knew anything about cars, they would know that Saab is owned by Spyker now. Not GM. That is probably why this new 9-5 carries a pretty hefty price tag.

  • i think what happened here is this guy never drove a saab before and the conclusion to this theory,Jason Castriota explained in a video about the pheonix.he claimed saabs arent for every one and the way i see this saab it looks done like a saab should be done the only way ill have an actual oppinion on this one is if i drove it myself a part also whaere he is wrong the 9-5 came out in the 60s long before general showed up in the picture it gives me clarity that this video is inaccurate

  • Interlaced video makes me sad :(

  • I'd rather own a new Hyundai before I would buy a Saab.

  • This still has GM derived components, it was designed under the GM ownership. It looks great but needs to go back to Swedish high quality of yore.

  • If you turn on the car with the start stop button, does it not make sense to turn it back off with the same button? Honestly that remark about the location of the button was just an excuse for a complaint. Honestly if you get into a European car do you really complain about the indicator stalks being on the opposite side? No because that's a European characteristic, just like the centre mounted start stop button is a Saab one and has been for decades, but with key

  • All he does us say how horrible the car is. Didn't mention the legroom in the back (to which he gas plenty space of.) or fit and finish (to which looked really good). But when if comes to Toyota all he does is say the little good things it has.

  • This car looks really good in person but Volvo makes better cars. Although, I dig the panoramic roof and the cool trip computer. Along with the quirky design.

  • This guy is very naggy!

  • Excellent review sir.

  • that grille is ugly i like the 900s more

  • so basically, this guy hates this car

  • @blueorangelettuce - It isn't about what I think as the person on camera. It is what Consumer Reports thinks after our extensive testing. And, overall, the Saab pales in comparison to other upscale sports sedans. And if you're trying to say that I hate cars, you are sorely mistaken.

  • looks good but overpriced

  • Saab always had the key ignition on the center panel behind the stick. Can't stop tradition.

  • Comment removed

  • If u turned the car on from the center console thats where u turn it off not the night panel (its just tradition for it to be in the center console)

  • @oldschool1 id rather have a key than a lame button

  • what's insulting is that you need a back up camera to park, that's pathetic at this time in life

  • @pablodiaz9133 especially when his job deals with cars

  • Did you guys REALLY expect anything different by General Mistakes?!!

  • @landyachtfan79 general mistakes? you mean general motors?

  • @landyachtfan79 you do know that Saab is owned by Spyker now?

  • @yertv98 Actually Victor Muller sold his sports car division and now the new parent company name is Swedish Cars AB. How ever you look at it, the brand is ailing and is stuggling desperately for money. I don't think they'll be around very long. :(

  • @landyachtfan79 Exactly, Just alot of cost cutting with ugly styling.

  • @landyachtfan79 Government Motors aka GM

  • @landyachtfan79 except its not GM anymore...

  • @landyachtfan79 or you could call it Government Motors
