  • i know how he feels. i couldnt hold onto my family no matter how hard i tried. they look like good strong hands

  • This Rock Biter sucked balls. I alway preferred the one from "NeverEnding Story III". He was much better developed, designed and generally a load more fun, especially when he sings "Born to Be Wild" and stuff. THIS first Rock Biter was just depressing and droning and stupid - plus he looks much more real in the third movie.

Before you all kill me please note that I am, of course, kidding.

My god, I've just realised it hurts to even joke about it.

  • Ah a time when film makers had imagination and used puppets and stop motion over CG

  • Good GOD! I feel so sorry for this guy!

Not only is he the last of his kind in this film, not only did he lose his friends, but he was also too late to get away from the Nothing!!

This by far my favourite character through out the ENTIRE film!!

  • This is so awesome. i forgot how great the Rock Eater dude was. I'm going also be that nerd that says you don't get as connected to a CG character like you do something real and physical like that. Fantastic.

  • This is the same guy who sang while riding on a motorcycle in Neverending Story 3?!

  • @SomeFluffer64 ...Never mention that "Movie" again...ever...

  • It's not every movie that can make you feel really sad for a rock

  • Just watching this scene- how did they f*** up 2&3 so badly?

  • ill shit my pants if i saw this in my dream

  • as a kid I allways used to think atreyu's head was the rock biters dick, hahahahah

  • At 1:53, I love how he repeats saying the line "they look like good strong hands..." while the music changes tone. It clears all of the mystery that I saw in that character. That line in the end just made me believe that this is a great and powerful character that is the Rock Biter.

  • Why to go kid the rock guy lost just friends because you can't stop nothing!

  • This is my favourite scene. Not just my favourite scene in TNES; my favourite scene in any movie ever.

  • I forgot how depressing this movie was! Now i'm afraid of watching the horse sinking in the swamps of sadness scene!

  • that is how I feel now :,~(

  • *hugs Rockbiter*

  • screw the 2nd and 3rd this is the only neverending story and this is one of the many scenes that make me cry

  • If a guy dressed as a big rock dude and animatronics can move you tears, they must be doing something right.

  • The scene that made me want to tell stories.

  • you'lll get caught up in the... rock biter! rock biter!! rock biter!!!

    CROSSFIREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • damn i love this scene- the movie is one of the few "kids" films i remember to be so dramatic

  • @MrDFD25 ... Every Disney and Pixar movie ever made?

  • @ichater i meant from when i was a kid! there was a gap pf many years and now the films are good again

  • @MrDFD25 mmm I missed 4 or 5 pixar films while I was in high school and too cynical to watch

  • Is this a remake? I thought Jonathan Brandis played in this? Or was that Part II?

  • @MrHossCartwright

That was part 2. But forgwet that was ever made. This is the first and is SO much better.

  • This movie has the most saddness, hope, and magic of any movie ever made. It could move me to tears and laughter as a small child and is just as affecting today.

  • One of several amazing and profound scenes in that movie.

  • Mmmmm..... Good Rocks.... Flavorful

  • Get your motor running

    Head out on the highway

    Looking for adventure

    In whatever comes our way

  • @Pikazilla i will eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti!

  • @Stevie2Sxc i thought you would just jump the shark

  • @Pikazilla

Naw, you didn't jump the shark.

    You jumped the shark,

    came back,

    shot it in the balls,

    raped it,

    ate its flesh,

    consumed its soul,

    mounted it on the wall,

ANNNNNNND DID THE SAME THING TO 12 MORE FUCKING SHARKS JUST TO BE SAFE!

  • @ktownshutdown21 Nostalgia Critic FTW

  • @Pikazilla DONT

dont quote that turd on a video of this masterpiece

  • @1998sara can i say bat credit card?

  • @Pikazilla yup

    LOL

  • This made me cry like an idiot as a kid. Thanks for posting!

  • great movie though it doesn't teach anything about the concept and reality of death seeing as how all the characters that die come back to life at the end

  • I think I felt a tear

  • 3 people don't think they're big strong hands

  • you know what's sad? The fact that no children's film on earth would have the guts to try this today. Heck, most adult films wouldn't be able to pull this off so well.

  • @bookeater *coughcoughPixarcough*

  • @DulBeat True, but I think of them as the exception that proves the rule. In today's film world they are in the minority of film makers who care about their craft, but they do act as an inspiration to others.

  • lmao the rock biter sings in the third one!

  • @StuntStadium that monstrosity is not to bel talked of.....ever

  • im crying tears of rocks....SOB SOB SOB

  • Grüße Fräulein, Sturm-Verbot-Führer, WITH HIM IT OBTAINS aforesaid that' filled; S because don' Kiss T with people' great grandpapa of S

  • gets me every single time!!

  • @jakeshriker

Do you know the name of this music? It's so good

  • This scene is in competition with the Swamp of Sadness scene for SADDEST THING EVER. I have horse-loving friends who constantly weep for Artex -- but for me, this scene is the worst. The Rockbiter is usually such a cheerful fellow. And here he is, at the utter depths of despair and disappointment in oneself. God.

  • @slut4berniesanders Yeah, really. For such a good- natured guy as Rockbiter to completely succumb to despair here is too much, and really shows how bad things had become. But, that then makes seeing him and his friends (The three of them together could make a good spinoff movie) restored in the very end that much more joyous.

  • He kind of scared me as a kid... of course as a kid all I heard from him was "Blah, blah, blah, I'm a huge rock-eating rock man." Now that I appreciate how deep he is, he's like my favorite.

  • One of the saddest and strongest dialogues conveyed in just a few words...

  • The nothing reminds me of omniscience.

Once you come to truth there is no such things as hope or imagination.

  • This part was so sad ='(

  • Thye look like Larry King's shoulders, don't they.

  • Whats sad about this scene exactly?

  • @Neofcon

He always thought he was a strong person. But when it came to the crunch even his strength couldn't save the thing that mattered the most to him. He failed.

That and the sheer despair in the scene. He failed and now he's just waiting for the end because without his strength, what does he have left?

  • @Neofcon You sir have just made me quote The Never ending Story 2 "I wish, for you to have a heart!" come on how can you be so cold.

  • @Antichrist2000 I cried on Bicentennial Man

But really, you quoted THAT piece of shit sequel?

  • @Neofcon My fingers were burning as I did heh.

  • Forget the sequels........they werent directed by Wolfgang Peterson........there is only one Neverending Story, and thats this one.

  • @Neofcon You might want to watch the movie before asking a question so sarcastically.

  • wow i thought i would never get emotional over a freakin talking rock

  • It's weird to think that we went from this emotional scene with Rock Biter in the original to something as phenominally awful as the 3rd film and the pointless scene of him on his bike singing. But this film is amazing!

  • Dem hands weak as sh**

  • @skillzgone2waste

    actually lold

  • What is the rock called?

  • @Mezzergb just...Rock biter

  • SO SAD!

  • Does anybody have a link to the soundtrack of this scene?

  • the rock biter needs to get laid

  • @zombie161 Apparently, he does because in the second movie he has a son.

  • rock biter is such a pot head

  • Portrait of ultimate defeat

  • Thid movie will drive you to razors I swear!

Every 5 minutes it just gets worss and worss.. I would probably still cry if I watched it all again.

Still one of my favorite movies.

    Oh Child hood memories

  • They looked like strong hands.

  • @TNTeagan Yes, but nothing is stronger than one's desire to save those they love.

  • In the book, this scene has the rockbiter crying over how he lost his wife and child to the nothing iirc... but it's still a great scene, even with the change. Everyone who is human has felt like this.

  • Comment removed

  • Its a bit like the story of King Kamut..............he couldnt stop the tide coming in and the Rockbiter couldnt stop the nothing..............even with his big strong hands.

  • This is one of my favorite scenes from any movie. It's such a beautiful portrayal of the purest kind of sadness. I cry every time I see it.

  • Stratovarious sang a good song based off never ending story

  • Always loved the Rock Biter scene! They are good and strong... hands...!! :):)

  • my favorite character in the movie

  • freaking awsome!

''they look like big strong hands....dont they?''

    well said stegaflaps

  • "They look like big strong hands.......dont they?" One of the best monologues in film history. To see such a huge powerful creature bereft of hope.............it makes you think.........if the rockbiter cant stop the nothing..............who can?

  • No matter how big your hands, if you let the nothing take you... it will take you.

  • godzilla can stop it

  • The nothing? How?

  • sorry i meant to say chuck norris

  • @stegaflaps Agreed. For a children's film, it is amazingly deep. This is an incredibly moving scene.

  • @stegaflaps One Of The Best Monologues In Film History Definitely, What An Amazing Scene...!

  • @stegaflaps

    Maybe more ellipses.

  • @stegaflaps So, so sad. :(

  • @stegaflaps why does everyone miss out "good" when quoting this?? its plain to hear

  • @stegaflaps Chuck Norris.

  • Rock biter is the most scary thing i've ever seen o.O

  • Rock biter: We are under attack and being chased Gremlin: by what? Rokcbiter: Nothing Gremlin: so theres nothing to worry about RockBiter: no it is Somthing to worry about! Gremlin: What is? Rockbiter: Nothing Gremlin: But I thought you said it was somthing Rockbiter: It is somthing, the somthing is nothing Gremlin: Nothing? Rockbiter: Nothing! Gremlin: so theres nothing to worry about Rockbiter: YES! Gremlin: o.O?
  • lol, i get it

  • LOL! Abbott and Costello eat your heart out!

  • @gmoddraco well whos one first?

  • i wish i had the instrumental to this scene. its so sad and beautiful!

    xx

  • That kid has to have some nads of steel because I would crap some serious brix if it turned out the a rock I was leaning on was this 50 story tall rock monster.

PS, another inconsistency I didn't notice when I first saw this: How in the hell can you fail at defeating nothing?

  • He failed at defeating "THE nothing". Huge difference.

  • "The Rock biter"

  • It's a scene from an old family movie called "the never ending story" That kids name is atreiou. He would be used to that kind of shit. Hes seen it all. At one point in the movie there is a giant swamp tortus named Marla. And theres a Big dragon that i cant remember the name of.

  • Falcor the Luck Dragon

  • amazingly dramatic

  • I was feeling tears in my eyes...no, wait, they're still there! man, this is so sad!! Atreyu is still so awesome; poor boy! He feels like the whole of Fantasia is ion his shoulders...and it is! T.T

  • lol this vid is in the News and Politics category?

  • such a stoner movie

  • I know it's odd, but I've always wondered how Rock Biters reproduce. Is it asexual? Like, do they poop out baby rocks? Or is there a female rock biter out there?

  • Er........this is Fantasia! If you want logic you go to earth.

  • Atreyu looks so worried. boo hoo! He sounds worried and sad too!

  • "The nighthob,Even the stupid bat."

    LOL!

    I Love this Movie!

But this part is also kinda sad, too.

  • rockbiter*

  • rocbiter is so cute

  • This part always got to me. I felt so sorry for the Rock Biter.

  • "They look like good, strong hands, don't they?"

    Very sad. :(

  • Love it! 5*

  • Obviously, these filmmakers just copied Treebeard from the Lord of the Rings films. :)

  • this movie is much much older

  • I didn't even realize people were giving me thumbs down until I returned just now. It was just a joke.

  • aww lol...dont worry bout it...some people dont have humor, like me! ( this movie is my favorite since i was a little kid..:P :)

  • dragynslare, 90% of people on youtube have never heard of the concept of humor. so you shouldn't waste your time trying to make witty comments because very few people will appreciate it.

  • What, are you 12? I'll agree that some humor doesn't play well in writing when you can't hear the tone. Anyway, I still find it funny that Rockbiter acts so much like Treebeard 20 years before the Jackson films - in a film that mentions LOTR, too!

  • what are you a jerk? i'm 27 and i was on your side about yr 1st comment. my comment didn't play well in writing? though i thought your comment was obviously in jest and my comment was CLEARLY attesting to that fact

by the way you are also dead on about tree beard although maybe the similarities are because peter jackson was influenced by neverending story... which was obviously influenced by LotR the book.

now you got me thinking dragyn... who is copying who? :) <-to clarify my comment lol

  • @kindkayne:

    >peter jackson was influenced by neverending story... which was obviously influenced by LotR the book.

*facepalm* The movie is an adaption of the first half of Michael Ende's book of the same name. LotR is completely unrelated.

  • 90% of he people on youtube are also fucking retarded, so it's entirely conceivable that the comment was serious.

  • good point.. i never thought of it that way, blackson

  • Love it more!

  • love it

  • This is truly one of the most moving scenes in movie history. No doubt about it.

I just wish someone could tell me who did the voice of the Rock Biter.

  • yeah i would like to know too

  • I think it was the guy who does cookie monster from sesame street.

  • welp:(

  • This is the best part of the movie. So moving and sad, makes me want to cry!

  • ¯\(º_o)/¯

  • Watching it again recently I thought the 'good strong hands' monologue was really good, similar to roy's 'tears in rain' at the end of bladerunner, and lo and behold you've uploaded that exact bit ^^ thanks

  • Wow! I agree about both... "Big Strong hands" and "tears in rain" are my favorite monologues in Movie history, well... Except for "F***ed up girl" monologue in Eternal Sunshine. I need to find that clip too...

  • Movies like this aren't made anymore.Still brings tears to my eyes.

  • I love the scene after this with the wolf; that stuff about the reason why Fantasia is dying is so artistic and I have to say it again deeeep! Fantasia is dying because mankind's dreams are dying. Gorgeously deeep!!

  • I had a bad day, this cheered me up. =) thanks...

  • thank you so much for this, thank you. thank you thank you thank you.

  • These are REAL kids movies. They aren't unwatchable once you reach 10, or just full of slapstick humour. They're the ones that make you think, even as an adult.

  • Who scored this film? it's stunning, once you discover this is a german film it becomes obvious, it's so wagnerian and deep and romantic. Yummmy, yummy, yummy.

  • Ennio Morricone, an excellent director.

  • I think you mean Wolfgang Peterson, that's who directed this fabulious piece of cinema. Sorry to be unhip but I prefer this to Das Boot.

  • It was Giorgio Moroder

  • Man this part made me so sad when I was a kid.

  • They look like such strong hands, don't they?

God, that gets me every time. Thanks for posting this, excellent scene.

  • Thank you so much for posting this scene...I specifically searched for it on YouTube, because it is such a powerful part of the film. Very sad, and very moving. Thanks again...and I hope you're feeling better too!

  • Hope you're feeling a little better now buddy. This is a pretty miserable way to feel. Poor RockBiter, he's taken away by the nothing.
