  • UNA DE LAS MEJORES CARRERAS JAMAS VISTAS PD AL MEJOR CAZADOR SE LE VA LA LIEBRE PD2 DIOS NO QUISO DARLE EN ESE MOMENTO A PAPIS LA CARRERA MAS SIN EMBARGO LE LLEGO SU MOMENTO FELICIDADES

  • Papis must have felt hard done by

  • Montoya should of stayed in Indy cars. He certainly did better there than he's done in NASCAR

  • Damn!!!! These were the days

  • wow these things are unbeliveably unsafe lol

  • I still think Montoya's last lap where he gained about a second in the last couple turns is hilarious. I don't know why.

And I never would have guessed at this point that Tony Kanaan would eventually become a superstar. I guess I should have seen it when he blew Zanardi out of the water at Mo Nunn in 2001.

  • @arenasnow I remember the post race from that day. Montoya made up so much ground on Kanaan b/c Kanaan let off. He saw Papis slow and thought there was an accident or something ahead. Montoya went for broke and tried to get Kanaan.

  • Just listen at 3:26 how the engine starts to die.

  • UN-FUCKING-REAL.

see it in live when i'm 11 old in Canal + (French TV). now i'm going to 22 and i have the same surprise and same words! Thanks Champcar for this. (poster and racing series! :-p)

  • The most beaty race caras ever

  • AWESOME!!!!

I'm getting reday to order my tickets for Kansas Speedway and Indianapolis next year!!!

  • Classic race, but I always thought it was weird that Paul Page was saying "Is Max Papis going to win? It sure looks that way." when he was clearly slowing due to being out of fuel...

  • another classic race at Michigan

  • i always loved the Rahal/Papis miller lite livery. that deep blue and silver looked fantastic on that car. i know liveries arent that important but that was a great looking car.

  • @v10mclaren i know what you mean, i always loved the ganassi and the black newman hass, iconic really, such a beautiful looking field!

  • theses cart races were awsome

  • i prefer ben edwards' commentary in this race! he went mental when papis slowed down!

  • can eveyrone quit complai9ng about cart/irl/champ car vs nascar??? CART had better finished at michigan than any other racing league PERIOD. i was at this race. in the infield. in turn 3. right where max went out of gas.

  • indyfan22k its nascar. Get it right. Max deserved better than that. That right there sucks. Running out of gas one straight away from the finish. Max is racing some where right now i now that. And he does race NASCAR ever now and then. And i'm right i checked, so if any one thinks i'm wrong i'll prove it.

  • that would be cool. good post champcar4ever

  • Well, I missed those Reynards, Lolas, Penskes and also those turbochargers. :( Wish we had a time machine.

  • Sure it's had it's problems, but it is a brand new car.

It would still completely destroy an Indycar. Indycars are way too heavy and outdated and are not meant for road/street courses at all.

  • I still remember that race and I still feel sorry about Max Papis. This race was great just like 2000 Michigan 500!!

  • thats what i dont like bout champcar they dont race on ovals most of them on streetcourses few are true road courses bring back ovals!!

  • I don't understand why many people complain about racing circuits or street courses when true driver skill manifests itself on this sort of tracks compared to ovals. This is why US Racing series (IRL,Champ and NASCAR)never attains worldwide popularity much like F1 does because running circles 90 times is just too boring.

  • Oval racing is a totaly different skill than road courses...it is just another challenge for the driver.

What is wrong with 6 of 16 courses to be ovals? (i.e. 1993 when it was popular all over)

Also people complain because it used to have 4 types of racing (Street, Road, Short Oval and Superspeedway), now of which they only race on 2. Diversity in tracks is good.

I don't understand why people dispise ovals so much...with its close racing, high speeds, and different skill set.

  • It's probably because they can't stand cars going around in circles turning left all the time. And yea, it's more than that. MUCH more.

  • It's sad not seeing more ovals at Champ Car, it's getting more and more as the "Formula 1 America" with a "Schumi" called Paul Tracy and an "Alonso" named AJ Allmendiger.

Oh well, now with Montoya in NASCAR a lot of ovals again here in Colombia :P

  • Geez, I miss Champ Cars on superspeedways. I don't understand why Milwaukee is the only oval on the Champ Car schedule.

  • It's a shame they never raced at MIS again...

    Here's the reason:

Champcar is promoting too many and unecessary street-courses. Which I believe is borish and definitely not traditional for fans. Next year CCWS will be all road-racing and not an oval to spare. All road racing without the ovals is crap, (<in my opinion). They definitely need a merger with the crapwagons to get back Michigan.

  • what a dramatic finish.. Michigan 500 was one of the highlight races of the old CART series.. racing was brilliant.. 2000 race was even better.. Montoya stealing win from Andretti at the death!

  • I'm with you on that; those are two great unexpected finishes in racing history.

  • Great track. Some of CC's best races.

  • I remember watching that race. No matter who you rooted for, you just had to feel for him. At least he had a fine season that year and got his first the next season.
