  • One of my favorite parts!

    Lucid dreaming is awesome!

  • Muito bom...

  • Movie made by philosophical drug users, for philosophical drug users.

  • @RossetaStoned91 ? Why drug users ? Its a film for dreamer .. and if u arent a dreamer u are death

  • @BloodyBarbier Drugs are a catalyst and tool to reach higher levels of thinking in order for humans to come to some of the conclusions (or atleast fathom) made in the movie, when used properly, in my opinion. Plus the visuals? It's a full package while on a psychoactive drug.

  • @RossetaStoned91 I think its possible to reach this higher level without drugs :/

  • @BloodyBarbier Oh I do too. I think drugs are good for that first leap though.

  • @RossetaStoned91 Its important that '' the drug '' Isnt a other world to be happy and live in there .. Its a moment where u can think better ... maybe about the things which gone wrong in the past ... Sorry my grammar isnt the best i am from germany .. many people use drugs because they're frustrated ..

  • @BloodyBarbier Yeah I knew a friend who used drugs like that. The worst part is he's in denial. I usually just use them to re-focus myself when I forget about the magick and wonder of the world, if that makes sense lol

  • @RossetaStoned91:) Uh a active youtuber .. I think ill try a lucid dream today .. it will be my first time .. maybe u know something bout this ?

  • @BloodyBarbier Not really. I had what I would call my first true one a few weeks but it was only for a few seconds. I'm actually quite susceptible to being enwrapped in the world of dreaming as if it is reality, not being aware that I'm dreaming at all. That few seconds was very powerful though. I literally felt as if I was an entity in this new world, not just a projection of myself in an imaginary world. I woke up wondering how much difference between there is waking and dreamin

  • Drag the fingers over the strings hitting them more consecutively rather than simultaneously to obtain the almost arpeggio-like effect, intertwined also with the simultaneous strumming style, hitting all strings in one motion.

  • To any and all who have never seen Guy Forsyth play live, if you ever get the chance you must see him. It is a fantastic show.

Also check out his old band the Asylum Street Spankers who are a great band in their own right.

  • Watched this movie on shrooms... twice. So intense.

  • does anyone know what strumming technique that guy is using?

  • @nathanielnutter not sure what technique he's using, but when I play uke, I finger the chords with my penis, and strum with my balls.

  • Watched this is Psych class. Quite interesting.

  • these pretzels are making me thirsty.

  • @BigOldMrKnish munchies?

  • I actually have done that before, one of those shitty dreams about work. Never thought of it that way, but it makes since.

  • the trouble is that it's hard to understand what they're saying without context of the rest of the film, or without prior knowledge of the subject matter

  • i really need to learn this on guitar, so i can play it forever

  • that dude is creepy as hell

  • I can't find the movie in german!

    -

Ich kann den Film nicht in deutsch finden!

  • Who is the Uke player?

  • @radted411 Guy Forsythe

  • @radted411 guy forsyth

  • This scene influenced me to take up the ukulele haha

  • just watched this film yday on shrooms, and it was FUCKIN EPIC!!!!

  • @Kohdii open your mind to what? combining reality with the "infinite possibilities" of your dreams isn't as easy as it sounds.

  • So fucking relevant!

  • Great, now I need to look for Kohdii's comment.

  • Magnífico. Esse filme me move de um jeito inexplicável.

  • Scanner Darkly!

  • Best : D Love it!!!

  • Does anyone know any other film which contains the same kind of depth?

¿Alguien sabe alguna otra película que contiene el mismo tipo de fondo?

Finns det någon som vet någon liknande film med samma typ av djup i?

Est-ce que quelqu'un sait tout autre film qui contient le même genre de profondeur?

    Yes.. I'm bored.. :D

  • Comment removed

  • @PatrikLarssonRang all linklater's other projects..? like "scanner darkly" and "slacker"

  • @pachamama13 Thank's, but I've seen them. :)

  • @PatrikLarssonRang Enter the Void

  • The better 'thing' always maked.

  • I Had a Friend Once That Told Me The Greatest Mistake in Life Is To Think That YOu Are Alive When Really You're Asleep And Lifes Waiting For You ... The Trick Is To Combine Your Waking Rational Abilties With The Infinite Posiblities of Your Dreams Becasuse If YOu Can Do That You Can Do Anything...

  • cool!

  • @eatmealiveplease can you get benzos?

  • Everyone dreams.

Most don't remember it, cause most of it is meaningless drivel. Dreaming is where your brain organises memories... So If you don't learn anything super important and you're short term memory recall isn't the best (research Dream Journals) then of course you won't remember them.

    Everyone Dreams. Dream on.

  • @JetJockey87 "Dreaming is where your brain organizes memories."

This is a theory. Not a fact. Scientists still do not know why we dream. Scientists believed dreaming was the result of random electrical activity in the Brain during sleep, but they're still not sure.

  • I think 9 people don't want to come to terms with the fact that their daily lives might possibly be unequivocally meaningless.

  • i dont dream

  • I totally understand what this guy is saying. I work at Ihop as a dishwasher right, shit job by the way, and after a long day of work when I finally get home and close my eyes all I do is dream about washing motherfucking DISHES!

oh ya doesnt he look like the tall white guy off of human giant? especially with the overalls and the illusinators skits?

  • @brownstain3000 that is Guy Forsyth, he is a great Guitarist/Musician. Check out some of his stuff here on youtube. I particularly love his song "If I was Sick"

  • @1163527d

why? so people who speak another language can't enjoy it?

  • guys check this out, I think when we're asleep we're actually waking up, so in reality dreams are boring and almost like a prison, and when we get "tired" that's our bodies wanting to go back to our real world... but we can only be there for so long because they catch us and make us "fall back asleep". dope shit????!?

  • @skateNappreciate hell yes, love it dude. keep thinking, keep dreaming

  • @skateNappreciate Who cares , it's all just a dream anyways .

  • @skateNappreciate I wanna smoke what you got

  • @iansaidhi ill sell you an ounce for $230

  • 9 people made the mistake of thinking they are alive.

  • I think everyone should just enjoy the video, regardless of what you think of it. Enjoy life.

  • @Ubluntu HIPPY!!

  • @rdoncarlos What does a hippy equate to linguistically sir? Life as is can be construed endlessly, but it's best not to tie you Life to words and meanings that fall into a pit, a fleeting pit filling the unfulfilled, to cover our personal existential voids. So, as Ubluntu bluntly proposes: Life Enjoy

  • i wish i had someone to talk about this film with, it was amazing

  • @Kohdii "just as everyone else knows nothing" This is an oxford worth definitive quote for the term close minded. You literally made my day, COME ON THE HUMAN RACE YEAHHHHH.

  • anybody now how to play this on ukulele????? or track name or something?:D

  • @szllar yep

  • @MusicWavesMan

yeah, I guess you're right:D:D:D that guy in the video must know how to play that

  • @Kohdii You should read Hannah Arendt's The Human Condition. Specially her stuff on vita contemplativa &, less importantly, vita activa.

On a side note, whenever I read comments like this, I think to myself: Damn, this must be why Wittgenstein hated philosophy! Of course, it was actually a little more complex, but it's really all the same thing.

  • 90 minutes of people talking to a guy about philosophy. I love this movie.

  • 8 people have dad consciousness.

  • Fuckin A bro. I hate when I dream I'm at work.

  • @JCStanton117 I think he meant, you're more alive and awake in your dreams than when you're awake. Just the idea of going through the motions just to finally go to sleep and have awesome dreams makes it seem like your dreams are your life and everything else in between is just you sleeping

  • So i watched this movie while in a slight chemical imbalance and uhhh... My mind got raped.

  • @maamuff did you like it

  • @igg73 oh yeh i loved it ahaha

  • @maamuff YES!

  • why is everyone taking this movie so seriously, its interesting ddfinitely but do u choose to live ur life based on a movie someone else wrote or write ur own script. Stop hating on eachother for disagreements.. its a waste of time.

  • reality check

  • @Kohdii lol

  • thumbs up if /b/ brought you here

  • Wow... I am so flipping high right now.

  • @BlazingG54321 join the club

  • @Kohdii Open my mind?

I just said I didn't like the scene, I thought they didn't define their terms well, and CLOSED by saying "If you like it, great."

How is that closed minded? Because I don't agree with YOUR philosophy, I'm close-minded?

Your just flatly saying "Nope, you disagree, you're the kind of person who doesn't get any philosophy at all whatsoever because you dislike thise scene which I like which makes you an idiot," THAT sounds pretty closed-minded...and petty, actually.

  • Its under educated, pretentious adolescents like you, who possess not the slightest clue as to what the ideas and purpose of this movie allude to, and you fukin dumasses, instead of transcending your potent laziness and ultimate paralysis, choose to rather argue amongst yourselves about baseless futilities

    @obiwanobiwan13

  • @obiwanobiwan13 You expect art to define its terms?

  • @obiwanobiwan13 sorry are you mocking kohdii by over using philosophy. there is such a word as 'opinion' which would sound better in the way you're trying to use it. just because this can be seen as a 'philosophical' film doesn't mean you have to allude to it being philosophical by using the word.

  • However i think that's why this works so well because i definitely didn't like every scene and by jamming these clutter of thoughts together it shows itself to be a philosophical film, kind of smothering itself in this existential guise; like a gorilla beating it's chest, saying, 'look at me, this is what i am', but whatever.

  • catch my drift. mmmm.... drift everything just curves back into the feel of 'waking life' can't speak a word without it sinking back in this mess, blaah. Like 'Alice through the looking glass', but with no music or poems, no spritely words or uplifting thoughts just dooooooooooown (decrescendo).

  • Anyway, i assume you all have seen 'A Scanner Darkly' if your reading this, if not this is how you should proceed. Then check out 'The Virgin Suicides', not the same at all, but has this kind of Depressive, silently suffering angst to it... with narration.

  • there has to be a tab for this!

im ganna buy a ukulele just to learn this

  • Yeah...

    I call bullshit.

I'm sorry, but that's a rather random argument, going all over the place, into metaphysics and matters of ethical and sociological concern, and never ONCE does this character qualify his terms--far less even explain why he's GIVING this oh-so-random rant--and the premise itself...

Well, again, without terms qualified, it's bullshit or pretty-sounding-but-insubstatiative bullshit, take your pick.

If you like it, great...but if you do, tell me--why?

  • @obiwanobiwan13 The film is a colection of random dialogs as the main character stumbles about his dreams talking to people, each skit is short and suposed to provoke discution, the only realy conection between them is the kid that sat on the floor (main character) as he goes from person to person and slowly realizes he is trapped in a dream unable to awake.

  • @obiwanobiwan13 If you have had a lucid dream and understand the properties of the dream world and human consciousness, then you would understand what this guy is saying. It isnt relevant any properties of the physical world, or matter. He is talking about dream reality and how the brain knows no difference between the dream world and the real world unless YOU can tell yourself, "this is a dream" and then you CAN do anything.

  • "its bad enough you sell your waking life for minimum wage, but you get your dreams for free" WOW most beautiful and best qoute i think i've ever heard. Honestly this is one of the greatest most underrated movies of all time its so amazing, i love being smart and appreciating these things :D hehe.

  • I'm going to try and develop a mental sign that says "You're dreaming, DUMBASS!".

  • I don't know why, but whenever I feel bad, I put on this little clip here and suddenly...I just feel better

  • I Love this movie.

I made my own version called A Strange Road Trip .

See what you think (click my name)

    Thanks for posting

  • RoccoSturm..thanks for not being a lame douchebag like so many other users who give their video a misleading title like "Waking Life- blah blah" and then have you click on it only to find that they've put some lame song over the audio of the actual scene we clicked on to watch.. it's their lame-ass way of MAKING people listen to their favourite songs...by tricking them...even though they KNOW that if we wanted to listen to some shitty music we'd have SEARCHED for it... thanks :-)

  • Someone please tell me, what is kind of guitar is this?

  • @kingshapur

    it's not a guitar, it's a ukulele.

  • thx a lot ;)

  • WOOOORD

  • this movie sucks

    all they do is talk

  • @marsbarz fuckyoufuckyoufuckyoufuckyouthismovieisamazing

go watch Michael Gay if you just wanna fap to some 'splosions.

  • @marsbarz You just don't have a soul. Movies are just for action and all? Fuck that...

Either your just slow or really have no soul...

  • @aero2525

You think you have a soul? What are you made of?

  • @marsbarz At least I can say that everything I watch is with appreciation, not just mad hate. I'm made up of what I am. I'm sorry to judge you, but what you just said pissed me off with your nihilistic lifestyle.

  • @aero2525

Sorry, I can be a douchebag sometimes, I know. I'm just saying the... yeah I'm a douche. Anyway, forgive me! :/

  • @marsbarz you're tryna get ratings for your shit comment. do u feel embarrased ?

  • @marsbarz Now, if you only listened...

  • i saw this movie on a shroom trip. i wouldnt have it any other way

  • who is the guy with the ukulele?

  • does anyone know where i can watch the whole thing

  • @BarbieBiitch420 not sure if you found it already, but go to google and look up Waking Life avi

  • Comment removed

  • @BarbieBiitch420

they have it on google videos

  • So many people didn't understand that movie...

It is the best i've ever seen in that subjects.

  • You want to know the meaning pf life? Its christopher walken

  • you guys KNOW there is life after death...stop pretending to be cool in ur supposed lack of faith

  • @slackerethic its all guess work bro you cant make asertions that drastic as youve got no substanative proof to back them up

  • Stop arguing, guys.

  • changed the way i look at life altogether this movie is unrealistically real.

  • holy crap, so amazed right now. lol

  • do people do this frame by frame or is it an effect

  • @WowVideosbyVessel It was filmed with actors as live action and enhanced on the computer with the cartoony effect.

  • @mysocalledage What I mean is, is it enhanced by people that draw frame by frame or is it a pre-set effect in something like Adobe AfterEffcts or something

  • @WowVideosbyVessel I'm not sure the process although I know that the software they used is called Rotoshop, Based off of the technique called rotoscoping which the editors trace over images frame by frame. I am not sure if Rotoshop does some frames automatically through an effect or if it is still drawn frame by frame.

  • i must learn how to play that i would walkaround all day just talking and playing that

  • this was the exact clip i was looking for, i love his little tune plays and i wish to learn it

  • Inception

  • @FordGT8806 this is better please!

  • @roofdoubleflip no sir you suck.

  • @wkxp0ny How is it a worthless movie?? Because you dont understand it mabey!!? Mabey because you haven't relized that everything you experience or percieve... it an illusion. Mabey because you havent learned that we are all divine spiritual beings on an extroadinary human experience. Wake up. All this (life) isn't as REAL as you think it is and remember... its just a ride.

  • @youdevil6 if thats true then why dont you jump off a cliff and " Wake UP"

  • @trueChaos23 Why would I want to end this extroadinary illusion... I'm not ready to move on. I'm fine in this present moment. Are You??!!?!? I dont even understand what you mean by "why dont you just jump off a cliff and "Wake Up." Just another ignorant person passing through this life. Oh well. Love and Light.

  • @youdevil6 lol you hipsters always try to act like you know everything i would assume that you would so stupid as to take this life as an illusion your dumb :)

  • @trueChaos23 "Hipster." Ohhhh, thats a funny word. I dont even know what a hipster is man so I am definitly not one of those. LOL! I dont think I know alot at all my friend. Its just you havent woken up yet. Dont worry. You will. Mabey not in this life. But soon, my friend. You will. You will. Hope the best to you and your loved ones. Love and Light.

P.S - Life is an illusion. Consciousness is what creates our every moment and beyond. Without consciessness, nothing would exist.

  • @youdevil6 It's annoying how smug you are because you've grasped the concept that reality could be false, and now you feel superior over another and even have the balls to tell him to "wake up". Relatively, the most developed human mind is only a small step ahead of a rock in terms of self-awareness when you realize how infinite information is.

P.S if life's an illusion, it doesn't explain how a group of inanimate particles like atoms can give rise to something as intangible as an experience.

  • @odyssey888 First of all, you dont understand quantum physics and I'm not surprised why you dont understand and second of all, you copied "how can a group of inanimate particles like atoms give rise to something as intangible as an experience" right out of another video and I can answer that question for the guy who asked it in the video and for you. Atoms dont create an experience buddy. Consciousness does. LOL!

  • @youdevil6 please, could you post the link of the video that i "took" the quote out of? second, I'm almost positive you don't understand quantum physics either because you seem to be struggling with grammar. third, consciousness comes from chemical reactions in your brain, therefore it's a product of atoms. I thought this was obvious, but apparently not...

  • @odyssey888 Ahhhh, another ignorant person on this planet. Grammar has NOTHING to do with quantum physics you idiot!! Consciousness does NOT occur from chemical reactions in your brain!!! You can still be conscious without a brain or body!! Our chemicals in our brain alter out consciousness. This whole existence is a DRUG experience. WAKE UP! We are all on drugs, like it or not! If your not on a drug, well, you cant exist here. CONSCIOUSNESS DOES NOT DIE!

  • @youdevil6 hahahah ohhh i see you believe in life after death. There's absolutely no proof that consciousness continues after death. even if that were the case, where would the new consciousnesses come from? Do you think we reuse souls in reincarnation? The human race is getting larger and larger so new souls would be needed to be created. Where are they created from then? And grammar is an indication of intelligence, even if its unrelated to physics, which you no nothing about.

  • @odyssey888 I have a major in physics buddy and no I dont believe in life after death. There is NO such thing as death! Just because you dont remember your past lives is NOT my problem! You ask way too many questions. How about experincing leaving your body to visit different dimensions and planes and fgure what your past lives are and STOP relying on fuckin science and other peoples ideas. Stop looking outside for an answer! Look inside! All the answers are with you. You just cant see them.

  • @youdevil6 hahaha yes I'm sure you have all kinds of formal educational degrees, Mr. "trans-dimensional time traveler who likes to post things on youtube". Lay off the drugs.

  • @odyssey888 Its funny how ignorant people are now adays.

  • @youdevil6 yes, its always much easier to make a generalized comment like that then actually come back with a valid point, which proves my point that you have no idea what you're talking about

  • @odyssey888 PS I dont feel superior! LOL AGIAN!

  • @wkxp0ny Better be trolling, man...

  • Movie is shit.

  • @BexRanner You must be dumb then, this film is a masterpiece.

  • @Lozian

No, it isn't. it's pretentious hipster shit that fags enjoy because they think they're smarter for it and crack out that old gem "Well you just don't GET IT" when somebody calls this piece of ass film for what it is.

  • your too much of a shit head to think aren't you? i don't expect small minded people like you to understand art films, but you can at least call us something else than a bundle of sticks.

  • @jamesarthurrayl

God forbid a shirtless hipster strumming a ukulele isn't exactly the groundbreaking exhibition in philosophy you think it is. Maybe if *you're* able to cut out the wannabe existentialism for a minute, you'd probably realize what our wannabe Charlie Manson up here's oh-so brilliant insight amounts to is padding out "Believe to Achieve" for about a minute longer than it needs to be and rewording "Don't let the bastards grind you down" into a piss poor excuse for wise insight.

  • Why look at that, I just said everything Guy Forsyth did in far less time and didn't even need a shitty rotoscoped film to do it, either.

Maybe if you pull your head away from shit movies like Waking Life and what I'm sure you consider the HI-larious "I'm On A Boat!" video you have favorited you'd realize not everyone who dislikes "art" films is the knuckle dragging neanderthal you'd be so eager to generalize them as. They might just dislike shitty, pretentious hipster bullshit.

    You cigarette.

  • lol this movie is made for people who ride their bikes because it's "eco friendly" and people who wear scarves in summer time.

    In short, douche bags. Hipsters.

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed

    Oh, of course.

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed What's funny is that you've actually lulled yourself to believe that. Movies like these may attract pretentious hipsters and pseudo intellects, (and maybe I'm just naive) but there are many great philosophies to be found as well as explored here. You should think it over, if you dismissed this film because of a certain crowd it draws in.

  • @narutosgirl12x Well I absolutely I agree that one should find culture without worrying about who's in it, but I don't think I could've been any more open minded than the day I saw that movie, and I still didn't like it. In fact, I think it made it worse.

The philosophies, they don't mean anything, they're just speculations about reality that hold no actual merit. You've got great men like Einstein or Stephen Hawking who use hard evidence to support amazing discoveries, then you've got "Oh your

  • @narutosgirl12x head was cut off six minutes ago because we've HEARD that there may be brain activity six minutes after death, so this is all after your death."

When does any of that contribute to anything?

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed Maybe nothing, but not every philosophy contains some universal truth. I don't think they are meant to be seen as great revelations for society, but as food for thought. Different perspectives and ideas for the viewer to contemplate or speculate after the movie is over.

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed If I was sitting cross-legged on the floor listening to half-baked philosophy dribbling out of a dungarees-wearing-smug-beacon, I think I'd tried to jam that ukulele sideways down his . . . and make a run for it.

  • @sliceofsand lol amen. "I had a friend once who told me that the biggest mistake you can make in life is to think you're alive"

OOOOOOOO DEEP. Except it doesn't mean shit

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed

This movie wasn't aimed to be philosophical. It was simply an artistic twist by putting the underlying philosophical pinnings at the fore-front (script) & the daily doings at the back. It used the field of philosophy, along with science, commerce, literature, politics, & others, in order to fluctuate and orbit around the idea of dreams. The movie is meant to be about dreams and it beautifully transitions relevant philosophical topics to accentuate the idea it had of dreaming.

  • @BigVicTheBadSeed

The idea was never to be technically philosophical, had it been, I'm sure you'd be here raving on about how boring the movie was & how much artistic creativity it lacked. For someone who never understood the idea of Determinism, it may very well have changed their life. They may have hung strongly onto arbitrary & self-destructive values spoon-fed to them by their parents (e.g. religion) & have now freed themselves of those chains. A movie is no place for technical philosophy.
